Congrats to Mr. Allan on being drafted by K.C. and representing westcoast d3 football.

It is the truth and at any rate can be regarded as a compliment that an NFL team would be seriously attracted by Allan's potential to play approximately 4 levels above where he has been playing.

It CAN be regarded as a compliment but, somehow, I don't think that is how you meant it.   ;)  There are a lot of reasons why players choose to play at the D-3 level, (geography, the opportunity to play two sports (in Derek Stanleys case), the desire to play right away and not wait their turn, etc.)  It isn't always because they don't have any other choice.  I believe that Mr. Allen and the rest of the D-3 players drafted or signed have proven that they are not your typical D-3 player and are not "playing up 4 levels," in actuality.  Congrats to all!

Here you go Whitworth and NWC fans:

SCHOOL IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Whitworth: Chiefs tight end Michael Allan is the first player drafted from this small Presbyterian college in Washington since Eric Kelley in 1972. The Pirates compete in the Northwest Conference against schools like Puget Sound and Lewis and Clark. Allan led the Pirates with 1,100 receiving yards, but scouts should head back to Whitworth and take a look at their defensive backs: the Pirates picked off 28 passes last season, with Ryan Marshall and Jay Tully (both seniors in 2007) grabbing seven each. If Marshall or Tully is drafted next year, remember where you first read about them. (Taken from an article on FOXSports.)

Here is the full article.

Interesting that they mention the NWC and use  Puget Sound and Lewis and Clark as the teams that he played against.  ???
Maybe 51 consecutive winning seasons happens all the time these days.  ;D

I too want to wish Mr Allan the best of luck...... At the next Level!

Frank.....I think he has used up his College ellegibility, so the next level would be the NFL, would it not?
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

There are layers of minor professional leagues between DIII and the NFL.

First off, I want to say that I am generally a "glass half full" type of guy BUT BE's performance over this past weekend of NFLE action was abysmal. To be fair though, his entire team stunk big time. Cody Pickett was almost as terrible and their offensive line may be on par with that of a good 9th grade team. The Rhein Fire are awful. BE got lucky in that two picks he threw were called back due to penalties- one was retruned for a TD. To be fair, BE had no time to throw and took some HARD hits, but he constantly over/under threw receivers and always threw into blanket double coverage.

I wish I was being harsh, but I do not think I am.

ughhh.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

I still don't understand NFL Europe I guess.  So no matter how good/bad a QB plays, they still get pretty much even playing time?  And if thats not the case all over the league, then why do the fire keep doing it with BE and Pickett?  I mean, neither has been great but it seems to me like (even this week) BE has performed slightly better in all of their games.  ???

(509),

I'm not sure either.  I'm still going to put up the clip tomorrow...warts and all.  The Fire kill themselves all the time with penalties and when they're not holding, jumping offside, they are throwing look out blocks left and right....couple with the fact that BE had a sub par game and couple it with Pickett playing his typical bad game...it was ugly.

Spirit,

I think he's pressing and trying to force the action but you're right....he didn't play great at all.  I don't think it took the NFLE long to figure out that PK Sam is their only real WR threat.  However, there are 7 more weeks so he'll have plenty of chances to bounce back.

On another note Puget Sound repeated as the NWC All-Sports Champs.  The 'Cats spring sports once again made a great charge up the leaderboard but we came up short.

For the first half of the season, a lot players split time with others at their position in NFL Europa. But in the second half of the season, look for the coaches to play the better player most, if not all the game. In the first 5 games last season with Frankfurt, Craig Ochs only played 2 halves in 2 games. But the coaching staff saw that he was the best QB on the roster and he started at QB from there on out, leading them to the championship.

pennst,
Thanks for the insight.  This post is not only to give you props but also get myself closer to 200 so I can give out karma for that kinda info in the future.  Congrats to UPS on another all-sports trophy  :P

My favorite college team.  Two names for you, John Hufnagel and Larry Ludwig, class of '73.  Those Buckeyes are my number two and have fallen from grace in my household.

Thanks for the informative post.

I agree that BE was visibly pressing. I think he wants to go down the field, but the fire lack the athletes. He threw in double coverage a lot, but it looked like EVERY guy was double covered! Pickett did look much better, although he did start the 4th quarter even though a drive did not carry over. Things will get better, I am sure.

Catdomealumni.com special: Brett Elliott Game 3 Action

It's not very pretty but here is the compiled action of Brett's 3rd NFLE game.  The video is a little sub par in terms of transitions...I'll fix tonight.

Sabretooth Tiger

Yo fellas . . . things seem awfully quiet in the great Northwest . . . are you all out enjoying the long days and some rare sunshine or have the latte machines broken down? ;) ;D

Here's some late breaking news from your southern brothers, in case you've missed it, from Oxy's website and some SCIAC discussion . . . have a local pale ale or summerfest for me:

Collins Nabs a Giant Opportunity

Los Angeles (May 2, 2007)

Start spreading the news...another Occidental Tiger is heading to New York.

Quarterback Andy Collins '07 has agreed to join the New York Giants as an unsigned free agent. Collins is the second Occidental Tiger to join the Giants in the past month. Former punter Cory Ohnesorge '06 signed a free agent contract with the team April 10.

Collins will participate in a rookie mini-camp May 11 in preparation for training camp in July. He will compete with starter Eli Manning, a former No.1 draft pick, and reserves Jared Lorenzen (Kentucky) and Tim Hasselbeck (Boston College) for a spot on the team.

Collins, a three-time SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year, prepared for his professional opportunity with successful performances at the Texas vs. The Nation Game Feb. 2 in El Paso and the American Football Coaches Association Aztec Bowl Dec. 16, where he became the first quarterback named Aztec Bowl Most Valuable Player.

Collins is the second Oxy quarterback in the NFL.  Jack Kemp '57 played for the Buffalo Bills and San Diego Chargers before launching a successful political career.  Tyler PaoPao '03 spent part of the 2003 season as a backup with the Ottawa Renegades of the Canadian Football League. Collins is the ninth Tiger invited to an NFL training camp and the 13th in pro football overall.

Running back Vance Mueller '86, a fourth-round draft choice, played six seasons with the L.A. Raiders from 1986-1992.
