Ralph - I would recommend going to Aledo (15 miles west of FW on IH20) and watching 4A Aledo play 5A Weatherford at Aledo's new stadium.  A town of less than 2000 has a brand new stadium this year that holds over 6 or 7 thousand I believe.  It starts Friday night at 7:30, Aledo has a few will be seniors who have already committed to DI programs (Texas), not sure about Weatherford.  This is on the way to Abilene and would provide a much better game.
Welcome to Texas High School Football. ::)

Wait until you see the size of the bands at halftime. :o

Aledo HS has officially 1298.5 students in the top 4 grades (9-12). (That is the number of students that the school district gets to budget for.  Where 0.5 student can mean a couple of thousand dollars, they add up quickly!   :D  )  Aledo has had a good program and have a cool logo for their Bearcat mascot.

How many is Aledo HS marching these days?  250? plus a drill team of 50 and 20 flag bearers?

Abilene Wylie (Class 3A) will host the Graham Steers  on Friday September 15.   Kickoff at 7:30.  The stadium is in the Southwest part of town.  Graham's Coach is the father of Colt McCoy who will probably be the starting QB for the University of Texas.  He has a brother that is a wide out for Graham.  Both schools have a long tradition of winning and usually have a very good game.

Abilene Cooper is out of town and Abilene High is hosting Mesquite (East Dallas), which could also be a good game.

I have also watched Aledo play in the past and they are usually a very good team.  I would go with the Abilene Wylie/ Graham game.

Abilene has a neat downtown area with http://www.frontiertexas.com -- A Western Museum...I have been there once and it was well worth it.

Ditto on the Frontier Texas!!!

It is definitely worth the 2 hours you can easily spend.  The History Department and the McWhiney Foundation at McMurry were consultants.  It describes the Texas Frontier from 1780 to 1880, before the railroad came thru.

I've heard that only two sports matter in Texas.

Football and spring Football.

spiritof86,

Looks like a friend and I might be heading to the lone star state after all. It's been a long time since I took a vacation. With all thats going on, my Fathers health and so on,( thanks to everyone for the E-mails), I think a trip to watch The Cats Play in the land of Football might be in order. ( I say that because when you have a town of 2000 and a High School stadium that seats 5000+, That must be Football country.) :D

Anyway, E-mail me If you would with Itinerary. The more the mirier I hope.
I'll keep in touch!

Thanks for sharing the news link with us.  I really enjoyed reading it and you should be a very proud dad.  He sounds like a terrific young man and I believe I owe him as he was the one who helped you with my gift last year if I am correct.   Tell him congrats and I wish him the best and hope his team has a great season.

That the same thing I heard about Northwest Regional football!

:)

We all love it!

Congrats to the NWC group for page 500! I have always wanted to be a part of an historic event.

I know I need a life.

Things are quite on the OAC board. We have little to look forward too again this year  ;) ;) ;)

We don't have salmon but I think there is a guppie run on the Mahoning River in my home town. It is the only river where your fish will already be cooked when you pull it in the boat. They kind of have a green glowing charactic to them too. :P
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

raiderguy, + karma for you! and everyone on the 500th page! You to Dens! :D

I got a good laugh from your post.  Green glowing pre- cooked guppies?

I've seen some strange looking  fish in the Willamette River, but can't top that! I think I'll stick with  Salmon!

Mrs. coco, I think I just heard coco yell FISH ON!!! ;D
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

I hope it's not to late for an ASC and SCAC board follower to be on the NWC 500th page.  You guys are great to keep up with !!
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

I hope this gets on page 500 so I can get some + karma. However, if it's the 1st one on page 501 does that deserve + karma?   :)

you get + karma from me and I wish your team a great year.

I know the salmon are big in Alaska but the Taimen is the largest of the salmon family. They are so big that if that bear on the old Hamms beer commercial tried to catch one it would pull him in. ;D
