What a great idea, LBC!

I can just picture the Southern University band taking the field at halftime of the Southern Oregon game. Wow!

Great points all......Last time I checked this was still America!
Thats why we can all post on here without being chased down and shot for talking about the band and not Football.

pdawg..... I took a flute player over a running back many years ago, she's alot better Cook!

My last point, We all give to the College, if everyone only gave to the Athletic dept, their would be no Linfield College!

                BRING BACK THE BAND!

sorry, gotta go......................The Police are at the door! ;)
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Thank God for that tuxguy!!   I suspect the only reason the band is being discussed is that it is recruiting season, news is going to be pretty slow and we can't let go of this site for very long.....so we talk about the band or lack thereof.  Besides, it gives a chance for me to get all these smites.....a badge of honor in reality.    Being not head over in heels in love with warmed over Louie Louie has given me a minus eight or so!     :'(   NOT!!!!

Great luncheon last week for Brett Elliott for the Melberger award.  Great to catch up with a few of the guys.   McKechnie is now doing substitue teaching, Boock has been hired on over at West Salem HS (where he no doubt will be giving me and my associates in the Salem Football Officials Assn. an earful next football season!), Haze is wrapping up school this spring.

Economics lesson....the cost of an e-mail is not $19.95 a month for internet access....internet access is actually free at McMinnville Public Library.   The marginal cost of an e-mail is free (excluding "opportunity cost"....the time badgering the athletic department is time that could have been used to work at 7-11 filling the Slurpee machine, for example)

WOW!! :o...the Beancounter and I agree on something! A big, good, band is cool, but is a far bigger undertaking than anybody thinks.  I would agree that the large majority of people could do without  20 slappys playing louie louie!
Now if we can just agree on kickers!!  ;)

On that note bean, after watching the Orange bowl, christ on a crutch, those slapdicks made GW look like Vinatieri!!  Maybe he wasn't so bad after all!   :)

Hey Tux:

You know what you get when you cross a runner and a flute player??? Yup, you got it...a soccer player and a pretty damm good one at that!

In case you're ever interested in what we give to the college beyond money, just check in with the soccer player. I think he'll tell you we give a lot to the college and the students in many different ways.

Yikes, I didn't know it was time for the Police Ball again! Probably good for business during the off-season!

Wildcat'64

The "drum beat" (debate) rages on -- we'll all know the answer in September, 2006.

One thing we can all agree on is hopefully 2006 will bring us a "stud running back".

The market crosses the 11,000 mark today so that should be good for some alums to continue their financial comittment to Wildcat athletics and if they have few pennies left maybe contribute to the fund to buy a hot dog for the band  members.

Bring Back A (Good) Band and A Stud Running Back
LEAVE NO DOUBT

Actually downtown....we agree on a lot of things (many times I don't take the time to point it out)....and the kicker issue is now put to rest due to graduation.   I'm amused by the term "slappy"....but it might not be a good thing for me to use it in everyday language.... :o

Well said AND in the true spirit of a liberal arts college. GO CATS!

Tuxguy

pdawg,        good karma for you. Believe me, I know what the athletic Dept does for the College, and am very thankful for it.  :)

The whole point of this band thing( for me anyway) is I was part of it for many years at Linfield, as was Bluenote, and to see it no longer is sad. We had so much fun at the football games playing and watching, and felt like we helped the team?!

It's Probably like the alums at L&C with there Football program in the toilet! ;)
    As always.....IMHO
               BRING BACK THE BAND! ;D
                        GO CATS!

Another applaud for the watchmakers behind this site. It is as current as humanly possible. I am comparing here.

I am excited about going to the Las Vegas All American Bowl and I jog over to their website today and

Update...
Kickoff at 1:30 p.m. (Pacific Time)*
Saturday, January 14, 2006

Swell. They had a 7:00pm start posted forever so I took a languid flight out of Long Beach at noon. Good thing the flight is only an hour but the warm-ups were something to look forward to. (%*&$*($#^%^$^#&*^!!!!)

This little nugget appeared in the Minneapolis Star Tribune after Doug Flutie converted the first NFL drop kick in 60 years.  I thought you NWCers would like to see it:

According to the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind., the last drop kick in a college game came on Sept. 28, 1957. Tommy Gilmer of Pacific Lutheran drop-kicked an extra point, providing the winning margin in a 7-6 victory over the University of Puget Sound.

That must have been successful. In 1993 (I think) PLU played Westminester at Civic Stadium and PLUs QB (I can't remember his name) attempeted one. He made it but was ruled no good due to it not hitting the turf.

good call bean, "slappy" doesn't work for me at work either except for special situations, like if we were watching the Orange Bowl at work and saw the kicker shank the game winner from 29 yards out...but otherwise...no. :P

Hi Dens,
$19.95! ouch, mine just went up to $14.95 so I have to keep a posting to get my money's worth. Nope, no time at work to sit on my fanny. You take care and lookin forward to seeing ya next fall. :)

Whoever said anything about a marching band to equal Gramblings. All I mentioned was a good pep band and inviting a High School marching band to perform at halftime. If its going to rain than fine. cancel it. I wouldn't expect to pay for a high school band to perform.

Bluenote/Tuxguy
How was it back when you played. Was it all on a volunteer basis or was it for extra credit or what? I spoke with someone today who graduated with a Ed. major and music minor and her question wasn't the money but would any students even want to do it.

As for the e-mailing thing I see nothing wrong with that providing its done in a respectful manner. I only expressed
my views and offered some ideas. I would think they would return the e-mails just out of polietness.
