Hmmm, interesting.

Pat, you say that "Participation in the combine is by invitation only. Division III players have not been on the invitation list in recent years." And then... "Gustavus Adolphus wide receiver Ryan Hoag was the last Division III player selected in the NFL draft, taken with the last overall pick in 2003."

So I gather 2003 was also the last year a DIII player was even invited to the combine? (And if so was Hoag the last player invited?)

Ryan Hoag was not invited to the combine. I am not aware of any Division III player invited to the combine since D3football.com started.

Pat, I'm confused as to whether Hoag was or was not invited to the combine in 2003. In the above post you say he was not, but in the latest Daily Dose you write, "Good luck to Whitworth's Michael Allan, the first D-III player to be invited to the NFL's scouting combine since Ryan Hoag was in 2003."

A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Pat...can you play a low pedal F staccato trill on your trombone while balancing a football on your head...? It's kind of fun and the chicks love it!

KR...was that in 2003 that SJU was almost upset by Crown?...jeez seems like just yesterday! I'd love to get a tape of that (for educational purposes only), I'm sure you must have it in your collection or maybe it's on YouTube by now.  :-* Anyway...cheers to you too, I'd be glad to buy you a beer next time we meet up and could you post that photo of you flying through the air upside down with your kilt on.. they were requesting it at the Elks Club to put up in the guest photo section next to Johnnie Red flipping a horse meat burger... hopefully Linfield and SJU will finally meet again...

Yeah, it seems like forever ago. Luckily I paid the Crown coach 32cents before the game to throw it just to help keep the boys' confidence high.
Sorry, no tape of the game. SJU pulled out all the stops and ran some double ultra top secret play we save for really big games.

I was forced by federal agents to destroy the pic of me upside down in my kilt after it was used by the former Iraqi government to prove that the US had their own WMDs.
But the beer sounds good.

BTW, it's Bluenote, not Blownote.... oh nevermind Pat make funny.

Trombone boy caught it.

Yeah... so did I, but I'm pretty sure Bluenote is above the age of majority in his home state as well as every other state of the union thereby making the term boy either inaccurate or unnecessarily derogatory.

I don't know about out on the Left coast, but I believe one or more parts of that act is illegal in most of the midwest.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Just thought I'd pipe in and give cawcdad some + karma for finding the photo. Just wish you had taken it. I always enjoy seeing your pictures.

O.K. just one real game left, the SUPERBOWL....So who will win?

I say if Peyton puts on a pair of Black High-tops it's all over for "DA" Bears!!
I'm going with the Colts, High-tops or not, even though they should still be in Baltimore.  :o

My teams been in the Bahamas during the entire playoffs   ;D.......Go Rams!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

cawcdad

Thank you for the kind words Tuxguy. I'm happy to know people have enjoyed my work.

As far as the Superbowl, Bears D (Urlacher, et al) v. Colts O (Manning et al). I like defense so I'll go with DA Bears.

Just before I hit the submit I thought, "Which Rex Grossman will show up?" Still, Da Bears.

D O.C.

knit pick....nit pick

It means a lot to the family and agents though.

The way Payton/Peyton took some crushes in the first half and then released on a back pettle/pedal the second half to come back gives me some hope he might get away with that again against another good defense.

Here's to Archie...........

Sorry D.O.C., as normal  I wasn't paying attention, Just a slip. I didn't have my afternoon nap yesterday, just shows what can happen.  ;)

I do understand the importance of getting the spelling right. So for those that missed it, Payton is now Peyton, as it should be on my last post. Go Rams, I mean Colt's  ;D

Now I'm off to get my rug and teddy for a nap.

2007......The Year of the WILDCATS!

D.O.C. congrats on getting to 2000+ posts, my how time flys  :o

I also echo the props given to cawcdad by pineconefan and the others.  If I had the ability to give karma I would...just 82 more posts to go.  I was very surprised/dissapointed at hte lack of attention Allan got during the game by the commentary staff...I guess they didn't realize how big of a deal it is for a d III guy to be at that kind of level...I mean seriously, the one time they announced his name they made it sound like a question and then went on to talking about something else.  Oh well, good job Mike, now I have to actually wath the second day of the NFL draft, just because the big guy has a "chance" of getting drafted.
