I know I said this before, but bye week sure does suck.  I like it when it's later in the season. Saturday would be a great day for football at the Catdome, and we could be talking about that.

Hell, we're practically exchanging recipes here, not that I don't enjoy food!

Hey is Lumpys is still around (in Newberg)?  I never made it in there but always thought it looked like your classic, road side local all night drinker's hang out (much like a place down the street from me called "The Drinker's Hall of Fame")

:)

Absolutely none of your favorite restaurants existed in my day at Linfield; there were no Mexican restaurants (no Mexicans); McDonalds did not exist. We were excited when Arctic Cirlce arrived. An Alf's existed, but it was more of an ice cream place. All we had was the Rocket Cafe, with their famous Rocket Burger, the Mac Y and Blue Moon taverns, and Shakeys, a pizza parlour. For out of town, we went to the Office tavern in Lafayette. Hate to admit it, but Dillin actually served decent food; we were served steaks every Saturday.

As for Wes Suan, he played for Ad in the early seventies and coached thereafter until he left for Hawaii. A great personality, actually did a lot of good with recruiting and getting good people into Linfield.

Back in my Linfield days in the 60's it was called the Hickory House, if my memory serves me, which it always does not do .  I remember going there a few times and it did have a raucaus reputation, either that or one of our wild fraternity brothers who went there a lot took his reputation with him and transformed the place to fit his persona. We are working hard to fill the bye week void aren't we.

Yeah, it was the Hickory House.

Has anyone ever been to the Someplace Else outside of Newberg? That looks like the worst dive I've ever seen from the outside.

And who remembers Peg and Dave's?

Yes and the pinball !

My Goodness!! I think my last quote created a monster.   :o All you guys are talking about is food ;D
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

Lumpy's has character.

FYI....the Someplace Else is technically just outside of Newberg.  That bridge on 99W is the town line.  From what I understand Newberg used to be a dry town so a bar was created just on the outskirts called....Someplace Else.  Proud to say I've never actually been there. :)

One of my favorite places to go when I was a student was the Ram in Salem.  We'd love to go there and mess with all the Bearkitties.  Fun times..

We used to go to Ye Ole Pizza in Newberg on Wed. Nights during the off-season and pound the huge $2.00 pitchers, and try to pick up on the George Fox ladies.  I had a few high school buddies that played baseball there, and due to the "Code of Conduct" policy they have, they would watch us get wasted.  There were a few nights we were lucky to be invited back.

PS...... The pizza is OK, it gets better as the night goes on!!

CalCat,

Yep. Peg and Dave's had pinball and bullet holes in the ceiling. Later it became the Pair-a-Dice, but still had the same amount of class.

There was also Max's/Westward Ho, another fine establishment where we enjoyed ourselves. Those were good times. I'd hate go to college in a dry town, like someone said Newberg was back in the day.  Monmouth used to be, too. Maybe it still is, but Independence is close enough.

Sorry about my absence from the boards. I missed last weeks predictions. I'll make up for it today.

Woooo!

Predictions time.....

Whitworth v. UW-Stout

This'll be a tough game for the Rats. Travelling always takes its toll, but this is a long trip for the Spokanians. They'll be run down.  UWS is decent, going 6-4 last year and starting this year 2-0. However, the Rats are contenders this year.  They'll get down early, but Joel Clark will bring 'em back from the brink.

Whitworth 35 - UWS 28

Willamette v. Menlo

Willamette's been poor this year, and got Menlo last year, but they won't again.  Menlo's 2-1, and look to be right in the thick of things. They're playing at Bearcatville, however, and Menlo has never travelled well in the past. I think the Bearcat's will pull out a squeaker.

W 14 - M 10

LCC vs. CC

The battle of the C's! Colorado College has been terrible for years, and I don't expect them to get any better anytime soon.  However, LCC is equally bad, and they're playing in that high altitude Denver dryness.  A close game without much defense.  Edge to CC.

CC 21 - LC 14

PLU v. Chapman

If PLU doesn't win this game, it'll be a sad sad day. Chapman hasn't posted a winning record in the last 5 years, and I expect the Lutes will have enough confidence to bring these guys down. However, the Lutes do travel, so the game will be closer than it should be.

PLU 21 - Chapman 14

UPS v. CMS

Claremont, for the past few years, has struggled when playing Puget Sound in the Northwest. With Puget Sound exorcising some demons two weeks ago with the defeat of La Verne, I expect big things out of this game. First game at home, starting a long home stand, and with a new, very supportive college crowd.  Ron Thomas (the president) will climb up to his booth and eat some popcorn as the Loggers decimate the Stags.

UPS 42 - CMS 14
(the 14 points of CMS will come late in the game)

After this week, I'm going to post my season preview, and really ruffle some feathers!

Coco, I know what you mean -- Central has a bye this week, too....for the rest of the IIAC, it turns out it's rivalry week. You 'Cat fans could do what we Central fans are going to do -- get up early and drink in the parking lot and talk about football anyway. :) OR...you could tavel to another game..... Hmm....

One correction hatchetman75, the Bearkitties are the ones on the road, travelling down to the ritzy 'burbs and tiny venue in the SF Bay area. I'll be at the game and report back.

Ah yes- ye olde pizza in Newberg. $2.00 pitchers cannot be beat.

Wes Saun was still a coordinator in the late 90's. Remember dive left, dive right, then have Nick Forsey run 2 yard out patterns? The offense was a bit hamstrung back then, but they still managed to get the job done.

Stanich's is great, but I prefer the one on the east side to the John's Landing location.

Do not get your hopes up in regards to Muchas- or get really drunk and then go at around 3:30am- then your expectations will probably be met.

DenS on time-out? how could anyone even decipher his pots???
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Nice call on Ye Old #72.  WC11...not the appropriate place for one of your favorite college stories you absolutely love to tell...I can see the wheels turning right now.  For those of you that know 11 intimately he will probably share in private.  Anyone for pepperoni pizza and a pitcher of Amberbock.

Very, very difficult to argue with the "D" as the best burger in town.  Nothing like Monday night $1 pint night during the entire game...thank god for late class on Tuesday's.

One of the classic locales that no one mentioned though is the Log Cabin.  Before that place burned down it was pretty darn good.  A burger as big as your head and a pile of fries piled on a medium size pizza platter.  In all the years I think I only saw one guy finish the whole thing and then eat the rest of the fries off my plate.

Oh to be 280lbs again.
