joelmama.........To Funny ;D..........

You come on the NWC board to tell us Capital should be ranked #5? At 10-3 be happy your in the top 20! ;) ;)

Who Cares!

Tis the season and all but really!

And as DenSLA says, This comes from a kindler Wildcat!
Well two of the three losses came from the national chamption.  The last by three points.  They gave MUC a better game than the runner's up so I think NUmber 5 is EASY to justify.  Do I have to be from the West Coast to post here.  I don't see anyone asking you why you made so many posts to the OAC board.

Dee,

That's a good call because I'm at the point were I'm about to go through my 1998 Linfield/PLU game film and find clips of the D-Trian to post up.

So a team plays 3-4 top teams in the country, goes down in each one by 3 or less points. Great games, but still a goose egg. They go on to finish 6-4, are they top 10,or top 20 because they lost close games to good teams?

No to the hypothetical example, but the real-life team also beat the No. 12, No. 15 and No. 20 teams from the final regular-season poll on the road, which is definitely a factor.

hscoach,

I better reply to your post before you delete it!  ;)

Now, I asked you a question on the blog that you never responded to.  So, since you're spamming our board with a post you worked very hard on...I'll ask my question again:

Do you think there is there something to say about teams in your conference knowing your weakness/strengths/schemes better than teams outside of your region in a playoff format?

Could that translate into some of the success Capital had in playing MUC closer than some this post season?  Capital has had to opportunity to play Mount 3 times in the past 14 months and if you look at the scores you see Capital play Mount better in each contest:

10/2/2004: 49-7
10/1/2005: 42-24
12/3/2005: 34-31

Would that playoff game been as close if Dec 3rd 2005 was that was the first time Capital played Mount in years?  What would happen if Whitewater, SJU, or Linfield would play Mount 3 times in a 14 month span?

I mean, because the team that played Linfield toughest of all in 2004 (sans UMHB) was Whitworth (NWC).

Just because Whitworth played Linfield so close does that mean they were one of the elite teams in the country in 2004? Linfield beat Rowan 52-0 in the Semi's but I'm sure most people outside the NWC would say no way that Whitworth should be considered a top 5 team.

Another example is in 1999 when PLU won the Stagg. The Lutes finished 2nd in the NWC behind Willamette and then beat the Bearcats in the first round (closest game the Lutes had in the playoffs) in '99 to launch the 'Lutes run to the championship. Again, just because Willamette beat PLU in the reg. season and played them closest in the playoffs....does that mean Willamette should have been consider one of the elite in 1999? They didn't advance past the first round...so probably not.

I think that the success Capital had this year speaks for itself but I also think there is really something to say about being so familiar with a conference opponent when the playoffs roll around.

Using a previous year's game as a comparison is a bit of a stretch since both of these teams changed a lot between years.  That is almost like saying there was some connection between MUC playing WW in 2005 and 2003 after all it is only one year longer!

Thank you Pat you stole my thunder.  Another point to note the quarterfinal game was played at MUC.

joelmama, just having some fun. The pads are all put to rest for another year so now its just what ifs, could have beens and so on.

By the way....... No one has asked why I've posted so many on the oac board because I've "never" posted there to my Knowledge!
What thunder? My post as Pat stated was hypothetical, not once do you see me use Capital in that post!

Merry Christmas!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Joel,

The Coaching staff at Capital didn't change over the past 14 months...did it? ;)  Also, do you think there might be the possible thought that the MUC players were felt like Capital didn't have a chance because....when was the last time Capital beat Mount?

LK is a GREAT coach but you would have to admit there could be the slighest of chances that the team might have not be at its sharpest vs. a team that they've owned for so many years now.

I do remember in 2003 when Linfield slapped Redlands 49-10 to open the 2003 season but then Redlands came in for the first round of the playoffs and played the 'Cats tough with a 31-23 game.  Yes, Redlands improved during the season but I didn't think the 'Cats were at their sharpest vs. a team they've handled a number of times.

I know that many MUC fans probably didn't think Capital would put up such a battle in the North finals...maybe the MUC players thought the same thing?

I would comment but I fell asleep reading your novel.... :)

No....you have some good discussion points in that a second game might even play into more of an advantage for KR and staff but that didn't seem the case this year vs. Capital.  I guess. in the end....playing a team a second time discussion can work both ways.

I have no problem moving out.  In fact, I'll gladly do so.  Just remember that my wife and 3 kids stay with the house! ;D

Yeah, it's probably 10 times longer than it needs to be.  But after all the "he said / she said" stuff that's been spewed the last few days, I figured I might as well be thorough.

Besides, it's not like I'm wasting time at work typing this stuff......Oh wait.  Never mind.

hscoach....I started to read it and then I fell asleep after the 1st or 2nd paragraph. That sounds like something Wildcat11 would write if he was bored!

Anyway....Tux...why r you stirring it up so much with the Capital people? There are 3-4 teams in our league who would demolish them...Willamette, Whitworth, PLU and UPS. And L&C/Menlo may even have a chance, you never know on  a given Saturday...

Wildcat11....jeez louise...that was the best tape yet of Bruce A!!!! BRING MORE TAPES OFF ALL THE "CATS!!!! Including Gig Harbor's little puppy!

Well. I am in d3football withdrawal.  I tried to watch the game the other night on TV  Utep and somebody.  Couldn't get interested.  It's bad!!  I probably need to invest in a video of this year's Stagg Bowl and perhaps the Linfield-UW-WW game.  Anybody have any idea where to get those?  It's going to be a looooong off-season --at least until baseball gets here.  I know, I'll make desserts for the BC Eagle Club and it's great. But it's not the same!!
I've managed to wrap one, exactly one present and bake 2 cakes, one for each of my Luray brothers' families.  Tree still in closet.
It sure was a fun time last Saturday!  I enjoyed meeting all the posters from WW and MUC.  I think the tailgating was great fun.   Props to Llama and Skoal for leading the way and to d3fotball.com because that is how we all got together and had a great time in fellowship & friendship about football.  The Stagg Bowl and this web site brings so many people together.  Last year I had the privilege to meet great Linfield and UMHB fans and get photographed with the huge Linfield flag (Thanks, Chuck and Tim!!)  Ah, I'm beginning to feel better, Tinkerbell is that you?
When I leave for the sticks tomorrow, I will have no access to computers until I get back.  But when you get back from feasting and opening that box of socks, ties, shirts and other unmentionables, give us a post re those videos if you can!!  Gotta go! Love and e-brownies to all!  (The kind that are full of e-chocolate, of course!)
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!
