as a wise beancounter once posted, taking karma hits is a badge of courage and should give one a sense of pride. Taking actual, physical hits this saturday may prove Joel Clark to be courageous, but in the end will only fill him with disappointment rather than pride.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Has anyone else noticed that the officials have gotten completely rediculous about celebration and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties?  Here is just a case in point from last Saturday:

mms://media.whitworth.edu/athletics/football/2006/10_28AllanTD.wmv (you'll have to copy and open - it won't work with current tools)

Allan was flagged 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for "spiking" the football!

I really hope a game like this Saturday's is not decided by some stupid officiating mistake.

The 'Cats will let it rain this weekend.
There's nothing like being a wildcat.  Some say they understand, but until you've lived it, you have no idea.

From the rule book, "After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot."

Even your annoucer called it a spike.  Not to sure if that was a 'stupid officiating mistake', but it is a good job of laying the ground work for complaining after the game when the rats come up short once again.

Man Law, I second that also!

Pat, I believe earlier in the year their was talk of Keith or someone coming to this game on Saturday. Should we expect company and roll out the purple carpet? The game of the week in the West! 8)
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Allen obviously tried to put the ball down, but at 6'7" with such long arms there was much more force put onto the ball than he intended simply by letting his arm fall towards the ground, resulting in what appeared to be a spike.  I hope they don't call stuff like that this week...I mean linfield is going to want to celebrate what few touchdowns they score this saturday, so let 'em.

Oh and about your TE, he can be 6'100 but he is still the same size around his ankles as everyone else. A Perfect spot for a Cat facemask

Pinecone...

While I don't know that your rats will have many opportunties to celebrate... ;) they officials have gotten rediculous with the celebration penalties.  It's all part of the touchy-feely pussification of America...Hopefully they keep the flags in their pocket on something like that Saturday!

new region rankings are posted on the Daily Dose

Based on the newest regional rankings, head to head competition this weekend, and my gutt feeling  it looks like there is a good possiblity that things may move around a bit with several regional positions up for change.  Of course this is based on my limited research looking at this weekend schedule, Quality of Wins, Home Field, etc.

1.  U-Whitewater  vs. U-Stout   1-4 Conference (No big change here)
2.  St Johns vs. Bethel               5-1 Conference (Should be good game - Who knows)
3.  Central vs. Coe                    6-2 Conference (Could see Central move down but doubtful)
4.  Whitworth vs. Linfield          4-0 Conference (For NWC Crown at the Dome, will move down to #8))
5.  UW - LaCrosse vs. UW - River Falls 3-5 Conference (May move up with win)
6.  Occidental vs. Chapman      3-4 Conference (More than likely will move up)
7.  Linfield vs. Whitworth          4-0 Conference (Linfield will move into top 6 with win maybe 5)
8.  Bethel vs. St Johns              9-0 Conference (Could move up with upset, more than likely will drop to 10)
9.  St Norbert vs. Illinois College 6-2 Conference (Could be upset but don't count on it)
10. Warbrurg vs. Cornell          0-6 Conference (Friends from Wartburg move up 1 notch)

Bethel and Linfield  have chance of dropping from top 10 with loss.  Wartburg will drop out with upset loss to Cornell (unlikely)

Preditions for next weeks Regional Rankings based on SWAG Pole

1.  UW-Whitewater
2.  St Johns
3.  Central
4.  UW-Lacrosse
5.  Occidental
6.  Linfield
7.  St Norbert
8.  Whitworth
9.  Wartburg
10. Bethel

Now that's an interesting take . . . back in the day (I'm fairly old school) there was no such thing as a touchdown celebration, or a sack dance, or an "in your face" after an interception or some other good play . . . you do your job and keep playing, leave it to your teammates to give you slaps and props.  It's more recently under the "touchy-feely" share your feelings, let it loose ideal that you see these "celebrations."  I think that it just looks stupid and utterly without class.

Frankly, it's poor sportsmanship . . . once the points have been scored there's no need to act the fool, dance, spike or do other "celebrations."  The job was done, move on, why put it in the face of the team you just beat?

just my 2 cents
