Deep Thoughts by John Madden: (A tip of the hat to SNL)

"Of course, if he had had control of the ball when he hit the ground, then it would have been a complete pass."
Thanks for explaining the complexities of the forward pass.

"Donovan McNabb is doing the things Donovan McNabb does."
Oh, I thought he was doing the things Brett Favre does.

"The Rams better block that Warren Sapp guy."
Quick, send this to the Rams coaching staff. They may not have thought about it.

"Boom!"

Wasn't John Madden the one who said, "there are three things you don't want to be in football.....Slow....Small.....and Friendly!" ;D ;D    Love that one but most of of the time, he sounds like an idiot!!

footballfan413;
Very funny! I'm still laughing.

Here's another one from our man Madden:
"And he just scored a touchdown...adding 6 points...which is much better than a 3 point field goal..."
You think he might be related to Yogi Berra?

When possible, I turn down the volume on the tv and listen to the radio broadcast of the game he's covering.

Red and Purple.....your response was excellent.  You've stated the problems that we have in the football world when it comes to measuring performance.

If you have a real interest in this sort of thing, there are some websites I can steer you to where topics like this are discussed in perpetuity, albeit with an emphasis on pro football.   E-mail me privately, though.   I don't want to be like Ted Stryker on those "Airplane" movies of 25 years ago, where the person he dumped his story on would up committing suicide....too many indepth statistical discussions would be much like that ;D ;D

Not hoping for a Mulligan but a "Do-Over" would be nice................ LOL......;D ;D

Well, you might just get that in Salem. I think UW-W returns a squad that is very capable of returning to the Stagg Bowl. But it will be a very different task this year coming in as one of the favorites instead of a new challenger.

Wow! I'm impressed you worked in a reference to the movie "Airplane". The original movie it was based on was "Zero Hour" starring Dana Andrews. In the 1957 film, a DC-4 passenger airplane runs into trouble during a rainstorm on route to Vancouver after pilots ate the contaminated fish dinner. Dana Andrews as Ted Stryker is a WWII single engine fighter pilot who takes over the controls.
Thanks for the offer, but I'll just stick to reading and posting here.

Desert Cat 1

If it is the game everone says it is why not share? I have tapes of a lot of games.  Need one?

"The 2005 Stagg Bowl" comes to mind. I'll trade you a copy?

I did purchase the Linfield video (passed all the tests for that one) and was a fun tape to watch. No secrets there. I am sure if LK wanted a copy he wouldn't be calling me to get it. Am I really that connected? WOW.

He ain't heavy LK's my brother! (You know tune) sing a long.

Criswyly

Send me the questionaire...bloods on the way.

Raider:
You will have to ask the ncaa why not film to everyone..
No cat in his right mind would give you or any other Raider that film.   :o  But I will take any film you want to send me.. ;D Just think about what you are asking?  ::)

Now, Criswyly on the other hand is  a ture blue cat man.  Send me an e-mail  I can point you in the right direction... :-*

DenS - I think it was pretty clear you were being provocative in your question on YAC. I have no guess what it could have been. Okay, I do: A LOT. But, I'll tell you that in talking with people during and after games the last two seasons, that question came up numerous times, maybe in part because we knew we would never hear an official stat on it.

By the way, I'm surprised you haven't tried Cialis by now. Isn't that stuff supposed to give you a 24 hour present? Sort of the equivalent of having the twins around for an entire day.  :P
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

How true!!!   The Cats have first hand experience with the "bulls eye," effect that the Hawks will have to deal with this season.  Everyone will be gunning for them and they must also navigate that pesky WIAC as well as stay healthy.  Long time until December!

Just a quick question.
Is there any copies of the Linfield vs Whitewater playoff game available?
I bought your highlight video but I would sure like to see the whole game if someone has a copy.
I don't expect it free so let me know a cost if available.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear of your loss but I am sure the program is in good hands. I know what it would do to our program if LK was leaving. JUMP!!

Go Raiders!

Raiderguy:  Shall we send that  film to LK"S OFFICE...  come on , go fish in another hole..   lol  ;D

Go Cats

LK already has that film.  Courtesy of the NCAA as the playoff film exchange is the 3 previous games before the one played that week.  So WWW got MUC versus Capital, Augustana and Mt St Joe.  And MUC got WWW against Linfield, SJU and whoever.  The semi-final games are not available for the Stagg film exchange because of the timing.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Cut City

One more thought on the YAC debate. How many times did teams play the cat receivers way off the LOS, begging for us to throw the quick pass and make a play after that? It wasn't that Elliot and co. couldn't go deep when given the chance. Most teams would rather not duplicate the highlight tape put together on Occidental two years in a row.

Ah yes, some good ones, and Madden has had his share of them over the years.

However, my all-time favorite is by Dan Dierdorff (sp?), who was gushing over Don Shula during a Monday Night Miami game. They show a close up of Shula on screen and Dan blurts out:

"And that man, looks like no one else, other than Don Shula."

???  ;D  ???

He stunned Al Michaels into a good four seconds of stone silence with that one.
{Clever sign-off goes here.}

I'm not sure that anything that Mount Union or Linfield was doing in the playoffs was any secret to anybody.  Not real sure what LK could learn from that tape other than we had absolutely zero run game...

"Let's see...what's this going to be...???.......PAAAAAASSSSSS!! :o

Linfield's passing game worked best for them.

"Airplane" references always work....

One of my favorites...

Rumack: You'd better tell the Captain we've got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital.

Elaine Dickinson: A hospital? What is it?

Rumack: It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Or this one...

Roger Murdock: Flight 2-0-9'er, you are cleared for take-off.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: L.A. departure frequency, 123 point 9'er.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Victor Basta: Request vector, over.
Captain Oveur: What?
Tower voice: Flight 2-0-9'er cleared for vector 324.
Roger Murdock: We have clearance, Clarence.
Captain Oveur: Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Tower voice: Tower's radio clearance, over!
Captain Oveur: That's Clarence Oveur. Over.
Tower voice: Over.
Captain Oveur: Roger.
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: Roger, over!
Roger Murdock: What?
Captain Oveur: Huh?
Victor Basta: Who?

"Airplane" dialogue beats Hamm's beer talk, FWIW....
