Great Job Cats!!![/b]

I'm happy :D for our skill people for they were able to perform as expected and acquire good results. But, let's give it up to the offensive and defensive lines.

As the offensive line goes, goes the Wildcats. They picked up right where they left off in Texas. And, they're getting better and better.

Everybody has their opinion about when the game turned in favor of the Cats. I say it was that tremendous three-play goal line effort put on by the defense. Although the kiddiecats scored, those three plays inside the 2-yard line developed a lot of confidence in our defense. Afterwards, they shut 'em down.

One game does a season not make, but the enthusiasm is back. Let there be joy in McMinnville tonight. Homecoming is again triumphant.

Ah.........not gonna run up the score.........I guess a 42-14 win is o.k. .....:)

I certainly wouldn't call it running up the score.  It was great to see so many players get into the game with about 8:00 minutes to play.  I can't say for sure but I think I counted 8 running backs who carried the ball.  Oh how sweet it was seeing some plays go to the Tight End when needed.  I was probably as suprised as the Bearkittens.  What can you say about Trevor.  A spectacular day, but would not have been possible if not for the line play.  Ketler scores 6 from the backfield.  What a thing of beauty.

A good job from the cats all the way around.  Bring on the Loggers.  They are ripe for another buzz saw job like they saw from the Lutes.

topcat1,

Thanks for the report. A little +k for you.  Though I was a no show again today I did listen on line.  Sounds like the Cats are back on track.  Trevor was a great surprise today. Granted this was Willamette but they played a great game and I think are well tuned for PSU next week.  If they keep playing like this we can go into the Whitworth game down the road and expect to get the best of the Rats with a good shot at starting from today going 7 and 0.  I haven't been on the board much lately so will sprinkle some holy water around while I'm here.

Did "64 behave himself today?  He was probably all smiles knowing that right after church tomorrow he can can go knock on a few doors and collect a few rent checks to pay for his trip.

Tawata, Tawata, Tawata. Think the 'cats found a leader on Defense. The guy was all over the place.

What were the final stats on Trevor? Didn't Trevor set a record in his first start with the longest touchdown pass in school history.

Congrats Lutes! I had no doubt you'd win.

'Cats have found themselves a QB.

Great job by the "Cats today and a huge sigh of relief coming from the Linfield faithful.  Let's build some momentum.

Just getting ready to head over to the Cat tailgate and know you won't get this until after the game, but hope everything is great at the Stone Station.  You can't go wrong with the cookies.  They are the best thing around (along with the brownies of course).   You are correct in telling GHC that Mrs Coco better bring some or we all know that the culprt will be CoCo himself.  He is always a smoothy for a sweet deal.  He did do a pretty good job of leaving most of the brownies for us other Tailgaters (or at least that is what he said).

Hope all Mrs Coco pixs got to you okay.  If some of them look bad, it is GHCs fault.  Too much high octane by the time the pictures were taken.

Hope everyone back there has a great Homecoming and the results are what we all expect.

I finally got to check out the board tonight, armed with the knowledge that BC beat HS 31-13  :)  and that Linfield beat Willamette 42-14.  :)  All is finally right with the football gods.  It must be the cookies.  They were at both homecoming tailgates today.  Our tailgate lasted so long that when I called Mrs. Coco to get the LC score, they were on their way out of the stadium on the way to another get together.  I heard that the meatballs were gobbled up and that the longies were excellent.  I love technology when it works!! She sounded like she was just next door.  Now we get to suffer through a week without football.  You have already gone through that!  Not looking forward to it.  I guess I'll just have to give tests and grade papers.  Bummer!!  Now I have 8 pages to read to find out all about the game ;D ;D ;D  Oh and the pictures are great!  It's nice to have faces to put names to.  I need to get my pics of Stone Station developed and sent out to Mrs. Coco.

Congrats to the Cats again for their win yesterday.  Been over the stats and nothing too big to be critical of.  They moved the ball well, especially in the 2nd half, and displayed better red-zone efficiency which was a huge problem against HS.  The Defense bent some in the first half but then locked down in the 2nd half.  They shut down the run well and came up with the big turneovers when they had to.  The areas that Cats could improve on from this game in my eyes are:  1.  Penalties----unless you've got 0 then you can always improve here.  2.  The running game continues to lack punch----while I'm not seeing it in person (only hearing the broadcast) it seems to lack much creativity and continues to not produce any big plays.  Note sure if this is a playcall or personell (or both) but if we had a bigger running threat we'd really be in business (but we're familiar with this problem).  Still, that's all I've got for now.  Glad to have one in the W collumn and after yesterday, conference play got a lot more interesting with PLU winning vs. UPS----Cat's have the Loggers next week and unless UPS can up their passing game (and pass D) the Cats's should be able to bring home another win!  But more on that later in the week :)
Go Cats!

Scharer looked good. I mean really good. Many of the balls he threw (including some intermediate to long throws) were perfectly thrown and placed. For me, that was the surprise of the game - how solid Scharer looked. It's only one game, but his performance was very encouraging.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Hi Fellas,

Thought I would chime in.  I haven't seen a Lute game like that in years.   Come from behind to score 19 or so points in the fourth quater....  It reminds me of Central and Western games of the past.   I have to say this about the Lutes, when playing well, and with a fire, they are pretty impressive.   They can put points up in a hurry.   The first half of the game, was a nightmare though.  UPS has done some amazing things with their program.

Props to your boys Hatchetman.  It was a great game.  This one should enhance the cross town rivalry a little, don't you think?
GO FOR TWO

Tuxguy

Foss,

I agree, Scharer looked comfortable, and seemed in command of the game.
The pass to Bubba Lemon running full stride as he caught the ball heading into the end zone was "Scharer" Beauty!! :D

It's great to see a Qb move around the pocket so easily, but lets hope he learns to get down sooner on those little scampers. Let the running backs get the extra yards. The  "D" came up Big time, play  after play  today, nice job!!

Wonderful game, It was  nice to get Coach Smith his First Victory on Homecoming '06.

Good to see everyone at the tailgate, OldCatProf,  thanks for stopping by, DenSLA, Mrs. coco, coco, little coco, GHC, Topcat1, swede, Oregoncity99, Kitticat83, WC11 and all the rest, sorry if I missed someone.....typing without my glass's is a chore.

Olinemom, Thanks for the kind gifts, you are the Best! They brought a little magic yesterday!

That's it for now, see some of you at the Alumni game tomorrow night!!

                                                            BELIEVE!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!

WOW....I'm very heartened by yesterdays performance. I'll wait a game or 2 to say "we're back in stride" but there are glimpses of a great team emerging here. The first half pretty much went the way I thought it might after the layoff and having a new qb step in...you could see things unfolding and the bugs were getting worked out. The offense seemed like it was firing on 2-3 cylinders for most of the 1st half but we saw bright spots like the record breaking TD toss and we were able to move the ball fairly effectively against a fired up Willamette team. The offensive line was playing very well giving the qb lots of time. The tight ends and the interior lineman were really playing hardnose ball doing a fine job. The receivers were making nice catches and I can't remember any obvious dropped ball when it was catchable. Joe Smith says this team is commited to getting better each game and from what I saw they are doing it. I think Smith is really doing some fine tuning behind the scenes and concentrating on the little things that make a team great. Some people have commented on the running game or lack there of. I think there could be some improvement there but I really think it is going to be fine. I like the fact that we have 3-4 backs that are rotating in and getting alot of playing time. I think they all have their strong points.  I'm still not sold on the straight up the middle stuff without any deception but some of the draws were really nicely executed and several of the backs seem to be able to be crafty enough to find a hole even if one is not there. The one thing I would say about the running game is that I wonder why we don't spread it out some. It doesn't seem to me that we run much if any any sweeps/counters or pitches outside... and no fly sweeps either? I also don't see many bubble screens which I pretty much call a running play. We have some quick guys...seems like we could spread the defense some so they can't pack it in tight on us? All the running plays seem off guard or tackle right up the middle. I'm not a football expert but I wonder why we don't have some variation in this respect? Maybe someone can inform me/us. I thought the defense played very well. We still need some seasoning in the db area. Face it we're fairly young/inexperienced there. Willamette threw the ball fairly well in the first half. They were throwing those short little quick play action passes... pretty nifty. Their receivers didn't get behind us but they sure made us look bad a lot in that first half on the pass. Now where has this #33 kid been hiding? He was all over the field. He was stopping the run very effectively and was a dynamo with 2 interceptions and one for a touch down...holy cow! Overall a very enjoyable afternoon at the CATDOME! ;D

coco

"Scharer Beauty." I like that. As you said, Tux, he seems comfortable on the field, and he did a fine job.

What a great day yesterday was. Weather-wise, tailgate-wise, score-wise. It was good to see all the regulars, meet a few more posters, and visit with other alums. I love beating the Bearkits, and the Wildcats looked awesome. We're on track now! Tawata was an animal, and Ketler's TD was cool.

Plenty of kids got the ball and that was good, too. We've got lots of threats.
Great job by Coach Smith and his staff!

Wyd, congrats to the Lutes. It looks like there is some parity in Tacoma finally.

Congrats to Whitworth as well.
