I don't think anyone should get there hopes up about Brett being drafted.
From what I've seen of him, he doesn't show the arm strength of the eligible to draft qb's that I've watched.

But, he still has a chance to impress some scouts with individual workouts so ya never know.

Remember, Jason White, the Heisman trophy winner a few years ago didn't even get drafted.

Hopefully he'll sign a free agent deal, and make some noise like Kitna.

I don't know how much you've seen of Elliott. I've watched him for 2 years (24 games) and he definitely has the arm strength for the NFL. He gets the ball to where it needs to be (deep or short). Whether or not he's drafted isn't up to us. Also, I don't think NFL scouts really pay attention to what announcers have to say.

I hope Brett makes it to the next level, be it NFL Europe, the NFL, or Arena. I think he has the skills to play somewhere, perhaps in the CFL.

RFB, Bob Davie is right, however. The DBs and receivers at the small college level really aren't that great. Go to a D-I practice some time and there are guys 6-4, who run 4.4's who are sitting on the sidelines. There are exceptions now and then of guys who could play up, perhaps in I-AA (Allen, Hazenberg, Hinshaw of WOU a few years ago), but Bob Davie is correct. The DBs at the D3 level are awful, as are those at D2.

To be honest, the DBs aren't very good at the I-AA level. It's a tough position to recruit, even at the high D-I level. Most DBs played RB or WR as a prep and wanted to play offense in college, then they're moved to the defense. At the I-AA level, you're left with a lot of scraps. It gets much worse at the D2, D3, and NAIA levels.

Elliott is a good QB, he would not light up D-I teams like he did the D3 teams he played against. C'mon: there is a huge difference between UPS DBs and Pac-10 DBs.

Bob Davie was completely correct.

Also, you need more than two passes to evaluate a QB for the NFL level. Jeff George could sling the ball 80 yards, Ryan Leaf could fire it a good 70 yards. Much, much more goes into the evaluation process than two passes.

I've seen a lot better QBs than Brett Elliott not make it to the pros ... though I do hope Brett makes it.

He won't get drafted.

Bluenote and I had a phone conversation yesterday about the helmet decal debacle....here I expected three pages of it and yet it has died.   I have my own theory, but in the better interests of peace in the neighborhood.............

And of course, I'm also enjoying the outrage over Bob Davies' comments....at least as much as I was enjoying people telling me a year ago that Pam Ward and Mike Tomczak were biased against Linfield in the Stagg Bowl broadcast.

Carry on......

I'm always surprised when people don't know the difference between D-I and the rest of the NCAA world. I had classmates at WOU who were slow as molasses b-tching about getting snubbed by OSU and UO ... riiiiiiiight.

Now given the opportunity, Allen and Hazenberg might be able to play I-AA ball, and actually both might contend for starting positions in the Big Sky. Then again, maybe not. I'd have to see them do it, not just talk it.

Defensive backs in the NWC and also D2 and NAIA are slow and not very athletic. Defensive backs at D-I are explosive, quick, extremely fast, athletic, and are monsters in the weight room. There's a huge difference.

Just wanted to thank 11 for the Linfield (Elliot) video.  Must have been fun watching in person.  Sure looks as if Brett has every bit the arm strength of say..Jake Delhomme.  BE has also got to be incredibly accurate to put up the kind of numbers he did the last two years and has the brains and attitude to make it.    Hope he gets his shot.

Let's hope Brandon Marshall, the WR Brett was throwing to, gets drafted because the NFL doesn't have enough players who "pose for pictures" in the end zone after scoring a TD.

D1, D2, D3, or NAIA talent is talent. We all know the difficulty in reaching the next level for any athlete. Players who excelled in college don't always make it to the NFL. Let's just wait and see.

KennethK has it right.

They were biased against Linfield. They were also biased against Mary Hardin-Baylor and against the city of Salem, Va. All you had to do was watch the preview of the game that was on ESPN the night before to learn that.

That crew was a joke and I was ecstatic that they were not on the call in 2005.

Concerning the 2004 Stagg Bowl:
Yes, Yes, Yes! Thanks for telling it like it is.
No respect for lower division teams. Notice how they (ESPN) drop their coverage as soon as the game clock runs out. Very little, if any, post game interviews or discussion.

woufan,

I know the difference between DI and DIII talent. I feel that B.E. could possibly make a team and be the third quarterback or gain a spot on the practice squad. I was reacting to Bob Davie watering down DIII level talent as a whole. Casey Allen, George Carter, and many others were receiving talent that I thought of when Davie made his comments. My point was that Bob Davie most likely has not watched a lick of DIII football and was making a pretty biased statement.

woufan

D3 talent is watered down as is D2 and NAIA. George Carter, Allen, Hazenberg, etc., are the exceptions not the rule in D3.

If Linfield continues to get players of that talent, they'll continue to do well. Those three could probably play at the I-AA level.

Some of WOU's best receivers over the years would've been cut by average to bad Oregon State teams. That's just the way it is.

As to whether Davie has watched any D3 football, I'm not sure.

Gotta hand it to the Hula Bowl graphic people. They had the LINFIELD WILDCAT logo plain as day there on Brett's profile in Wildcat11's video clips.

What I got when I got home from Roanoke last December, there were more than a few people talking about how UMHB got much better support from the broadcasters than Linfield did....which I thought was a bit funny because most national broadcasters could care less who wins and loses.

Be that as it many, he ESPN crew hardly did a great job last season....though it was a bit better this year with Gary Bender and Bill Curry.

But the idea of an ESPN conspiracy against Linfield was one step beyond the "ten hot dogs in a package, eight hot dog buns to a package" conspiracy on the grassy knoll we have come to know and love.  Or maybe Mike Tomczak is a on the payroll and UMHB and he was told to stick it to Linfield on the air that day....
