RedandPurple,

I'll give it a go on a couple of those.

Ken Stabler was The Snake.
Bob Hayes was Bullet.
Red Grange was the Galloping Ghost. That's going way back.
I'm guessing Warren Moon for Bad Moon.
Lance Alworth was Bambi. He was something else.
Night Train Lane played for the Lions. I think his first name was Dick. He could intercept anything thrown.
Carl Eller, a Purple People Eater, was Moose.

I paid my dues in the Bay Area during the Brodie era as well....Remember that game the 49ers whooped the Packers after Green Bay had already claimed their division title?....Circa 1966...Pre SuperBowl Days.

"Prime time" is Neon Deon Sanders, quite possibly the best athlete ever.

"Iron Head," is Craig Hayward, one of the best blocking backs of all time, played with the Saints.

"Bad Moon" is Andre Rison, very good receiver for the Falcons.

"The Nigerian Knightmare" is Christian Okoye, played with the Cheifs.  Kind of a two year wonder.

I think Coco covered the rest.

Iron Head Hayward was also the studliest running back in TecmoBowl 2 (or 3) :)

Oh, and the Nigerian Nightmare came out of Azusa Pacific of the NAIA (as you all know I'm sure)!

The Assasin was Jack Tatum. He even titled his book, "They Call Me Assasin".

I liked some of the names that used to be given to defenses. coco already mentioned The Purple People Eaters. How about the Orange Crush, The Monsters of the Midway, The NY Sack Exchange, The Doomsday Defense, The Steel Curtain, The No Name Defense, The Feasome Foursome. Any others? Extra points for the names of the members of these Ds.  ;D

Right on.  I knew you would get it out of anybody.  At that time we lived in Dublin Calif.  I was out at a local pub one night and he came in with Howie and some other Raiders and sat at the bar right next to me.  A frickin huge guy.  Alot of the Raiders and Raiderette's hung in the Dublin area at the time.  Madden and his wife even ran a pub in the area. (imagine that)

What high-school did Mike Munz play for?

Feeley was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles, by the way.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Good Morning GHC.  Now I think I know where the great Longies come from.  Too many nights at a pub in Dublin.  Spent some time there mayself (Dublin that is).  Our office at the time was not too far from there.   What pub do you speak of?  I am not really suprised that Madden ran a pub at all, but the Raiderettes sure sound ok.  Are you sure the huge guy that sat down next to you was not one of the Raiderettes.  Sometime too much Grog will do that to a person.

Hope to see you some the 9th.  If you make it down early to stay with WC11 you know where everyone will be at!

Hope everything is good in GH.  I know the Cats did the scheduling just for you this year.  Two short drives = More Longies and quicker to get  home.

Not only did Feeley sign, he got a two year deal.

Which could be bad news for Jeff Garcia....it already is bad news for Koy Detmer, who was released.   Maybe Garcia is the guy the Chargers are looking at.

FWIW, the San Diego at San Francisco game is going to be shown live on NFL Network, channel 212 on Directv.  If you don't have it.....well, as they say in some parts, "go git it".    I don't know how NFL network is handled on cable systems...mostly because I've been a satellite guy for 21 of the past 23 years.  But even if you have to upgrade and dig into the wallet a bit, NFL Network will have exclusive late season games after Thanksgiving.   And the other programming makes the network a good value if you do have to pay for it.

Otis Sistrunk...
Now there was a handsome devil. Whatever happened to him? Does anyone know?

Otis Sistrunk...
Now there was a handsome devil. Whatever happened to him? Does anyone know?

Otis Sistrunk was a defensive lineman who played seven seasons professionally from 1972 to 1978. He played his entire career with the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League. Sistrunk later became a professional wrestler (in the National Wrestling Alliance). He also appeared in three films in the 1970s.

Sistrunk was one of the few NFL players of his day to not play college football, going directly from high school to the semi-pro Continental Football League in 1965. After three years in the CPFL, a Los Angeles Rams scout spotted Sistrunk and believed the 22-year-old could play in the NFL; eventually Sistrunk wound up in Oakland.

During a Monday Night Football telecast, a television camera beamed a sideline shot of Sistrunk's steaming bald head to the nation. That, along with his lack of a college education, prompted ABC commentator and ex-NFL player Alex Karras to suggest that Otis' alma mater was the "University of Mars." Sistrunk was named to the Pro Bowl in 1974.

Since leaving football, Sistrunk has fashioned a second successful career as an Army civilian employee. Today, he runs Cowan & Memorial Stadium at Fort Lewis, Washington.
