I have just heard via e-mail rom Dr. Faun Tiege.  Dr. Tiege stressed to me the importance of live music at all college events, especially football.

Dr. Tiege sounded as one could very well be in place this fall. but the success would vary from year to year depending upon the availability of performers. Dr. Tiege noted in the past the concerns as to seating capacity as well as the availability of performers.

Dr. Tiege mentioned a student led band is in the works.

That's great news. It sounds like it's going to get done.
Thanks for posting it.

Swede and All BANDwagon folks,

I too received an email response this afternoon from Dr. Tiege.  The content sounds the same as yours Swede with the exception that she also told me she would discuss with the Band Director a possibility of a Wildcat Marching Band.

From her email:  "Currently, there is a student-led pep band in the works, so you may find that the band will return soon to the football games."

I intend to write a  Thank You note to her for her interest, help, and assistance.

It would probably would be good if the "ad hoc band committee" could still get together as pdawg offered.
They could then offer their input, ideas, perhaps we could all chip in a few $$ for the pizza, etc. and then let Dr. Faun know that we are truly here to help make the Game Day experience at the Catdome the Class of DivisionIII.  I don't know if she has even heard of the idea that was proposed here of inviting guest High School Bands to perform at Halftime.  She might  also be receptive to that proposal.

Bring a Stud Running Back and a Good Band to the Catdome in 2006!!!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

I agree on meeting with Dr. Tiege. Pdawg has offered to facilitate one. I think we should be part of the solution and not part of the problem. :)

Dr. Sparky

The lack of a band was a HUGE pet peeve for Mrs. Sparky and me all season long. Nice work guys! When it comes time to help feed or clothe them, let me know where to contribute.

Fa Natic....lots of rumors....especially the two tuba players who are unhappy at their current school who want to be in on the ground floor of the new band.  They are best of friends and are kind of a "package" deal.    It sounded to me like it was going to come down to money and a good financial aid package from the College.   A couple of the NAIA's are in on them and we know they can do more financially than Linfield can.  So, we have to wait this one out....

:D  No no no... F o o t b a l l players. LOL
{Clever sign-off goes here.}

I have sent an email to Wildcat 64, Tuxguy and swede re:

I would love to see the Butcher deliver  the meat all day, but the twins have to work  the Desert Challenge off road race.. At Laughlin , so I will be traveling up river to keep them under control. If that is possible? yeeee haaaaa

AZCATDADDY

DesertCat,

I hope that I am able to send another Arizona prospect up to the Northwest. I have been talking to a local kid that would look great in purple and red. He went to the same High School as #45. Best part is that he is a kid that rush for a couple of 200 yard games in a tough conference. I think #45 will be talking to him and some other AZ recruits as soon as #45 returns from the Northwest. I think Powell and #45 are going to team up to canvas the desert.

azcatdaddy :
That's good news too.  I sure enjoyed my visit this year  it was just to short. Old man  #45 is one great asset for the cats to have in the sunshine state. The cash flow north will be ending soon for you.  You should be proud of#45  he did one heck of a great job this year. He will be missed if he gets a real job? (joke)

Ask him if he left his lights on again and what he got for his birthday?

Great news all around......

pdawg.....no e-mail as of yet.
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

I have been given permission by Abby Quick, the student leader of the Linfield College Pep Band to post her message to me after my message to the Professor of Band forwarded my message to her. Here is the content and her very responsive and intelligent response:

Bluenote's initial letter:

Could you tell me what the current status of the pepband is now at
Linfield? In the past it has been a great compliment to the football
games, etc. I noticed this year they were not even at the games which is
very sad. Plus the canned music just doesn't cut it. It's a rather
personal thing to me also being an alumni and fond past participant in
the band, music dept and pep band. Could you give me your perspective on
it and whether there are any plans to revitalize the program? I'm
wondering if there can be some type of collaberation between the
community band and the college band program to field a strong or at least
functioning quality pep band? Any thoughts or comments...

....and Abby's response:

Hello
My Name is Abby Quick, and I am the pep band
coordinator as Joan has mentioned. I am very glad to
hear that you are interested in the pep band. It has
been a difficult year for the group. As of right now
we play at basketball games with a group of about 10
people. I conduct the group, but if need be I will
also play my trumpet.
What I need for this group is many things. First of
all, and for most I need to get better attendance. I'm
not sure how to achieve this. Hopefully, at fall
registration I will be able to set up a table to get
freshman to sign up. However, if the pep band is not
allowed to play at the football games, I don't know
how effective recruitment during the fall will be.
Another big issue is the music library. The pep band
music is in deplorable condition and in desperate need
of organizing and updating. Over this semester (Jan
term) I am going to organize the music best I can and
make a list of missing parts and such. Now that the
pep band is a club, I am going to use some of the
money allowed to us to buy some new music. My last
goal is to get liars (music holders) for the entire
band so no stands will be needed. However, I will
accomplish this as the money becomes available.
What would be great from you and any other Alumni
would be find as many people as you can to come play.
I have a lot of community members come and play for me
and the more the merrier. Also if you know of any
Alumni, including yourself if you wish, to come and
play send there names and emails my way. Another
thing, the only way I think that Pep Band will be
invited back to football games is by pressure to the
football people, such as Scott Carnahan, by the
Alumnae. Lastly Money is always needed for items, as
stated above, so if any body wants to donate, send
their information my way.
So this is the situation with the pep band. If you have any question or
suggestions feel free to email me. I look forward to
working with you to make this pep band great.

Thank you

-Abby Quick

....I have told Abby that I would be willing to help her by donating funds to her cause or volunteering time to help her get organized. She told me that she would be open to anyone's efforts to help with the cause. Maybe the meeting pdawg is organizing can help too. I think the biggest thing right now is for the Athletic Dept to commit to welcoming the pep band back and helping them retain there place under the stands. There also has to be a commitment by the students themselves that are in the band to want to practice as a group and be involved. I talked to another prof about this who is in the art dept and he said that clubs always have ebs and flows. Sometimes there is a lot of interest one year and not so much the next....so this has to be considered. There was a different mentallity when I was in school and in the band...basically if you were in the band, you were in the pepband and that was that. But with the club situation it's somewhat different....
