It was quite the move, Downtown.   But Coach's instincts were dead on.

If you watch enough football, you'll see similar situations.  More than once since that game I've been watching football with a similar situation as Linfield had in December 1984.   A lot of fans scream at yell about going on fourth down and I whip out the line that Otter used once in the movie Animal House "Well, let me tell you a story.....", and then recall the 1984 championship......

Linfield Beancounter,

You're correct about that 1984 classic, it ranks among the greatest comebacks in any national championship game at any level. If anyone is interested in watching this game, I do know the college library has a copy. At least they did when I flew out to Oregon last September.

Topcat just got done building a room for his Pez collection which is awesome and now is remodeling his home. You know you can't keep a 'cat down.

Swede, sorry but my marketing mind never rests.  Are we at the point yet that we can add Mac's Great Pez Collection to the Spruce Goose and Wineries tour? ::)

KOIN broadcast the '82, '84, '86 championship games (Steve Arena I think had a large role in this) and along with the game, they presented a great pre-show which inluded a "Road to the Championship" type docs. I remember from the '84 season that Lindley did not even play until the L&C game- prior to his starting you get a lot of the lower scoring, close games. Once he took over, the offense bacame increaingly more potent.

I was only 7 at the time, but I still remeber that playoff game up at PLU. Hilights of it are available on the extra video on the 'cats championship dvd.

Right on Spirit.  Ad tried three different QB's before he settled on Lindley. Dave Ellis, Ernie Rose and and and I forgot. Beancounter, who was that third QB? I want to say Mike Wadd.

Looks like the votes for Casey are rolling in as they are polling up North as to who is the most impressive receiver in training camp.  Casey was in fourth place just a couple of days ago and now is solidly in 3rd place with 50 more votes than the 4th place guy.  Looks like he won't make it to the top of the heap for 1st or 2nd place (as that appears to be a real horse race) but even a strong 3rd place finish would be nice for the Cat......for those who still want to support Casey in the poll go to www.bluebombers.com....

"64,

I think this is like voting for the Heisman and in Chicago after all.  It appears you do get to vote early and often.  I think it took my second vote tonight after having voted a few days ago. So let's give Casey another vote and however many that ballot box will accept to get him up the Bombers food chain by making the team.

Congratulations to the Linfield softball team with their final national ranking of  #4.

Also, nice win against the Kohawks and on going 2-2 in the college world series.

Who knows, maybe we can get some get back in next years football playoffs.

Good luck on the upcoming season, and thanks for doing your part to make the West Region the most dominate  Region in football.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Even though my memory is a bit foggy, it seems to me that there were a few drives in the '92 nat champ game where a field goal instead of a failed 4th down might have changed the game. I would have to consult the play-by-play, but it seems to me that the game could have been even closer.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

I think we finally went for a field goal in the second half. I remember us missing it - it was very makeable and at an important time in the game. I want to say that if we would have made it the lead would have been cut to 8, not to mention the possible change in momentum.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Yep, Cam Cat, you're right again (more karma for you)...it's just like the Heisman voting...you can vote early and often. Who's knows once the word is out to Catland worldwide Casey may end up being the best receiver the Blue Bombers ever signed.  Go Casey show 'em what the Cats are made of!!!

I would love to have a copy of that 84 Championship game.  How can I get one?

Swede- I believe Mike Wadd was a redshirt that season.

An update from the Beancounter lost and found department....

Still lost.....the 1984 championship tape vs. Northwestern (Iowa)

FOUND!!!   The 1982, 1984 and 1992 video tapes.  Watched the first half of the 1982 tape...and boy....am I really that old!  More than the game, the ads KATU sold were a kick to watch.  The Safeway ad selling chuck steak at 98 cents a pound.   The ad for Willamette Savings (long since gone defunct) promoting high money market savings rates (so high that they wouldn't tell you on the ad, but they were probably 10% or so).   Oh...the game....it was fun to watch Randy Mueller pick apart William Jewell.

Have  we really slipped this far on the bar stool or is it healthy anticipation?.....
