Final Call of the week.

Cats are a +30 in this one boys

No respect for the Cowboys?  This game makes me nervous but by a loss by 30 points.  Not that nervous.  This should be a close game with the winner having to earn every bit of it.

I witnessed a game during Wildcat11's days when a 6-0 PLU team came to town with tons of weapons.  The Cats destroyed them.

Thats why we play the game boys.

Yep. Nothing kills like over confidence, with the possible exception of zero confidence.

I don't know about the +30 but the enthusiasm is great!

I think the Cats will be back on track this week. My predicition for a key to victory is the O-line. They have to bounce back with a vengeance. If they do, we'll be okay.  I think they took it hard last week, and my guess is they'll come out to prove themselves. But HS's D-line is no slouch. They went up against a huge UWSP O-line (6-7/299, 6-4/307, 6-4/267, 6-4/289, and 6-7/302) and still managed three sacks.

Time to test the mettle.

I feel that proper play selection will take care of an over agressive D-line.  I would expect more screen action or shotgun formation to handle the adjustments for our O-line

Gig Harbor Cat

My post is not about HSU at all, its about getting fired up about the REAL Cats showing up tomorrow.  My point is that on any Sat it can be a +30 surprise if you don't pay attention.

Been there done that

If you dont want to play the game just  PICK A SCORE AND PHONE IT IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just an observation: The Cowboys had trouble between the tackles against SP.  The Pointers did have a very good line and even though the Cowboys won that game it did cause me some concern thinking about some of the hard running teams we face down the line.  Once the Pointers were so far behind they had to throw more but for a while they were controlling the line.  So Cats Fa Natic I think you have something in your post.  There will be some very key battles up front.

Good post Cats Fa Natic.

I don't disagree entirely, Z, but the size of the Linfield O-Line isn't the same as the size of the UWSP line.  I think what we'll see is a game played with speed and quickness from both teams, rather than the big Hogmollies grinding it out, that many of the Wisconsin schools--including SP have.

The quickness and agility of the lines will be paramount in either team being able to establish a consistent offensive attack.

Thanks, I appreciate that. The sacks that the Cowboys did get, would you say it was more from pressure off the ends, coverage sacks, UWSP just start getting tired, or something else? You can only tell so much from stats.

Just FYI, here's how the two lines measure up:

UWSP O-line (LT to RT): 6-7/299, 6-4/307, 6-4/267, 6-4/289, and 6-7/302
CATS O-Line (LT to RT): 6-4/280, 6-6/310, 6-2/265, 6-0/260, and 6-3/260

UW is bigger but we're no skinny minnies

That's not what I meant, by any stretch, Fa Natic.  Just that there wasn't as big of a dispairity than against UWSP, that's all.  I think a couple of the weight listings on HSU's two-deep for the DL are a little off, but they've almost always had smaller, quicker defensive fronts.

Reggie Robinson from HSU at the end position is as quick as I've seen at this level, and he accounted for two sacks against UWSP.  Any OT will likely find it difficult to beat him one-on-one without good technique and some  good play calling by the offensive coordinator.  Reggie missed all of last season, but was a first team d3football.com All American in 2004.

Chris Johns is a load in the middle, and is typically a bull rusher-type defensive lineman.  He's the biggest and strongest defensive lineman HSU has.

Hope that helps a little.

From my distant observations only, Linfield's offensive attack has always seemed to be predicated on speed and quickness, as well as having good athletes at the skill positions AND on the O-Line.  Is this on target?

I think your read is correct for Linfield in recent years (certainly during the last 2 years).  I do remember years when the Cats played a pound it out, strength based game though.
Go Cats!

I think, in the past, Linfield always took advantage of a defenses' weakness.  They did a VERY good job of scouting and finding a weak spot.  Then they attacked.  But in the past couple of years they have been, well, more "offensive".  They have adopted a style of offense that goes right at the defense and forces them to react.

I'm not sure if the recent offensive philosophy was based on the athletes (speed and quickness) or if it was based on a desire of the coaches to do something different.

What I do know is that Linfield has always done and excellent job of coaching and making sure the team was ready on gameday.

Josh pretty much summed up our line.  Robinson will get a sack or two every game (IMO).  He is just very, very quick.  He uses his hands well and can run down a QB.  The first game was the first time that I had seen him play and he did receive a lot of press before the season and it was all warranted.  The guy is a major player.   But #1 is even more of an impact player.  He is a threat to score any time he has the ball from anywhere on the field.  Which is why he returns punts, kickoffs and any other time he can get the ball.   I just can't wait to get this game underway.
