I believe Portland State continues to play football at home in a minor league baseball park which is not owned by the University and is located off campus. It needs to get more suitable digs (probably owned by the University and probably located on campus) if it is going to have a lively, long lasting and successful program.

Frank,

Your right about the  Baseball/Football/Soccer/? stadium, holds 25,000+ though.
I can't see them ever getting one on Campus. It's a funny Campus, like I said a commuter College mostly. They will have to have the City of Portland fall in Love with the team and Build one, which could happen. And with Glanville at the Helm, who knows, the sky's the limit.
The President of the School, brought Jerry's wife Flowers to the  Dinner. That's more than he spent on the Team the last few years I'm told. Sad but true........It shows they are behind the program, at least for now!

Any way, It will be good for Portland, and I can't see any down side or effects to Linfield or any other College's............maybe OSU?  ;D
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Let's see...should I worry about the next Michael Allan going to Portland (City) State?

Maybe - Lomax and Didier found their ways to Portland State.

According to NCAA stats....Portland State only averaged 7,100 as a Division IA school last season....so they  have a lot of "growing opportunity" to be in the same attendance area as Montana.  I've attended a few baseball games in this stadium but never a football game.  Where do they "tailgate" around this stadium with the lack of parking?  Or do they just skip the fun part of the game since they  are a commuter school?   I don't think the improvement in their program, if that happens, will have any material impact on the Wildcats.  They might  get a few kids that  were destined to OSU, Oregon or WOU but I doubt that will have much impact on Linfield.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

I've been to a few games, they close down a little street just west of the stadium. They have a beer garden, food and in the middle of the block is a bar with T.V.'s   to watch. Nice set up really.
Not up to Wildcat standards of course, but we have had a lot more practice. :o ;D

Offseason Wildcat Trivia  Question:  Which Cat holds the record for the most QB sacks in     a single season??  Answer:  Jim Mayo --- 38 sacks.  173 total sacks in three years (1977 - 1979).  He was a awsome and tough defensive Cat.                                                                                                                                  Jim is currently Head Football Coach at Colony High School in Alaska.  His team was the 2007 State Runnerup in the Large School State Football  Championship! "Once a Cat...Always a Cat".....Congratulations Jim!!!

I must be missing the joke because according to this, he had 135 sacks in the other two seasons. That would mean he had more than the 38 sacks in one season. If a guy had 173 sacks in 3 years, that would be a sight to behold!

Jim Mayo holds the career sack record at 38.

Another piece of Wildcat trivia:

David Russell is one of his assistant coaches.

Two words:  THE STREAK

It'd take a lot for PSU to jump up to Montana's level, as far as attendence goes. Montana's been in the top 5 in I-AA the last several years, including tops the last 2-3 years. If PSU could get to Montana St's level, roughly 12-14,000 w/o looking up the numbers, then I'd say the program is moving up in I-AA football. The Big Sky definitely needs the boost that they've been lacking since Idaho and Boise St. left for I-A. No one other than Montana has been to the semis fo the playoffs since '97, with only Montana St. and E. Washington winning playoff games in that period (2006 and 2004, I believe).

Thanks Tux....However the option to view other clips on Metacafe's site is not my doing.  That's part of the wrap if you want to embed videos from their site.  For now I'll use Metacafe because of the better video quality over YouTube but I could do without the advertisements at the end of the clips.

GHC: Your beloved Dodgers come to town tomorrow.  New ACE Jason Schmidt on the hill.  Should be a solid spring matchup.  I'll report back following the contest...

EDIT: Forgot to mention GHC, I ran into Bill Bavasi yesterday scouting at the Twins game...

Any of you guys rock hounds (not as in Music) that would like to dig up some gems :) in your own back yard (Oregon that is). E-mail me for the web site.

Now what does this have to do with football? Not a thing.

WC11, I knew I got lucky with the Photo shoot, :o  kinda made my day, Thanks.

One last Glanville and PSU story.........

From John Canzano  ( not my favorite sports writer by the way) & The Oregonian...........

"Glanville's not the perfect coach, heavens no. A commuter college with modest resources, no proven history of support from the fan base and a shaky future would never be in the running for the perfect football coach. They got a guy who can motivate, and entertain, and coach though. and right now that feels right."

I  wonder if Jerry will leave tickets  for Elvis at the PSU ticket both?    ;)   ;) And sad but true....... The Church of Elvis in Portland closed down, but the lady still runs a web site! Portland, you just gotta love it! :D

swede, what the heck, send me the site please, when I'm pulling weeds I might come across something.
