I'm sitting in San Diego watching the Hawaii Bowl; ASU vs. Hawaii. Colt Brennan just threw his 54th td pass for the year. The announcers said he tied the NCAA record for td passes in a season.

What?
"...Brett Elliott threw more touchdowns - 61 - than any other quarterback in college history at any level. Heck, he's thrown more touchdowns in a season than any NFL quarterback - and they get far more games." -Kari Chisholm of Blueoregon.com

Did I miss something?

Well I think you did miss Bill Borchert's 63 TD passes in 1997!

Happy New Year NWC.

Pat Coleman

Well, unfortunately the NCAA doesn't recognize that record.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I love back-to-back football games.
Two words:  THE STREAK

Happy new year to everyone.

Tuxguy...you get +1k for life!

BTW....after watching the Boise/OU game last night I had to go to the BSU web site to see if there was a former PLU coach on the Broncos staff....a hook and ladder, half back pass on 4th and goal, and then a statue of liberty play on the 2 point conversion?  I think there might be some Willamette Bearcats from the 90's that could tell you to watch out for the hook and ladder at the end of the game.  Incredible.

;D ;D

Sweet game, eh?! I thought it was over when they returned the pic with ~2 minutes to go.

I think that was the best bowl game I've ever seen in my life.

I would still like to see a playoff in 1-A (I guess the NCAA has decided to change "1-A" to the "Football Bowl Subdivision" in order to "simplify" things. Gee thanks, that makes things a lot easier for us. Another great decision by the NCAA). Anyway, but I must say I don't remember seeing a better season of bowl games. Oregon State coming back from 14 down with 6 minutes to go and then deciding to go for the 2 point conversion to win it, some team (can 't remember who right now) coming back from 31 down in the second half, Boston College winning in the final seconds only because Navy fumbled a pitch (why pitch the ball when you have the game won?) in the final seconds when they had it wrapped up, and now Boise State pulling it off against Oklahoma. And there are still a few games left.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

I noticed the revenues for ALL the Bowl games per school in USA Today 1/2/07 (free on the hotel door in the AM, PC).

The games ranged from Miami-Nevada at 250,000 to that Boise-OK game at 17 million. Rose, Orange, Fiesta, Sugar, and the BCS all come in at that level.
That is again per school.
No way are they ever giving that up.

How much money does the TV contract for D-I basketball bring in again?

6 billion for 11 years ending in 2013.  So about 545 million per year.

"Whoa Nellie" that's a lot of money.
Do the Stagg Bowl teams (schools) receive any revenue for playing on ESPN?

I would say they're lucky to get the gift bags they get when they get to salem...and even at that they're stingy with them...the NCAA, I would imagine, makes ZERO money on the Stagg Bowl being on TV.  It's just a throw in when they make thier big TV deal.  I'm sure ESPN would rather show poker...that's why they don't show the NHL anymore, poker was getting better ratings.
