509,

I hope you're able to keep the cartoons coming.
The NCAA should do the right thing and have the game at Spokane. You have the facility for it, and plenty of lodging close by.
Congratulations to you guys.

Gutsy game by Collins, #2 (a very good RB) and the rest of their team.  He played a good game but his defense couldn't help him out when it counted.  To Browneagle: I think Whitworth showed who the more tested team was this game.  The game was tight and the Pirates pulled it out, looks like the playoff experience didn't help that much after all.

I think this game showed that Whitworth was a much better team than Oxy.  If Joel Clark is healthy and can move around a little then this game isn't that close.  Plus the Pirates won the game only forcing one turnover while whitworth committed 4.  If you can beat a team as good as Occidental with a seriously banged up QB and a -3 turnover margin you are a good football team.

Congrats Pirates!  Beat the Johnnies (although this presents a problem for the picture I'll be making....what the hell is a johnnie?)!  Hopefully the NCAA doesn't get wrapped up in the fiscal part of the playoffs and give the lower seed a home game simply because they can bring in more money for the NCAA.  That would be a shame!

509, Oxy threw two interceptions.  Good luck with St. Johns.  The Pirates just keep winning those close ones.  I guess that's what separates a good team from a great one.

Great game for WR Koller, who stepped up in the 2nd half. He ended w/ 5 catches for 81 yards. I believe he also made the huge catch on 3rd and 15 on the final drive in the last two minutes. The 'Rats needed a WR other than Silva (8 catches for 55 yds) to make plays and Koller did.

I think you were watching or listening to a different game than the rest of us.  Those were two evenly matched teams.  It's week #10 in the season -- I don't think Joel Clark was the only player on the field (or off the field) who was banged up.

I guess when you selectively eliminate Willamette, Lewis & Clark and Puget Sound, Oxy is, in fact, 0-3 against the NWC.

Appearently you were the one not watching the game.  Clark was having trouble walking.  If you have ever seen a Whitworth game you'd understand how important Clark's ability to run the football is to the whitworth offense.  When you can't run a QB draw with a guy like Clark on 3rd and 5 then you've closed a lot of doors on yourself and given the opposing defense an advantage.

You are new and appearently a SCIAC fan, so I'll help you get up to speed.  That post was regarding Oxy's playoff record against the NWC.  Now it really should say 1-3 since they beat Willamette two years ago, but had you been paying attention you'd have realized that someone already corrected that.

Quote509, Oxy threw two interceptions.

You're right speedybigboy, my bad.  I completely forgot about that one.  So while the stat sheet will say the turnover margin was -2, that last INT had no bearing on the game what so ever (it came on a ball thrown well short of the endzone with 0 seconds left in the game).  Basically Oxy couldn't capitalize on the numerous Whitworth mistakes and come out with a win.

509, thanks, it's good to here from someone at the game.  The radio guys get a little excited so I didn't know it was well short of the endzone.  In X's defense it did sound like a very close game.  I would say though that the Whitworth announcers commented numerous times on Clark's injury affecting his play and/or affecting what play they THOUGHT would have been called at a given point.  In the end all that matters was your guys got it done.  Good luck next week.

Just make up something for the Johnies for your cartoon.  I too look forward to them.

No problem...the ball maybe went to the Whitworth 20 but like I said, no where near the endzone and it had no effect on the aegm.

It was no doubt a close game.  And Oxy played a good game.  But thats my point exactly.  Oxy played a good game, Whitworth did not.  And Whitworth still won.  They were definately a better team.

This one's gonna be tough.  I've got some good ideas but they involve coach gagliardi...thats kind of sacred ground, don't know if I should go there.  I was reading in the MIAC board and the St. John's fans are morons, maybe I'll just make fun of them!

"A team as good as Occidental."  I guess...I don't know if beating up on the little sisters of the poor all season in the SCIAC is a real good barometer...in fact...obviously not.  The fact that you beat them despite four turnovers and a hardly able to walk Joel Clark doesn't help the argument.  We'll see next week...You better reverse that turnover margin or it will be a long day...I hope you get it done... ::)

Speedybigboy,

You said the Whitworth announcers got "a little excited." That's putting it mildly. Sometimes they were shouting so loudly at the same time that I couldn't understand what they were saying. Other times one guy sounded like an auctioneer on speed. They were fun to listen to, and I liked the third guy down on the field.

Now if they only had Eve.....

They spazzed out so much on Whitworth's last TD that I had no idea what happened. For a second I really thought the 'Rats had fumbled and Oxy recovered because the announcers got so loud they sounded kind of upset. It was just excitement, as it turned out. I had to wait for the smoke to clear and for them to settle down before I realized the 'Rats had put it in the endzone and taken the lead.
