where are you  that's it's state quaterfinals already?

Secondly, UPS's  coaching staff pulled a no brainer on that fake punt when they could have put Linfield deep in its own territory.

Oh well, coulda, woulda just doesn'y cut in college football.

Concerning Coach Locey,
From my source with the Beavers, At OSU Many Coach's are hired by the AD, Not always does a new Head Coach bring in all new coordinator's. I believe Coach Locey will be the new Defensive Coordinator with in a year. No matter what happens with Mike Riley.  The current DC plans to retire soon. I believe That's why, not only because they were good friends, but He had some job security going in, even if Riley is let go. The Beavers still have a lot of games left, but need to get it into gear soon.
That looks more encouraging with more job security for him than I was afraid might be the case. Thanks for the report.

Classic,

Alaska.  As you might guess it generally snows before our final which is slated for the 3rd Saturday of October.  Quarterfinals are the first round of playoffs for the "large" schools.  THe "small" schools have a 4 team playoff.

I didn't listen to the Linfield game but followed the posts so I missed the fake punt scenario.  Posts weren't that specific.  Actually the only reason I did that was hoping to read updates on the PLU game.  When I finally figured out how to get a webcast from Whitworth going I listened to the end of the PLU game.  PLU apparently is not webcasting the games this year.

D O.C.

d3 top 25 out and, personally, I'd like to see #12 Whitworth play #4 Capital and #11 Occidental play #5 Wesley. Just dreaming.

Because you think Occidental is overrated? Oxy hasn't exactly set the world on fire this season, Dense.

why can't KSLC just do a webcast of the linfield games? seems that the current set up is too costly. i wonder if they are making any money off the thing. i usually just wait till the cats play on the road and hook up to that site. i remember that central did a webcast from the catdome.

if kslc is not game, how about some linfield college student just make it his class project. who knows he may have enough to buy an nba basketball team someday.....

Video streaming apparently IS an option through Stretch Internet, which hosts the games audio feeds. Don't know the costs though. The audio feed alone appears to cost $2,499 per year ($1,999 for the first year). The video feed comes in two packages, either a set fee (which they don't state) for unlimited use, or a pay-per-view feed which they'd split.

Most people I know listen to the feed on the airwaves rather than the net.  Aside from those of us on the board, are there that many other users? There's, what, about 20 regular Cat posters here? If we are indeed it for their internet audience, that's $125 per head as it is.

I'm just grateful that they have audio. For those of us out of KSLC's range, it used to be the only way you could get updates was that 900# thing.  :P

We had a good time at the game.
It was fun meeting with the D3 posters in the parking lot.
However, I had to turn down Gig's offer of the high octane adult beverage before the game.
I hope to meet more of you CAT fans at the PLU game.

Long live the CATDOME!

Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!

At least you haven't called me old man yet.

Same old argument...because I always like to see how the FAR West teams stack up with the everybody east of the Mississippi.

I always like to see how the Qb d3.com picked 1st team pre season stacks up with anybody east of the Mississippi.
I 'd like to see how the arguably second best Qb in the FAR West stacks up with anybody east of the Mississippi.

Looked more closely at the APU-SOU game:  APU turned the ball over 6 times and SOU started most of their scoring drives from within APU territor (they had 3 good drives near the end of the game where they started on their own side of the field).

SOU looks like they run a pretty balanced offense but have been more successful running the ball.  Their QB is a Freshman and throws the INT too often (though none in the monkey stomp last week).  Their leading rusher is a 5-11, 210 LB junior but the other runing back 5-8, 205 is the guy with the rushing TDs.  Their WRs are a 6-2 205 and a 5-10 180 and their TE is about 6-1 210.   The o-line is a little hard to figure out (who is playing that is) but it looks like the 6 foot to 6-4 sized guys with about 225-275 pounds on them.  They have some 300-350 pound guys but I don't think they are playing much....

On Defense, their leading sack-men are two tackles.  One of them is a big guy from, at least one you'll appreciate this, Gig Harbor High School (he and his brother are both on the team).  Their LBs and Safety lead the team in tackles,  all have one or two picks and are all in the 6 foot 200 pound range.

They are very beatable and if the Cats can continue to shut down the run and make the young QB throw more (and pressure him) then it could be a big day for the Cats.  SOU has been susceptible to the passing attack but I'd like to see the Cats try to establish more running game (we'll need it at some point this season!).  My pick:  Cats 49 SOU 13.  Next post for other calls (yes I'm home from work sick today)
Go Cats!

DenS,

Sorry I mean D O .C., It's going to take some time to digest the new name.
Did you get my e-mail?   8)

I keep hearing/reading that the game was closer than the score showed because of the K.O. returns for Td's.  ???
Now,  I was just listening to the D&D show, but don't you think the Cats would have just drove down the field and scored any way? Only 4 punts according to the stats.

NWC Picks for the week:

Pacific Lutheran at Menlo:  PLU has a pretty good passing machine going now and Menlo's offense has been limited while their D started well but has been giving up more points as the season goes on.  Most notabely were the 28 points and 351 yds passing against Lewis and Clark.  PLU is better than L&C and continues to improve each week.  I pick PLU in ths one (on the road) 28-17.

Lewis and Clark at Whitworth:  In the shocker of the season L&C beats the Rats by 2 scores....NOT......just kidding.....calm down.  K:  L&C has displayed a decent ability to score points through the air but Whitworth's D has been stingy especially against the pass.  Whitworth comes in with #2 rushing offense in the NWC and L&C has the worst run D.  Look for the Rats to run all over the Pios and look for Joel Clark to have a big day once the Pios start committing to the run.  Final Score:  Rats  42 Pios 10.

Southern Oregon at Linfield       (see my previous post)  Linfield 49-SOU 13

Puget Sound at Willamette: The most intersting game of the week.  We've got two teams that like to pound it out on the ground.  The Bearcats have been more effective than the Loggers when throwing the ball which gives them an edge offensively. However, defensively, Willamette has been aweful including against the run.  UPS has played good D (last week maybe the exception) especially against the run.  UPS also has the advantage in turnover margin and want to prove that, despite their 0-2 conference record, they are an improved team.  I think they take the game from Willamette on the road with Rory Lee returning to dominance following the shut-down by the Cats.  Final Score:  UPS 35 (I know they have yet to break the 28 pt barrier but it happens this week) Willamette 21 (Bear Cats able to break some big plays passing).
Go Cats!

MonroviaCat,

Is the 5'11 Jr. RB, Krezman(sp) that set the state rushing record a few years back from The Dalles or Hood River? He was sure good in High School!

SOU is young, with an all new Coaching staff. Changing the attitude down south. But!.........
I hear the Red Raiders had a little trouble Saturday in Ashland. Celebrated the big Victory in the traditional SOU style. Will see what comes out of this. Players involved, DUI, under age drinking, ( It is College isn't) some just have the reputation.   ;D  Don't do it during the season, and don't get caught. ( remember now, I was in the pep band ) it was the off season all year long!  8)

Cats roll this week and get their first home night game victory in over 35 years.**

No, he's not on the team as far as I can tell.  The RB's name is Van Zant (from Carson City Nevada).  The 5'8 guys is Preyer from Sacramento.

Pat says,
Because you think Occidental is overrated? Oxy hasn't exactly set the world on fire this season, Dense.

I'm sure I missed something, but my take was, #12 Whitworth vs. #4 Capital, both good programs, just can't quite get to the top.  Brides maids each year. #5 Wesley is the same. #11 Oxy has been top Dwag in the SCIAC for several years now but always runs into Linfield. So how good are they?
Dens, ops, DOC I thought was wanting to see the difference from #11 to #4, and #12 to #5 .....I'd say not Much! MO of course.

D O .C., the new you, I'm sure turned the other cheek.

It must be Monday, I'm a little slow today.
Definition of dense...Slow to understand, stupid, thickheaded......was to dense to get the joke..... I probably missed it!
