Did anyone catch the Monday Night game?

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!   ::)
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

I would like to see a camera angle that was in line with where the ball was touched on that onside kick. All the ones shown on TV have been at an angle. I remember after the "Music City Miracle" when the Tennessee Titans won dramatically on a backwards lateral over the Buffalo Bills everyone was saying it was a forward pass, and the views shown on TV did kind of look that way. Then sometime later there was a shot directly in line with the pass that showed it was indeed a backwards lateral. I'm not saying the kick did travel 10 yards, but I would like to see it from the correct angle.

cawcdad – not a big deal, but the Pirates play on the road this week.

MonroviaCat, I agree with all your picks, but I must admit I am only going with a close Whitworth win because they are a NWC team, otherwise I would say that game is a 50/50 proposition.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

OOPS! :-[ How could I do that? Whit close on the road.

Foss,
I was reading on the oregonlive site,  John canzano interviewed the replay official who said he was not given all the shots that ABC was showing. If so his decision might have been different. "I didn't get the job done" he said.  Also he has been getting threatening phone calls.

I too would like another angle, but reporters,  and at least the U. of Oklahoma President says the Duck touched it early. Think money plays a part in College sports when the College Pres. gets involved. $$ (I was wondering if Mr. Magoo was in the Booth) he said.

Anyway as I said before, If your going to look at that call, look at all of them! Each, in it's own way could have an impact on the game.

No doubt money could be involved.  That could be 15 million dollar call if that ends up being their only loss.  They could still run the table in play in a BCS bowl but this hurts their prospects a bit with Texas looming.

I wonder how pathetic the lives are of people who actually take the time to send letters or voicemails that threaten the life of an official and his family because a call went against their team.

ESPN is reported that the Chargers long rumored deal to acquire Billy Volek from the Titans is all but complete...for a 6th round pick that can go to a 5th based on Volek's playing time.

Effect of Brett Elliott.....well, outside of two injuries or a team plucking Brett from the practice roster, it looks unlikely we'll see him on Sunday in uniform.

My only comments about officiating......inadvertant whistles are most embarrassing, to say the least.  But they happen....there was one in an NFL game last season.    And the Oklahoma--Oregon fiasco.....John Canzano's column in this morning's Oregonian brings a few points out that fans need to realize.  The stadium feed to the review official and the television feed are not the same feed for one.  I have met the replay official involved at clinics and I can assure you of his integrity.    I'll leave it there.   Anybody who wants to know more can talk with me privately.

Once Again, Karma to you and I have to go with your picks.  Last week we were only different on one pick so pretty close.  It seems you have a pretty good grasp on the NWC teams and keep up with the teams in the SCIAC, and the Minnesota and Wisconsin schools.  I would like to see L&C pull one out from Colorado College and I think they are capable, but we will see.

O.K. No Wildcat Football this weekend but here are my takes on the NWC action:

Whitworth vs. UW-Stout:  Hard to call with both teams looking pretty good in early action.  UW-Stout has the homefield advantage but I've gotta pull for Whitworth and NWC-:  Gonna make it a close call but I give Whitworth the win on the road 28-24

Willamette at Menlo:  Gotta believe that Willamette just doesn't have much this year and Menlo has been playing good defense.  Look for a relatively low scoring game here with Menlo winning it 21-7.

Pacific Lutheran and Chapman:  Another hard to call but Chapman actually hung close with Menlo while PLU has not been blown away.  Somebody has to win this one and I'm gonna have go to with tradition over the homefield advantage.  PLU beats Chapman 24-21.

Claremont-Scripps at Puget Sound:  Puget Sound controls the clock and remains consistent and wins 28-7 in this one.

Lewis and Clark at Colorado College:  I'd love to pull for L&C here but these two teams have both played the same 2 oponents and in both cases Colorado has the statistical edge.  That coupled with homefield advantage gives CC the win 35-21

I think that's it for the NWC this week:  What do you think guys?

After reading OregonLive, the Oregonian, Statesman Journal, I have a great idea if it has not been suggested.  Just do away with all appeals and instant replay.  It seems like the game was better when it was called ont he field.  Yes, automatic review may have overturned some calls, but for what purpose.  I think we are better off just letting the officials do their best to call a good game.  They all make mistakes, but if Oregon can have 4 turnovers to 0 for the Sooners and the sooners with 4 take aways still cannot seem to win the game I think there is more to it than the officiating.  Maybe Coach Stoops, the Players, and the fans should worry about what is coming up, not what is done.  I guess they feel it is always better to have an excuse.

Anyway, what is done is done and yes Oregon may have gotten away with a couple of bad calls, but bring the game back to the officials and do away with the replays and appeals.  And while I am at it do away with the terrible time clock rule.  It just screws up the game and allows the networks to squeeze in more commercials and add a few games now and then.  After all I doubt if they don't really care what the fans think.  Just One Mans Opinion!

Interesting replay of OU -UO onside kick.  At first glance it looks like OU player hit ball with helmet.  This is feed that booth official discussed.  All in all, it was an unfortunate blown call by officials.  This includes the recovery of the kick.  Whistle was blown too soon.

OldCatProf,
Are you golfing in a couple weeks?

Some have noted that "golfing" is often not very descriptive of the game I play. On the other hand, I prefer to observe that I am an "economic golfer." I maintain a very low cost-per-stroke.

KR, Elliott was cut the day after the last preseason game with the Niners and then signed to the practice squad the next day. I find it interesting that Volek didn't want to be #3 with the Ravens and that may be where he would wind up at SD.

Sorry to hear that, but at least he's still living the NFL dream in one form or another! Damn med school rotations are really starting to interfere with my post patterns reading. >:(

Images from the HSU/Linfield game are available to be viewed on the front page under the Photo Galleries link.  Check them out!

RedandPurple, it was very nice meeting you Saturday night.  It was my pleasure capturing moments from the game, and I had a lot of fun doing it.

Hope to see you all in McMinnville again next year!
