Greetings, Linfield fans.  Among other things, I cover Texas games for d3football.com with my camera.  After the games, usually on Monday or Tuesday, the images I shoot are available to be viewed and/or purchased by fans, parents and players under the "Photo Galleries" link on the front page of this site.

I'll be at the HSU-Linfield game this weekend, and hope that you'll check out the photos after the game.  If there are any Linfield parents or players with special requests, please contact me offline and I'll do my best to accommodate them.  They'll also be available under the "Photo Galleries" link with the other images after the game.

Please stop by and say "hi" as well.  It will be nice to meet some of the folks that are also long-time posters at the game.  And did I mention the photos?  :)  Be sure to check them out!

Where can I go in Abilene to get some of that great Texas BBQ I've heard so much about?

I actually live 2 hours away from Abilene so I'm not privy to the special places that only the locals know about.  Post this over in the ASC section and some of those guys can fill you in.  I will say that the Texas Roadhouse is excellent.  It is on the South loop.  We ate there last weekend and it was great!!!  Good steakhouse.  My wife and I will be cooking up some fajitias pregame in the visitor's side parking lot.   Homemade tortillas.  You will have to look for us and come over and get a taste.

The word is the locker room right now to "improve fundalmentals." You block your man (zone) consistently, you win. You tackle your man consistently, you win. The team that doesn't  block or tackle very well, 99% of the losses. Coaches and players alike know that.

Go CATS! Unleash!

"Football is two things, blocking and tackling." Vince Lombardi

Too true.

Talked to my father-in-law, a former cat and HS head coach, and he's feeling a bit better about the game but he said the same thing Classic Cat did about blocking and tackling. That's got to be improved.

Didn't the Cats go through a spat of a game or two early in the season about three or four years ago when the D was porous and had a real hard time tackling?  As I recall, in addition to better tackling fundamentals, they got that corrected by staying in their lanes and learning to rely on their fellow D to help tackle. That and not trying to tackle so higHopefully, as the team gains confidence in each other and the coaches' scheme, they'll get that corrected too.

One thing LC football teaches is that each man does his job.  Offense, defense, and ST all do their jobs.  No one needs to be a superman out there to beat HSU just each man doing his job and believing the guy next to you will do his.  Linfield at many positions is still very young, it might have taken a loss to WOU to get them to figure things out.
Lop the head off!!!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Anybody making the trip to Texas this weekend?  I actually considered getting last minute plane tickets to go out and support the Cats but my wife nixed the idea seeing as it was gonna end up being like a $1,000.  weekend for as she put it, "just a football game".  Oh well, we can listen on the net right?  :)
Go Cats!

With the Chargers 27 to Zip victory over the Raiders last night it doesn't look like Elliott will be playing anytime soon with the way Philip Rivers must have played if he stays healthy. He apparently didn't do much except hand off the ball and let the running backs and the defense do it's job...

With an RB like Tomlinson, I could probably QB the Chargers.  ::)

If it'd make you feel any better, I could charge you $900 for an internet connection. That way, you can tell the wife you saved $100.

Seems to me they use that line when they come home with new shoes...  ;)

One thing I've learned over the years about Linfield Football; Trust the coaches and the players. I have complete confidence in both.

Zmotion10 out on 2...so what is the difference between Texas A&M Kingsville and Texas A&I Kingsville? On WOU's website it lists the game being with A&M...did they change their name or are you refering to 2 different schools? I think they are the same school but changed their name recently to A&M from A&I?

Thanks for the detailed info Foss!

When do the 'cats leave for Texas....is it Friday? I took a look in the 2006 Linfield Football Media Guide produced by the talented Sports Info Director Kelly Bird. From what I read it sounds as though HS is kind of rebuilding also this year. They had to replace all 4 starting linebackers, have a couple qbs in the mix and are fairly young at dbs, etc. Sounds as though they have a few running backs in the mix and usually have an All-American on the O-Line. Should be a barn burner!

Same school.  They were Texas A&I for so long I still call them that.  The correct name is Texas A&M - Kingsville.  I saw them play two years ago in the playoffs.  They had a very good defense with a heck of a running game.  They are located in very far South Texas but we have a lot of division II schools here.  They are all part of the Lone Star Conference which makes up Texas and Oklahoma.  (I live in Texas but very close to the OK border).  There are about 5 D-II schools within 2 hours of my location so I get to see a lot of these teams play.

They are all quality teams but Texas A&M Kingsville has been the creame of the crop for a long time.

roocru

Zmotion,
A&M Kingsville is actually part of the Southland Conference now.  The Lone Star Conference is still around but the makeup of both these confeerences has changed over the past few years.

I dont know about you guys but every time i think about wildcat football i think about the sideline reminders.  Crazy how something sticks in your head for the rest of your life....
Talk about a cool feeling end of pre game practice.  everyone on the same page believing, and in unison (sp?) spouting the words...
gives me chills to hear the words....
Dont give up on the cats yet........long season, and everyday, sure is a good day to be a wildcat!!!

How do we substitute:  "Hustle on, hustle off, call the mans name."
Everybody in the ballgame, Offense: "Right"  Defense: "Left" Special teams: "In the middle"
Punt and punt return ready to go on: "3rd down."
Unusual formations: "Take a look at them and call time out."
Time outs per half: "3 save one for thelast play of the half."
Who can call a time out: "Any player," What do they have to do: "Sprint to the nearest official and call time out."
Kicking game rules: 1) "Don't be off sides" 2) "don't rough the kicker" 3) "dont block below the waist" 4) "dont clip" 5) "catch the ball"
Goaline defense: 1) "attitude!!!!"  2) "create a line of scrimmage two yards deep, get up and play football"  3) they will not score on the: "run"  if they pass it must be: "over the top"
Goaline offense: 1) "attitude!!!"  2) "create a line of scrimmage two yards deep"
3) "sustain!!!"

Ummmmm, HSU has an all-american caliber candidate in his 6th year in the system (after a medical redshirt) at qb. He is a dual-threat and one of the 'cats biggest problems this weekend.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.
