Oline,

I don't envy you people down there having to deal with Ernesto, especially during the first game of the season.  Good luck.

We already lost one of our best receivers.  our middle linebacker hit him breaking a rib and lacerating a kidney.  Now we'll be lucky if we don't have to swim on McDaniel's field.  I got out of my car at the shopping center today and my umbrella lasted a nanosecond.  But, hey, I had to get the brownie supplies so I trudged on.  Think dry and positive thoughts tomorrow, please!!  Now if I could only find the lucky blanket that the kids expect me to sit on at the game.  Where could I have put it?
Oh and Mount Union has arrived in Averett where the field is a mudhole.  I expect that to be a massacre, mud wrestling style.
I know it's hard to wait another week to see your guys demolish an opponent, but I would gladly wait another week to avoid this awful weather.  The last time we had rain like this, there was major flooding.  The river behind campus rose up to the buildings.  It flooded the football field totally and the baseball field.  We had propane tanks  clanging all night and students who thought it was cool to dive in all that water    Today we have a huge stadium with seats where all that water was.  Hopefully it won't happen this time. Say hey to Mrs. Coco. I'll try to write her tonight as well.

I'm not sure you will get it in Portlnd. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It is on the bay area CBS station and the local UPN where I live, an hour and a half east of SF.

Finallly get to see a live game tomorrow. McMurry at Menlo. It's not Linfield, but it is D-III football!! ;D

Cam,
I think if you read that a little more carefully it is saying that Alex smith might only get one series.  I think that it mentions that Brett will see significant playing time tonight.

Here's the quote:
"San Diego also will give valuable playing time to backup quarterbacks Charlie Whitehurst and Brett Elliott, the two rookies who will back up the inexperienced Rivers this season.
Elliott played at Utah with San Francisco's Alex Smith, who might get just one series in the exhibition finale. Though the 49ers' defense has struggled in the preseason, Smith feels confident in the improvement of an offense that finished last in the NFL last season."

The "...one series..." reference is definitely aimed towards Alex Smith, not Brett Elliott.
Sure wish I could watch this, but I'll be checking the live updates on the web.

Good luck to Brett and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for him Saturday night!  Of course, it will be while I am watching the Warhawks make a fish sandwich out of the Lakeland Muskies and after some terrific tailgating!!  The only remaining "cupcake" left on their non-conference schedule.  Sorry you guys have to wait for one more week to "Get it Started."  I'll be thinking of you all while I am tailgating and remembering your great hospitality and BBQ we had at the Cat Dome last year.  The best of luck to the Cats this season unless they play the Hawks!!   :) :) :)

This post got me a smite?? ???  Must be a Muskies poster!! ;D ;D or GHC!   ;)
I just gave you an applause for just being you!!!  Enjoy the tailgating as BC will be playing in Tropical storm Ernesto.  I'll be a drowned rat but a drowned rat with brownies :) :) :)  Good luck to the Cats and to the Hawks, they both wear one of my favorite colors:  the royal purple

+karma right back at you, O-Mom!  Keep safe and try to keep dry this weekend!  Atleast this storm is named after a male......you know what a bitch the last storm was. ;) ;) Good luck to the Eagles!

Thanks!  I have to think it might be a good omen since our mascot is Ernie the Eagle --  Ernesto, but it is really coming down.  When you are supposed to be quick, wet fields are not your best friend.  Somebody was saying that the Green Terrors (yeah, that's really their name) have installed a 3 quarterback offense.  Sounds like too many chiefs and not enough Indians.  Oops I guess I'm not being politically correct, but don't you think 3 QB on the field at the same time is unusual?  They mostly come with egos.  I can hear it now.  I'll take it, no, let me, no it's my turn.  What will the fullback think.  There has to be at least 1 blocker in the backfield. (And I'm hoping it'll be Craig, our middle linebacker, tee hee!)  Well, if I can see the game through the fog I'll let you know.

Whitehurst started as QB and just got called for intentional grounding.  "We want a new QB, right?"

Whitehurst gets a TD pass.

Does Direct TV have Keena Turner doing color? I've been watching him for a few years now on 49er preseason. He just doesn't impress me.

OregonCityCat99

we are getting the 49ers feed.

Any good predictions for the WOU/Willamette game tomorrow??

From the (San Diego) North County Times on line comment center regarding Charger Qb situation:

QuoteLarry wrote on August 30, 2006 4:40 PM: "Elliott is the real deal guys. Saw him the last 2 years light up everyone. If he gets a look, he will surprise you"
Now, let's see.....who named Larry would have seen the last two years games? There's a guy with a big dog named Larry down there in Leucadia. No, couldn't be him. Doesn't travel. There's Larry the Lip hiding out in La Costa, Naw. Perhaps a jarhead in boot camp at Pendleton. I dunno. Anybody else wonder?

Elliott is in!!!
First play is a run.
Mention is made of big yardages at D-III Linfield.

Brett takes a snap!

Brett's first pass is a bit high but catchable and dropped. Looked better than most of Whitehurst's. ;D
