First, we Wildcat fans lose one of the best senior classes Linfield ever had.

Now, Coach Locey is headed to OSU to be an assistant under Coach Riley?   Bad move.   Within 3 years, Riley will probably be fired and so will Locey.      That is the truth about Division I football.

Nevertheless, I wish Coach Locey the best.    He is a great coach and person.     But, Division I is cutthroat.

Congratulations to Coach Locey. So sad to see him go, but I can understand why he chose this kind of special opportunity. He has given a tremendous amount of himself to Linfield over the past two decades and will be sorely missed.

I think Coach Riley's position at Oregon State for the next couple of years is likely more secure than one might think. Although the Beavers were under .500 last year, remember they had a winning season the year before which included beating the Ducks 50-21 and then spanking Notre Dame (for the second straight time) 38-21 in their bowl game. The year before that, they had a strong 8-5 season, culminated with a 55-14 bowl victory. However, I agree that there are far fewer guarantees of longevity for a coach at the D1 level. I wish him the best in Corvallis.

For anyone worried about how the 'Cats will do the next couple of years, just remind yourself of what happened the first season after The Legend, Coach Rutschman, left. The 'Cats went undefeated all the way until their national championship game loss to Findley, OH. I'm not saying we should expect the 'Cats to return to Salem, VA this year, but I do feel we will have enough talent to at least compete for the NWC title. And in my book, that is still a pretty good team.

I believe either of the two candidates the article mentions would be excellent replacements, if one were to be selected. However, a couple people have mentioned Coach Ad as an interim coach. I absolutely agree with this. What better mentor for the new coach to learn from as he becomes more comfortable with running the team? I have no idea what Coach Ad's interest level is in increasing his involvement with the football program at this stage in his life. If he does have an interest, I would really, really hope he is given a bigger role with the team. When you have someone like him in your backyard it makes all the sense in the world, if he wishes to pursue it.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

You mean I have to start rooting for the Beavers!? ;D

He is going to "the Show".  He's been to the Stagg Bowl.  How much more is he making per year?

Here is one last chance to do something different. :)

He has very little to lose.  He can coach at practically any level that he wishes, if OSU doesn't work out.

The Silver Lining
Okay....so maybe some of the "silver chip" players that are riding the pines at OSU will get wise and become "Purple Chip" players via Riley and now Locey 8)

You hit the nail on the head Ralph...He can go there and in 4 or 5 years make close to a million dollars.  When he's done there, he can coach anywhere he wants including going back to Linfield or retiring if he wants.  Probably not as the head coach but something similiar to what Langsdorf did.  I don't think this was something he could pass up...

criswyly

I believe Locey will do well....because he is a people person...coaches love player, players love coaches, etc....DI needs and will respond to that....Oh yeah....Locey Loves Jesus....no one loses there 8)

If you don't agree with something said, come out and say it instead of hiding under a rock!

BubRub, say it isn't so... :o... DT48, I'm with you, I can't see the Cats running the fly.
The Cats have some young, very  good kickers coming up, so no female kickers in the near future!!

Riley will be fine for a while.  Lets not confuse OSU boosters with USC boosters.  You have to know who you are.  If OSU boosters don't know that their team is mediocre they should look at their past 50 years. If boosters are happy with an 8-5 season and bowl win over an underachieving Notre Dame team then expectations must not be that high.  I actually hate the Ducks and have nothing against the Beavs...just telling it like it is.

Locey might actually be a better coach than Riley and be able to bring something to get over the mediocre hump.  He's a winner and will do a great job.  Like others have said, if this doesn't work out to be long term he'll surely land on his feet elsewhere.

Hey Guys,
I am back after some technical difficulties.  Tried to log on several days ago and it said my "username didn't exist."  Very frustrating.  Heard from Pat and he said that it wasn't done on their part so I must have deleted myself.  I haven't a clue how, though.  Anyway, after re-registering, this is my first post.  Kind of a test to see if I am starting from scratch and have no karma or priviledges that come with 200 posts..........

THAT SUCKS!!!!!! :-\ :-\ :-\
Well, I contacted Pat again and asked it he can just restore my numbers and privileges so we will see.........in the mean time, my karma had been on the increase and I was around 30-32.....hint....hint....  But  having to get back up to 200 posts to regain karma privileges again is a pain!!!!  Good thing it is getting close to football season!! ;D ;D ;D  I may have to resort to telling dumb jokes!! ;D ;D

Largely because of Locey, osu will win the national title in a few years.

I think that Linfield should interview Rich Brooks. He seems to really motivate his guys. I also heard a rumor that Tom Smythe was seen ordering take-out from Muchas in Mac just yesterday. Not sure what to make of that....
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

George,
You continue to amaze  me with the crap that rolls out of your mouth.  Why don't you just wish coach well.  He is a good man, great coach and will always be a Cat.
