Congrats to both Allan and Stanley from Whitwater.  Even though I would have rather seen michael go to the Seahwks with the pick after KC's (not as many tight ends on the seattle roster and I would have a chance to see him play when he got the opportunity to), I'm just glad the big guy got taken at all.

"Allan started 29 of 36 games at Whitworth. He caught 118 passes for 2,202 yards (18.7 avg) with a school career record 29 touchdowns. He scored 174 points and also recorded three tackles (two solos) on special teams."- from nfl prospect site

2000 yards is impressive.  I wouldnt be suprised if they build him up to be a tackle though.....

Congrats to Michael Allan who is the 21st pick in the seventh round (#231 overall) by the Kansas City Chiefs.

I know it was a long, nervous wait for Michael and his family.  Hopefully this will be a good place for him as the Chiefs looked at a Division III player in 2005 at the same position (Michael Kallfelz, St. John Fisher, Undrafted Free Agent).

Congrats to Michael Allan and Whitworth.  Best of luck, Michael, and show them that D3 can play at the next level!

Here you go Whitworth and NWC fans:

SCHOOL IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Whitworth: Chiefs tight end Michael Allan is the first player drafted from this small Presbyterian college in Washington since Eric Kelley in 1972. The Pirates compete in the Northwest Conference against schools like Puget Sound and Lewis and Clark. Allan led the Pirates with 1,100 receiving yards, but scouts should head back to Whitworth and take a look at their defensive backs: the Pirates picked off 28 passes last season, with Ryan Marshall and Jay Tully (both seniors in 2007) grabbing seven each. If Marshall or Tully is drafted next year, remember where you first read about them. (Taken from an article on FOXSports.)

Here is the full article.

Way to go Mike Allan.  But this is just the beginning.  The hard work starts now.

Mike has alway promoted the NWC when asked about the level of competition he faced: "But Allan also noted that the best players in the NWC are talented enough to compete with some of the Division I players he competed against at the East-West Shrine Bowl." Gordon Mann's article.

Hopefully this opens the doors for more players...

The next level is DII.

I can't decide whether or not I'm horribly annoyed by this comment or if I completely agree with it...I think it may be both.

It is the truth and at any rate can be regarded as a compliment that an NFL team would be seriously attracted by Allan's potential to play approximately 4 levels above where he has been playing.

I noticed Puget Sound got a little ribbing from the ESPN crew when they reviewed the pick....
