Shocking news with Locey. On why Norm Maves didn't break the story, I'm pretty sure he's not going to be covering the cats any more. He might have changed his mind but that's what I heard from him last season.

You don't have to advertise an interim job and you don't really have any legal issues, per se, with naming your own guy right away as an interim.

I was not aware that Mike Riley was the defensive coordinator at Linfield for awhile.
News Register, Locey Moving to OSU

Even compared to Rutschman, and Durham, 23 years coaching at Linfield is a long time, and for such a young guy with plenty of future ahead.

As confident as many of us may have felt about the starting of what could be the 51st consecutive winning season this year aren't we all reminded that Jay Locey's first year was his biggest streak threating year?  Let's hope that his experience does not portend the future for this year as a new coach steps in to continue Linfields historic winning ways.

One thing we know for sure God himself is not going to turn around OSU's won loss record on a dime.  I hope he enjoys his well deserved big raise but he will never at OSU have the won loss record he experienced at Linfield.

Be sure to vote in the D3 Poll.
How will Linfield do if Locey leaves?
You can see the Johnnies have hit this poll already.

Given that we are into June already, I'm sure that's a route they'll strongly consider. Choose one of the two guys, name them as interim for this season, and it'll be relatively simple to remove the interim title in Dec.

Boy, what a shocker. My father-in-law called last night with the news and you'd have thought a close relative had died.

I guess it being 06/06/06,  you had to know something bad was going to happen..

Regarding why Kerry Eggers and not Norm Maves broke the story, Locey's bio on the Linfield site seems to explain why:

"As a sophomore at Corvallis High School in 1970, he had the opportunity to play on the varsity football team that went undefeated and won the state championship. A reserve linebacker, he played special teams while learning under a special group of seniors that included Mike Riley, Gary Beck, Don Reynolds, Jerry Hackenbrauk, and Kerry Eggers."

Any truth to the rumor that the 'Cats will be pursuing John Gagliardi?  You know what they say, "If you can't beat them, steal him." ;D

I'm sure Locey will be missed by all you 'Cat fans, but not the rest of the NWC.  He is a great coach.

O.K. I have to put in my 2 cents. Good luck to Coach Locey.

Now my Question is.... Timing? ??? Did this job at OSU just open up? Dec. Jan. Feb. But June 6th? Why now with 10 weeks until camp? I understand wanting to coach D1, and with your friend, But if your friend is on a sinking ship would you jump on? I like Coach Riley, and remember when he was at Linfield and have watched as he has moved from the CFL, To D1, To the NFL and back to D1, but he  is on thin ice at OSU, the alums just added big $$$ to the stadium and wont wait long to start winning some games. As always..... IMHO

Best of luck Coach Locey, sorry to see you leave. It's been a fun ride!

The Cat Nation will be fine.......Leave No Doubt '06
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Tux,

You hit the nail on the head!  In reading the Beavers forums over the past football season there have been numerous calls for Riley's resignation.  He just can't seem to put together the right combination to win in the Pac 10 and the posters and alumni are not happy.....especially after the drubbing they received from the Ducks last fall.  I wonder what will happen if the guillotine falls and Riley is gone...they will obviously go for a national search and try to get a big name to fill the new stadium (that they couldn't fill last year).  Will a new coach bring in his own team??  Probably if Riley goes.

Iwish Jay well but boy the status of their program with Coach Riley is questionable at best.  I see this morning some Beaver posters on Oregon Live are already questioning the wisdom of hiring Coach Locey when they just hired a Strength & Conditioning Coach for all athletics.

The natives are definitely restless in Corvallis.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

Here is an idea that will get under your skin...rumor has it that perhaps Speckman will leave catdome south and move to the promised land! Of course that means the fly would wear purple...and do I dare say female kickers!!!!!

Say it isnt so.

While the fans may be calling for Riley's head I would imagine the AD will give Riley a chance to cycle out Erickson's crappy players.  Riley built a winner before he left and Erickson won with Riley's guys.  As soon as Riley can get rid of the dead weight, he'll probably have them going the right direction.  But you're all correct in the fact that job security doesn't really go hand in hand with D1 football.

As far as Speckman goes...he's a great coach but they're not going to change the offense for the guy and he sure as hell wouldn't be the head guy.

Thanks '64,
Looks like not everyone enjoyed my post, Took a Karma hit. To funny!!
If you don't agree with something said, come out and say it instead of hiding under a rock!

BubRub, say it isn't so... :o... DT48, I'm with you, I can't see the Cats running the fly.
The Cats have some young, very  good kickers coming up, so no female kickers in the near future!!

Thanks Downtown,

I'm feeling better already. Even the initial thought of that rumor didn't make sense to me and I don't pretend to know that much about Linfield football.

I hope I'm right!  I don't think I could put up a good defense when all my work buddies started giving me crap about that BS gimmick offense!
