I may put up a prediction tomorrow, but I'm still a bit unsettled over the PLU win. The Loggers need to tighten up, especially late in the game.  Coach Willenbrock said the same thing, and it needs to be done. If that happens, the game will be close.

FBG--  You are kidding us right.  Conference champs until   Excuse me while I throw up.

It wont be close--someone needs to tell Coach that the way it works is that you need to win a frickin championship before you talk about that, and most good coaches don't talk like that anyway.  Of course I am really not surprised because I have heard some of his recruiting speeches are smoke and mirrors as well.

Wonder what he will say when his boys get their a$$ kicked on Sat --What a jerk

SAY WHAT.......   I totally agree with GHCs comments, besides who would know better then the high octane master himself.  I can see the coach wanting to excite the players and build up their spirit, but this is taking it a little far.  How can you consider as a contender when your really just a prertender?  The running back is good, but what's he going to do when 8 purple jerseys decide that their is no running or no hiding?  No doubt that UPS is getting better, but I would like to see their scores up against the likes of HSU and WOU.  I think maybe the coach is smoking a little wacky tobaccy or  he has been sipping a little too much high octane.

Stop the run and you stop UPS - Cats go up early, loggers forces to throw the ball, cats obldge with interceptions and the game is over.  Cats by 21 convservatively.  I may predict 35 after seeing GHC Saturday before the game.

 Dens,
#11 Garrett Hanson, a 6'2" Jr. transfer from PSU I believe is the back up. He Got in the WU. game and was 1-1 for 8 yards.

The UPS coach said what?   :o
Another all talk, no show year. Sorry, that's just the way I see it. Till the loggers beat someone of substance, I will continue to say it!
Wins over Whittier 5-22 and La Verne 10-17 since 2003, just doesn't impress me!
W's look nice until you see who they were against.

Sure the Cats started out 0-2, but they lost to the #5 d3 team in the country, and a D2 team that should be ranked in the top 20.

Should be a good game this weekend, for maybe a half............... GO WILDCATS!

  GHC +k my man......                            BELIEVE
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Good luck to the 'Cats 'n 'Rats this weekend . . . looking forward both teams running the board to Nov. 4 for an NWC showdown . . . at which time I expect the 'Cats will take conference.  Here's hoping Oxy remains undefeated and has the opportunity to host Linfield for a change . . .  ;D

Have not followed this board too closely lately, any word on what's up w/ Brett after his release from the Chargers?

cheers,

I don't get what you guys are upset about with the UPS coach's quote.  It sounds to me like he is giving respect to Linfield by saying they are the conference champs until someone proves otherwise.  Am I missing something here? ???

pennstlbu

Am I the only one who didn't misinterpret Coach Willenbrock's quote? He's saying that Linfield is the conference champs until they are knocked off, not UPS. If you read the entire preview on UPS' website you'll understand that. I know for a fact that Coach Willy isn't dumb enough to say that UPS is the team to beat in the NWC when Linfield has not lost a conference game since '01.

pennstlbu

Sounds like Linfield is scrapping to find some bulletin board material again this year.

downtown48

I know they got legit BB material last year...and your boy R. Lee got nothing but a headache and a busted wrist for his troubles.

I did read the quote the way PennSt. explained it, it just wasn't relayed very well on the original post.

Did I read somewhere that UPS has one completion for 9 yards last week??  As long as Linfield doesn't give them the short field it's going to be ugly.  UPS won't  drive it 80 yards against Linfield without making a mistake.

pennstlbu

As far as the game on Saturday, it depends on which UPS team shows up. Last week's game was the first I've seen this year, but if the UPS team from the first 3 quarters of the PLU game shows up I can see the game being closer. But the 4th quarter Loggers from the PLU game reminded me too much of past Logger teams; committing turnovers and allowing big plays. If they show up, then it's like the Linfield-UPS games of 4 of the past 5 years.

And yes, Downtown48, you did read correct. Kavin only completed one pass in the PLU game. But that has a lot to do with the success of the Logger running game in the first 3 quarters and not having to throw the ball. They never had to throw until there were 5 minutes left. But mixing in some passes would be helpful this week.

pineconefan

In my opinion the BB material in the UPS coach's quote is the first sentence, not the last.  What's going to make UPS any tougher for Linfield this week than they would ordinarily?  "I wouldn't want to be the team that plays us this week?" So they got beat by PLU?  Did that really expose anything other than the fact that UPS had played a really weak schedule up to that point?

Did anyone look at the UPS website? Willenbrock wasn't dissing Linfield. It's like pennstlbu said. He acknowledged that the 'Cats are the conference champs until someone knocks us off.

If they DO come out firing on all cylinders, it could be a hell of a game, but I don't see that happening for four quarters against our D.

'Cats by 15.
Two words:  THE STREAK

bluenote

Your're right Tuxybaby....Western is 4-0 and rated #18 in DII and Hardin-Simmons is 3-0 (would be 4-0 if they'ed played the game with Louisiana College that I guess got cancelled) and we all know that if we'd had all our ducks in a row from the start we very well would be 3-0 ourselves....but we are evolving like a a republican cover-up and no one can stop us now!  ;D

Lever Street

The CATS are good, but you're crazy Bluenote saying that we could be 3-0.  We got our behind whooped by 2 very good teams.  The Hardin Simmons game could've easily been a 35-0 loss.  However, the good news for Linfield is that the remaining schedule is against average and poor teams (except for Whitworth).

You can't get to CatDome without seeing Lever Street.   Go Linfield!

Lever,

The HSU game could have also easily been 14-7 Linfield at half and who knows what could have happened from there....but the game played out like it played out....a missed tackle for loss leads to a big play and the game changed.  Kudos to HSU.  Linfield just needs to continue to get better and not worry about the score.  If they do that they should be just fine this weekend.

BTW...I agree with Pinecone's thoughts about Willenbrock's comments.  The teams I wouldn't want to be is the one that is facing an improving Linfield squad or a finding a way to win Whitworth team with an offense that is probably ready to pop.
