.....I'd love another shot at Central!   ;D

Heck Yeah!  Just keep our eyes on the ball and listen for the whistle! :)

Don't be so fast to count the Whitworth game as a win Wildcat fans. No disrespect to you. But the Pirates are a team to recon with. It should be a great game I wish I could be there for it.

MonroviaCat

Welcome to the Board Whitpirate.  Nobody here is counting the Whitworth game as an automatic win.  I think if you hang around here you'll see that even us Cat fans are looking at the Rats as the team to beat in the NWC this year.  All the previous posts should have (and I think did) say "if the Cats beat the Rats".  Besides, we don't play for 2 weeks and we've got another opponent to worry about in Menlo.  Rats have Willamette who has had an extra week to rest, recover and prepare for the Rats.  Never know what will happen on any given Saturday! :)

bluenote:
glad that you could report that. i know for me that would put a little more coal in my fire. i will have to say this, i loved playing for the linfield fans. they are by far the best on the planet.

wildcat fan story:
i made a tackle on the goal-line in the 1984 NAIA div II national chamionship game, it was during the first quarter right before the red-raiders scored for the first time .... in 1999 i went back to McMinnville to watch a game (wildcats vrs bearcats) and this guy is standing in the endzone next to me watching the game. after a while he asks if i am who he thinks i am. i tell him i am that guy he thinks i am. anyway, he tell me that he remembers me and watching me play. i say cool. then he asks me if i meant to take the guys legs out on that tackle on the goal-line in the 1984 title game. he wanted to know if i meant to do that or if it was a mistake. i tell him that i saw that sattler was there in the hole and going to make the tackle. i know that scott is going to go high (because we are on the goal-line), so i went in low to take out the rbs legs.
that whole conversation fully tripped me out. i remember the play, and have thought about it from time to time. then here is this guy who has this question in his head for 15 years. he has no way of knowing he will ever see me, then there in the endzone he sees me and gets to ask.

wildcats fans are fan-tas-tic!!!!!

Ah man....not that I'm looking past Menlo this week but I was checking my calander and just realized that I'm going to be at a conference all day on November 4th which means, if the Cats take care of business this week, I'll be missing the big game vs. Whitworth.  CRUDDDDDDDDDDDDD.  If I can figure out how to get my phone to recieve text messages would anybody be willing to send them?  (This is why I'm posting now so I have 2 weeks to figure it out).  Talk about poor planning on my part :(
Go Cats!

Sorry to post so late on the Linfield-PLU game, just got back home.  Linfield looked pretty good on Saturday and the Lute offense did not.  Seven turnovers...no one can turn the ball over seven times against a quality team like Linfield and win.  I thought the Lute D played pretty well considering they had their backs against the wall most of the game.  15 points off of field goals, that kicker did a great job.  The Lutes have had a couple of "down years" but it looks like they have a lot of young guys playing.  Five in a row hurts the ego a little bit, but we'll be back.

Welcome Braksy 20!  Always glad to see new posters from other NWC schools.

As an alum of a Big-10 school and a Pac-10 school (but a much more serious Linfield fan), I'm not sure I've seen a more intense conference rivalry over the last 36 years than Linfield-PLU. Nor have I seen games with so much pride of achievement riding on them year after year. While there have been many hard-fought games and heart-stopping finishes over the years, IMO it has been a quality rivalry based on joint respect between two class programs.

The selfish part of me hopes never to see PLU highly competitive again...but in my heart, my respect for your program's history causes me to recognize that it is better for Linfield, the NWC, and D-3 football to have PLU re-build the high quality program we saw for many years.

Here's to a resurgence of Lute football...except on Wildcat Weekends!!

OldCatProf-
Great post!  Having strong teams in the NWC year in and year out is what makes the NWC so much fun to be apart of.  I loved being apart of the NWC when there were three great teams in PLU, Linfield, and Willamete and it was a race to the finish.  I believe the Lutes will be there again in the near future and especially on Wildcat Weekends!!!  :)

Quick check-in as most of my points from the game have been hashed and re-hashed....Have fun DOC setting up your own site....Where in the world did the kicker come from? This is a team that didn't attempt a 30 yard field goal with a driving wind at their backs in Abilene and now this? Impressive...The Lutes turn the ball over way too much- and this is 3 years running. Ughhh, while I love to hate on our rivals as much as anyone, I fully agree that the conferance being so down sucks for all involved...Scherer is surprising the heck out of me.

Peace. Kenny Rogers is a big, fat cheater.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Central would LOVE to host Linfield this season. Central is by no means in the playoffs yet, but we're working on remaining undefeated so that we can host some playoff games in our newly renovated, rededicated stadium. We would be honored to play the Cats this season. Go Linfield!

:D

MC, I know coco has some Wartburg friends that visit this board, and so I felt I should mention the following. I don't think Wartburg has to necessarily hope the teams mentioned have to lose in order to get in. They are currently 6-1 and favored to win out, which means they could go 9-1. They just defeated a team that was ranked in the top 25, and now the Knights find themselves at #23 in the latest D3football poll. Their only loss was in overtime on the road to #12 Central. IMO, they would have a good shot at making the playoffs. The committee could always ship a team out of the West to a different region if there ends up being more than 8 teams selected.

By the way, Coco has some Central friends that visit the NWC board occassionally as well. Right now, the IIAC is very undecided -- Central still has to play Coe and Simpson. (Simpson, though not tough on paper will be a game for Central as the Storm are our closest rivalry...) There are several plausable playoff scenarios listed on the IIAC board, most of which include chances for Wartburg, Coe, Loras and Central.

Spiritof86,

I feel for you, at least the Rams had the week off! It could have been a really bad day.

The Kicker...........
I posted a year or so ago, about a kicker that these people saw while walking their dog. He was Kicking 50+ yarders    :o   at a High School practice field. They were so impressed that they asked the young man where he was going to go to College. He replied "Linfield" in the fall! This must be the same young man. I read it on the Oregonlive small college football board.

The using of a kicker can do many things for a team. Frosty Jr. might think about a FG next time it's 4th and short around the 20. Sorry I know it's Scott, didn't mean any disrespect. But because his Dad Frosty never kicked in those situations doesn't mean he can't. :-\

Case in point.....
I believe it was the 1984 Championship game,( you guys help me here) The Cats went into half down, was it 22-0? Came out in the 2nd half, had a short drive and stalled, but Coach Rutschman sent in the kicker to get some points on the board. I remember the crowed mumbling that the Cats needed a Td, but the rest is History. It gave the team some life, and propelled them to one of the greatest come backs in the history of College football Championships.  33-22. ;D

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!

Here are my picks for the week in the NWC:  I didn't get too anyalytical on these because most of these games should be pretty easy to call.  I think the UPS/CC and Linfield/Menlo games are the more interesting as WW should roll and I don't think L&C will pull the upset unless PLU gives them a bunch of turnovers and the Pios don't make those types of mistakes.  Nonetheless, here we go :)

Willamette at Whitworth:  Rats take it to the Kitties with their strong Defense creating turnovers.  Willamette has some luck running the ball on the Rats but it is not enough.  Rats balanced offensive attack is too much for Willamette's questionable defense but score is limited a little by Bearcats running a lot and eating time on the clock.   Rats 35 Bearcats 14.

Puget Sound at Colorado College:  Fresh off their whomping of L&C the Loggers roll again against a sort of enigmatic CC team that has looked good and then bad and then bad and then good.  Bottom line, CC does not have the defense to contain Puget Sound and UPS will step it up on the road to win this one...  UPS 35 CC 21

Menlo at Linfield:  Catdome is rocking as the highflying Cat attack is too much for Menlo.  Cats hit lots of quick passes and break them big and the Cat D gets really salty in this one and nearly pitches the shutout but the Oaks break off one big play Cats 35 Oaks 7 (oh yeah----Streak continues)

Pacific Lutheran at Lewis and Clark:  Two passing attacks collide but the team with some defense wins.  PLU 35 L&C 14.
Go Cats!

RedandPurple

It was my first visit to Puyallup. Had a great time at the game. What was that strange orb in the sky? Oh yeah, the sun! What a fun day! The Cats' played extremely well. 18 points from the kicker! I sat behind his parents. They were going crazy!
Olinemom- Thanks for your support and the kind words.

See you all next Saturday at the CATDOME.
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!
