Way to go '64!

Bring Back the Band!
Bring 'em back and turn 'em loose!
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!

You might want to give more consideration to the HS band idea as a recruiting tool - both in general, and some of those Sousaphone players make excellent offensive linemen! ;D

[Disclaimer: I was a Sousaphone player in the best hs marching band in Illiniois (late 1960s) - at 110 pounds, I was NOT a good OL candidate!  But my 2nd chair tuba player ended up all-conference Big 10 as a right tackle!]

For everyone's info -

The roster for the 2006 Las Vegas All American Classic has been posted

Band in the South end zone baby...don't worry about the rain in God's country.  McMinnville is right in the heart of the Yamhill County Bananna Belt.

The only way they should bring back the band is if they change the entrance music from the olympics theme to the imperial march.  A good band is very cool and a not good band is well...not good.  If they can't do it right, they should wait until they get enough people to field a real band.  The pep band is lame.  UMHB's band at the Stagg was sweet...

Downtown is onto the larger point here.  Face it....the last few years, the pep band has not been very good.   Fans who came to Linfield games only occasionally would comment to me about it, asking "is this the best Linfield can do?"

My hope is that if a pep band is formed, that they do it right...and that takes more dedication than you might think at first glance.   But if that isn't going to happen, the high school alternatives or the canned music are better.   Canned music beats the heck out of what we have had in the recent past.

The Portland Tribune has a news item written by Kerry Eggers about Lewis and Clark football

Nothing that folks on this list don't already know, but good none the less!

Thanks beancounter,  L&C will have an up hill battle, but sounds like the new coach is up for it. I loved the quote from a former coach, " We had to start with transcripts as opposed to game tapes."

BRING BACK THE (good) BAND! ;D
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Bless you rbalkie!
My ticket to Las Vegas is validated!
Meet me in Vegas, Degas.
Bellagio Au Go Go.
Dinner on the house @ Pieros.

Ah, yes, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott, pleased to me you.

Combine schombine. It's serious time but just as fun as the regular season.

$.02...I never get tired of Jimi or Atomic Dog over a GOOD sound system during any break at a sporting event.
Why not both a permanent 'Cat Band and invitees?
Can you imagine a 'You've been served!' thing after a 42 yard  punt return for the 'Cats?

Great to see Brett and Linfield at the top of the West team roster for the Vegas Classic!  Also nice to see that he retains his #5 on the roster.....hopefully we'll see that familiar number pitching TD catches all over the Vegas stadium.....Go Brett Go....All the way to the NFL!!!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

A marching band? Perish the thought. Why should Linfield try to become even more mainstream? If we are to have a band, let it be one that is unique, thought provoking, humorous and a credit to the First Amendment.

R & P, your on the mark.

Marching band members are recruited like football players. It's one thing to be able to play, but play and march all over the place is a different story. all I'm hoping for is a pep band, big enough to give a full sound, and good enough to make us proud to have them.
I like the Idea of a high school marching band coming in to play at half. But starting our own marching band is like what L&C is going through getting the football program back on track....IMHO

Re:  The Band

To be honest I got so into the great team we had this past year I paid little attention to not having a band, however, when I saw the bowl games and saw the great marching bands halftime shows I saw what we were missing.

Tuxguy's comment I believe is well taken when he says we're like L &C as we get our band started and a pep band is a great start.  Once we get that up and running then we can focus on upping the band ante.

BTW I am still reeling at Vince Youngs'e performance at the Rose Bowl.  Was that not a QB performance for the ages? Yes they do need to postpone awarding the Heisman till after the bowl games.

Young had a performance for the ages vs. a decent USC "D" Bush on the other hand managed 275 plus total yards (on an off day) vs. a very good Texas "D". Bush will make the better pro and should have won the Heisman.
