Thanks '64
Looks like the first game is this sat. if so, when will the final cut be? And don't they have a rule that only so many US players per team?

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Not sure but I think half of the team has to be made up of Canadians

Appears like the Casey Allen supporters are beginning to cast their votes!!!!Casey now has 119 votes and has moved into third place.  For those who want to support a Wildcat you too can vote at www.bluebombers.com.

Yes he's showing some signs of life thanks to the Wildcat Faithful but that's a far distant third so we need to give this a full court press.  It doesn't seem like voting for Elliott for the Heisman where we got to revote once a week as I recall.  Doesn't this feel a bit strange though my fellow Casey supporters?  Here we are casting our votes though none of us have seen Casey (as a Blue Bomber) and the Blue Bombers play.  In truth I don't even know where Winnipeg is, and as for Canada isn't it up North somewhere? ::) :'( ;)

BTW, what ever happened to Top Cat 1?  Is he too busy running the City of McMinnville that he doesn't take time to come out and play on this message board once in a while?

Tux,
Yep there is a restriction on the number of Americans that can play on the Canadian team according to their website.
There first game is June 2 and I think June 1 is the "final cut" for the squad size. Here's hoping Casey makes the cut and shows those Canadian folks what Wildcats are made of!

Topcat#1 is doing well and will be back by the start of the season. Topcat just got done building a room for his Pez collection which is awesome and now is remodeling his home. You know you can't keep a 'cat down.
Take care. :)

So there is something to the Pez thing with him. I was not aware that he had a Pez collection.  Maybe for a modest admission fee he can give me a tour of it sometime.
Give him my best.  I look forward to seeing you, and he and the old crew back in the Tailgate section in the Fall.  In the meantime I hope you guys have a great summer.

fbgcat,
Did you play Qb for the Cats a few moons ago? If so email me and I will let you know who I am, some good stories! ;D

I remember the Northwestern game well, when they first took the field,  I thought they were the St Louis Cardinals. They were very big. As I remember, even down 22-0, not one fan left that game.

It's an even year fans....'82...'84...'86...'04...'06?

GHC....Good to hear from you, hope all is well. How your BB team do this year?

Remember Chris Turner?

DenS,

Part of our problem during the '92 championship game is that we lost our all-world middle linebacker the week before the game. We was an All-American at least one, maybe two years, I believe. Along with Joe Smith, he was our best defensive player, but by far the meanest and most intimidating player on the team. I mention this because that big, fat running back spirit86 mentions tore us apart that game. I remember him running right up the middle countless times and then getting up and talking more smack than any player I've ever seen Linfield play against. I feel he definately intimidated our D with both his physical skills AND verbal jarring. I am quite confident the middle linebacker mentioned would have put an end to that the first time fatboy came up the middle and started running his mouth. Instead, he kept killing us the entire game. We will never know how that game might have been different with one of the most talented and intimidating 'Cat players clogging up the middle that game. But, that's the way it goes and part of winning a championship is having to overcome adversity.

On a brighter note, it's nice to also read some of the posts about how things turned out much better during the championship games of the 80's.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Congratulations to the Linfield football players that graduated this past Sunday.
Thank you for all the good times you gave us at the Catdome.
Best wishes to those who are leaving Linfield this year. You will be missed.
To those players who are returning next season, I say GO CATS!

That brings up a question that I have been wanting to ask.  What is the full impact of graduation for the Cats for next year.  Obviously, losing Brett and Casey will be tough but how many other starters do you lose to graduation?  I read where the Johnnies are losing 11 of 22 starters, some appear to be very key positions.  UWW has a motto that says, "Tradition Never Graduates," and that surely applies to programs with a winning history in the playoffs like the Cats and the Johnnies.  So I realize that graduations means less with these programs but I was just wondering.  UWW only loses 6 starters and with a recruiting class topping over 80 players, hopefully, our winning tradition started last year.

coco...what is the luncheon Saturday?

Foss man, does it not seem LINFIELD has lost All-Americans for the playoffs a bit outside the odds? I suppose the more you have the more chance you have to lose them for one reason or another.

KOIN broadcast the '82, '84, '86 championship games (Steve Arena I think had a large role in this) and along with the game, they presented a great pre-show which inluded a "Road to the Championship" type docs. I remember from the '84 season that Lindley did not even play until the L&C game- prior to his starting you get a lot of the lower scoring, close games. Once he took over, the offense bacame increaingly more potent.

I was only 7 at the time, but I still remeber that playoff game up at PLU. Hilights of it are available on the extra video on the 'cats championship dvd.

Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Spirit of 86.....thanks for kicking up some memories.   The staion that did the championship games was actually KATU (the ABC affiliate in Portland for those out of the area) where Linfield alum Arena was the sports editor for years.   I have video tapes of all three games someplace in a box somewhere....haven't watched them for years since I haven't been able to find them for years.... ::)

The '84 game against Northwestern was memorable for another reason.  After NW scored to make it 22-0, Linfield's next drive stalled in NW territory, leading to what some thought was a strange decision.  Coach Rutschman decided to get points on the board and went for a field goal that made it 22-3.    Typical Rutschman....no panic at all, despite fans that were a little cranky with the FG decision.  The defense got a stop and then the offense started clicking.   Linfield exposed one of the NW corners...Lindley went over the top a few times...NW started to commit some safeties to help with pass coverage, which helped open up the running game......and the emotion level caught on.    It was an incredible ten minutes of football....maybe one of the best in Linfield history.

Quite the move to go for the FG in that situation.  I've heard Rutsch explain that decision before and it was psychology at work.  He figured to that point in the game, the team hadn't had much success doing anything.  So he wanted them to have some success and see if they could build on it.  Imagine if they had gone for the TD and been stopped.  We might only be talking about three national championships...
