Wow, just got a chance to check in.  Listened to the second half of the Whitworth game while driving home and nearly drove off of the road too many times.

Credit to Stout for almost shutting out the Pirates, but more credit to Joel Clark for coming back from three picks deep in Stouts' end to drive the final 76 yards in 1:06 for the game tying touchdown.

Whitworth defense was outstanding, keeping the huge Devils in check and keeping the team in the game.

This has to be the biggest road win for the Pirates since getting the Lute Monkey off of their back in 2001.

Sounds like WU finally go the fly off the ground today.   8)
Just got back from the Menlo-WU game. I mentioned in an earlier post that Menlo's weakness on defense was against the pass. Well coach Speckman must have noticed it on film and the Bearcats came out throwing the ball. Menlo played about like they have played all year, which is not that bad. Much as it pains me to say this, Willamette is the best team Menlo has faced this year, and the Oaks went toe to toe with them. Actually lead most of the game.

The first 5 possesions resulted in scores. Menlo 21-14 at that point. I was wondering if anyone was going to play defense. After this both D's started to stiffen. The Bearcats recovered a fumble deep in Oaks territory and Menlo held them to a FG.

In the second half the Oaks got up by 11 but had some turnover that WU capitalized on. This also seemed to rattle the Oak QB and the WU defense started bringing almost everyone on every play. It worked. It was an exciting game. I also was impressed at how well Willamette traveled. They had as many folks there as Menlo and almost as many as Linfield had last year.

Pictures will be up in a little while.

Halftime score. Chapman 21 - PLU 13. Lutes score about 1 minute before the half.

Thanks, cawcdad. I've been watching OSU, and just came to see if there was a score on that game yet. Too bad for the Lutes.

Beavers are up 24-0.

Remember the talk on the board about Brian Nooy who left Idaho and was taking coarses at Ble Mountain community college and was hoping to be a wildcat this fall? Well he is playing QB at idaho. Just caught hin on the T.V. vs. the beavs.

Nooy wears #5

discovered some very unfortunate news from the injury front at Linfield.  A big change is coming this week.   :'( :-[
There's nothing like being a wildcat.  Some say they understand, but until you've lived it, you have no idea.

Let's not discover it for the rest of the world until the staff chooses to...sound good!??  ::)  It happened a almost a week ago.

4-1 on predictions. Not damn bad, although my scores were way off.

What a disappointing loss for PLU though. Chapman was a VERY beatable team. They couldn't even pull it out. Ugh.

Of course Puget Sound didn't put up the score I predicted, but it's been quite awhile since the defense threw a shutout.  180 games (back in 1986) since it happened.  Good things are rumbling in Tacoma.  Linebacker Steve Martin was an animal again, recording 9 tackles and 1.5 for loss.  Isaac Blum had a HUGE punt return TD and kudos to Mike Griffith for a blocked punt and Matt Vanek for an interception.

Puget Sound held Claremont to 80 yards rushing and 92 yards passing. Comparatively, PS had 172 yards rushing and 94 yards passing, with two passing tds. No turnovers, as far as I can tell.

Woo...makes me excited.

Good game for Whitworth. I knew it was going to be close for the Rats. Kudos to Willamette as well...where was the defense in that game?  LC....wow....what a stinker. Looks like they'll be checking out the bottom of the barrel this year.

I'm glad the Loggers didn't disappoint anybody this week.  PLU next....let the trash-talking commence!

:D

Just a note on Nooy,

First  series Fumble, second series Int. Came in after the starter had some trouble with the Beavers "D". Tough outing in Beaverland for the home state boy!

Sounds like next week will be a little more interesting than first thought, The Bearkittens got the fly's wings unstuck ,  at least until they come to the Catdome!!!!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

What happens on the practice field, stays on the practice field.
Not very original, but you get the point.
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!
