Tooth,

Did you even look at the video?  There is no "in your face" at all!

This is simply a case of taking the fun out of football.

PS cats, no whining, just pointing out an opinion.

GH - lets see, if memory serves you picked:
- the Cats over WOU in the season opener
- a +30 win at HSU
- PLU over Whitworth in "upset of the season"
- Willamette over Whitworth "ok, really, this is upset of the season"

Keep picking the 'Cats, the higher the spread the better!  ;D

Just a broad observation in response to [downtown's] statement about "celebrations" and the "pussification" of America.  Seems to me that celebrations are more a part of the, as [downtown] put it "pussification" as opposed to the "do your job" stoic approach that I see as more "old school."

Reasonable minds can differ.

OK Pinecone, I've made the edits . . . whew . . . so much better eh?

Hey, Pine, I think Sabre was talking in general about "celebrations" on the field and not specifically to the Clark penalty. (as he clarified even as I was typing.  :))

And I tend to agree.

The story is told about a young running back at the University of Texas scoring and doing a bit of celebrating. When he came to the bench Coach Darrell Royal pulled him to the side and said, "Son, the next time you get into the end zone act like you have been there before."

QuoteFrom the rule book, "After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot."

Allen obviously tried to put the ball down, but at 6'7" with such long arms there was much more force put onto the ball than he intended simply by letting his arm fall towards the ground,

509,

I agree with you that it was a nit-pick call. I was playing devils advocate, but come on.  "simply by letting his arm fall towards the ground,..."  I am choking on the smell of your BS

Good luck this weekend.

Pinecone, you beat me to it.  Tooth...did you watch the video?  That call was a joke.  I'm not talking about dances and the like...that to me is stupid.  All the T.O., Chad Johnson stuff is funny but they look silly doing it.  I'm talking about the overly sensitive BS like not keeping score in youth games...the "everybody gets to play" rules in little league...the WIAA won't even let shoot off confetti at the end of the state championship game because "it rubs it in the losing teams face."  Gimme a break, there are winners and losers in life and nobody wins all the time and nobody loses all the time but you might as well learn how to handle either situation...that's what I mean by the "pussification" of America.

Tooth,
While I am not clever enough to come up with a classic word like "pussification" (too many syllables), I do try to pay attention to whom I am responding.

DT48,
I could not agree with you more, well said.

Looks like there will be a leak in the catdome as the weather forecast is calling for a high of 57 and 70% chance of rain on gameday.

My mistake . . . the response to your post should have read "downtown's" instead of "yours"

I'll make the edits.

Hey UMHBalum-n-Catland:

I heard the same old story many years ago, but was told it came from Coach Bear Bryant at Alabama. I suspect the story been told and attributed over the years to all the "Old School" coaches like Woody Hays, Duffy Daughtery, Bo Shembechler, etc.
