Hard to say camcat. Do the Bolts grab someone off waivers? Do they only keep 2 QBs? I don't think he hurt his cause. As I said earlier, I haven't been impressed by Whitehurst, but Schottenheimer likes him. We'll see tomorrow.

"See" you all later. Noon kickoff tomorrow! ;D

I watched Brett play tonight and it's too hard to say where he'll be in 24 hours.  I'm pulling for him.  He made some nice throws but lacked some of the accuracy he was known for with the Cats and was not able to put it into the endzone from the redzone twice.  However, he did not screw up any of the plays and had a nice stretch after the 1rst pick where things were clicking.  And, Whitehurst also threw 2 picks so I don't think the INTs should be too much of ding on Brett.  We'll just have to wait and see!...
Go Cats!

Think Brett showed why he is still hanging around. One way or the other  he played well enough to play another day, but where will it?

I am not very optimistic about him making the regular season roster but am not sure he'll clear waivers and sign as a backup with SD.

Wildcat'64

I watched the game as  well and thought Brett held his own with Whitehurst.  Couple of plays the receivers simply should have caught the ball and he would have had even better stats.
It's a tough call but I think he just might have a shot at making the cut because he clearly showed this evening that he had the talent to play in the NFL.

Let's all wish Brett well tomorrow as the final cut comes down!

Congratulations to Brett Elliot on his NFL debut...GoElliot...The WildcatExtension
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Brett just made ESPN Sports Center....well kinda. They showed two plays from the game, a Whitehurst interception (tipped, juggled, picked) and then they went to a 4th quarter play where Brett rolls out and hits the tight end with a pass, and the tight end gets TATTOOED!

No mention by name, though. But for the 7 seconds they showed he looked good!

Are you ready for some...post patterns?

While the LINFIELD jersey may not be in the d3football.com banner any more this  ;) did not go unnoticed on the front page recently:

A nod and a wink to a River Rat and the Twins, I surmise.

That same TE was the target of the pass that wound up as Elliotts 2nd INT. BE fired a bullet toward him at the goal line, but the TE must have heard footsteps, because he hesitated, the ball was tipped and then picked off in the back of the endzone.

Just reviewed the TiVo of the second half.   I think you guys are reading waaaaay too much into the game and how Whitehurst looks, etc.    This season is being made on the basis of everyday practice and not on as much as what is done during a preseason game.    It's kind of interesting to read that a few of you guys haven't been impressed with Whitehurst....obviously the SD coaches have been impressed by him since they just gave a veteran a pink slip .....as in much better than what they thought they drafted in the third round.    Lets' be a little more objective.....

None the less, the most important thing to consider in all of this is that Brett was playing with guys who for the most part, aren't going to make the team.  Of all the guys Brett was in the huddle with last night, Brett just might have the best chance to survive today.

Until then.....lay low and stay away from the Turk!

From the NFL wire:

Rivers' absence allowed the Chargers to give valuable playing time to backup quarterbacks Charlie Whitehurst and Brett Elliott, the two rookies who will back up the inexperienced Rivers this season.

"The first thing we set out to do was to give some of these young players an opportunity, particularly these quarterbacks, to see exactly where they are at this point," Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer said.

The Chargers waived A.J. Feeley earlier in the week, leaving them with three quarterbacks who have zero NFL starts and one touchdown pass among them. They have groomed Rivers to take over since using a first-round pick on him in 2004.

Whitehurst threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Malcolm Floyd in the first quarter but was intercepted twice and finished 5-for-9 for 52 yards.

Elliott also was intercepted twice and finished 5-for-10 for 46 yards.

Dang it, I had a nice post last night and the system swallowed it, went down, and I of course lost the post.

I saw the game at a bar while waiting for my wife and daughters to get out of a concert and didn't catch the game until about 3 or 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately, there was really loud, bad country music and zero volume on the tube, so I didn't get to hear any of the commentators' analysis and comments.

Overall, IMHO, I thought Brett looked pretty good out there. I didn't see his first interception, and it's too bad the stats sheet says he had two. I couldn't quite tell from the 2nd interception--did his man fall down or did Brett throw it behind him? It then of course bounced off the one 49er for an easy pick by the guy in the endzone. Too bad. But could someone clarify for me whether the WR fell down or if the error was on Brett?

When I tuned in, he was handing off a lot (seemed smooth, good play action), and was hitting some underneath stuff, some screens, and that one to that hapless tight end who probably left the game thinking he was either Batman or still in Toledo.

I thought Brett looked confident, knew how to run the offense, didn't melt in the face of a big rush, didn't seem fazed by the national spotlight, and actually knew where his receivers were. That says a lot. I have seen a lot of kids from far bigger schools just lose it in the big league. Will he make the cut? I don't know. But his confidence and coolness impressed me.

What was REALLY cool, was just seeing him out there. He's living the dream. He's out there with the pros and granted, like LBC said, most those guys won't make it but it was just really heartwarming to see the kid doing what he loves and what he's dreamed of.

I don't know if he'll make the cut or not. I hope so. Right now, my money is on that he will. Unless they sign an experienced veteran--and even then I think he'll make practice squad. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.
{Clever sign-off goes here.}

That's all any of us can do, is keep our fingers crossed, but I sure hope he gets a chance to keep going. Thanks for the updates from the game that you guys posted.
