Try that again..with the loss of all those great players, could 06 be the year Whitworth wins the Northwest?

Could be their year. But coming from Eastern Washington, they have a tendancy to 'Coug it. {For a definition, reference last night's staking performances.} The Pirates had a good chance to be in the playoffs the past two years and had a chance to win the league outright in 2001. The '06 NWC race will be very interesting. At least three teams have a legit shot, and one or two others will be right behind them.

Thanks for the tip on the ESPN article on BE..most interesting.  Joel Clark had a great year for Whitworth in 05. What does he have coming back for receivers?

Looks like the big TE and one WR. Here's a link to do a little digging about returning strength among NWC squads:

Also, Whitworth just added a game at UW-Stout to replace Eastern Oregon. So they play at Redlands, host La Verne, go to Wisc., then take a week off before 6 straight NWC games (Menlo is a NWC game this year). The Pirates play Willamette and Linfield late in the year.

It's a good article about a great player. I don't really understand the lack of attention the NFL is showing towards Brett. Perhaps the March workouts will help.

Sure the Cats loose some great players, But I don't see them missing a beat. AT Linfield, the players on the bench these past couple of years would have started for many other teams. This will be there time to make a mark on the Linfield tradition of great teams. If the rest of the NWC wants to count them out, great, and watch out!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

There's a good article on espn.com about Elliot and his draft status.  Go to NFL draft coverage, it's right next to pasquarelli: Intriguing prospects not in Indy.

Some team has to give him a shot, all the numbers are great and everything that he put up, but the fact that he beat out Alex Smith not once but twice is what makes him a legitimate prospect in my opinion.

I agree with you big time Shane.  I actually had coffee with the Bills scout that was at the Willamette game this year. He lives in Gig Harbor He noticed that I was wearing my Linfield shirt and struck up a conversation with me.  Not only was he impressed with BE but he told me that he wanted to take a second look at one WR as well.  Wonder who that was ??? ??? I am confident that the word is out and our guy will get his shot.

Thanks for the tip, nice article.

I love that line about the rather dubious prospects that WERE invited over BE.  Anyone else think Marcus Vick is a Ricky Williams waiting to happen?

I've really gotten disgusted with the NFL as a whole not only tolerating such behavior but seeming to embrace it at times.  Current example from our own NW team, the Seattle Seahawks:  Ken Hamlin gets his head knocked in with a street sign after a bar brawl that all the security cameras and witnesses (with the exception of his girlfriend) say that HE started. What happens?  They make sure he keeps his full contract for the entire rest of the year, even though they had every right to ding him some amount for missing those games. Coach Holmgren says there was "never even a question"  that he'd keep his full contract.

Then comes Jeremy Urban, the D-III kid who gets hurt ON THE FIELD and they cut him, not even giving him a "measely" $70,000 that they could have.  It was only after a HUGE outcry that they re-signed him.  (Personally, I ended up getting kicked off the Seahawk's message board due to some rather pointed sarcastic remarks.)

{Clever sign-off goes here.}

Don't want to knock Oregon's Clemens but what did he and his ducks do while he was at the helm, not much of anything. Then Clemens busts his ankle, has a pin put in, sits the remainder of the season and is rewarded for his pain by an invite to the combine. I have no doubt that if BE stayed at a D1 school he'd be going to the combine as well.

Marcus Vick is a Ricky Williams that already has happened. Twice suspended and then kicked out of school.
Yea, here's a guy I'd really love to coach or have as a teammate.

Excerpt of an article from the U. of Texas at Arlington newspaper:

"The constant excuses that have been made for professional athletes have created college athletes who have the same ideas about how to behave themselves. They have the false impression that this criminal behavior is acceptable and that they will be given a free pass. They see it happen in professional sports, so why not start early in college?"

It's not a good idea to paint with such a broad brush, but I agree with the authors point. There are a lot of good and decent men and women participating in NCAA sports. It's too bad we hear more about the one's who bring shame to themselves and to the game.

Well, last year they didn't do too much but they ended up, what, tenth in the nation this year? That's not too shabby. I agree with the sentiment that there are other more deserving QBs and I've never been overwhelmed with Clemens but I think he's a good example of someone who ought to be there. He broke his ankle, so you'd think that all those scouts would WANT him there to put him through his paces to see if he can hold up. QBs like Young and Leinhart (who aren't going anyway), how much more can they REALLY show you at that thing? I'd think the combine is to see and meet people you don't know much about.
