D O.C. -

I remember Willamette had a 28 year old d-lineman a few years back, Matlock? was his name, who was a stud.  He had been in the military I think, before going back to school.

Matlock was that old? Damn, I had no clue. I heard that he had been at Wyoming, but I didn't think he was that old.

All this talk of 20 somethings is child's play.....check out ESPN.com on today the 22nd  and go to college football and read the story about the 59 year old who made a d3 squad....  I don't think we are talking about a kicker either....it's stories like this that give D3 not much weight unfortunately.  But, good luck to him.

Saw Coach Tully on the news the other night....no specialness or guy, but definitely got a shirt pull by the v-neck and a slight shrug of the shoulders if you know what I mean.

Willamette also had the late 20's early 30's noseguard in the late 90's early 2000's....I think his name was Kelvin Wells....quite a large gentleman....moved pretty well acutally

I hope this above average aged football player isn't a trend of the future.  Otherwise, half the State of Texas will be trying out.  Way too many "I coulda' been something" dads here.  A common greeting between men here is, "Where did you play in high school?"  Makes for lively Friday night and Saturday afternoon games, though.

I have a year of Elg. left, the only problem is that all of my hits would have to be with a FUNGO

The amount of returning starters from Redlands is decieving.  If you look at their two deep from the Whitworth game (although it was the first game of the season) they return about 3-4 guys.  So somewhere along the line this years starters got a chance to start a few games.  Heck, looking at starters this year at Whitworth who started in at least 1 game last year for the Pirates...yup, 20 returning starters, and all 11 on defense  ;)

GHC,
UPS and PLU can use all the help they can get...surely an old Wildcat with a year left could start up there in Tacoma, right?    ;D

True about Redlands (except that I don't think they played Whitworth in 2006, did they?)---not to mention, Whitworth has returning starters from a playoff team that lost 1 game.  Redlands has returning starters from a team that lost 5 games.  Heck, I think Lewis and Clark is returning nearly every player on their team this year.  We'd all better be worried about them! :)  (though I predict they upset somebody this year-----bear kitties?).....Point being---sometimes you don't really want the guys you had last year to come back for another season....  :-\
Go Cats!

Football starts next week for 2 NWC teams. Menlo at UW-Stout on Friday and Willamette at WOU on Saturday. This is a reminder for the 7 who signed up to make your picks. For those that still might be interested, there is a NWC Pick 'em thread as a child to the General Football Board. LET"S GET READY TO RUUUUUUUUUUUMBLE!!!! ;D

Wrong, they return almost their whole starting unit on defense. Not just a few situational game starters.

RFB,
Looking at last years two deep and this years season preview, here's a list of guys who weren't starters but appaerently started a game or two according to the preview....Tom Romaine, all of the o-linemen but Schwass are listed as returners but didn't play against Whitworth, the tight ends didn;t play against Whitworth, and their QB's were different every series (but Saras was listed as the starterlast year).  On defense its a whole lot of the same...I belive you that these guys started but they are not the same starters Whitworth saw last season.  And from what I understand these aren't the starters several other teams saw last year.

I am sitting on the edge of my seat to read your first 2 a day report ;D
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Gee...it would be nice to sit around and count how many starters you have back..... but think about it....it's a new season....anything can happen! So be happy and all that....and good things will come your way.....  :D

My My, Interesting blurb in the USA today on 8/24/07.
Along with a nice picture of Justin Beaver running for a Td is this,

Along with Headlines, Story lines and Players to watch in DIII was a little line about
St. Johns (Minn).
St.Johns usually finds a way to contend, but the arrest of running back ( I will leave his name out for now) on July 26 on charges he had sex with a minor could have a lasting effect on the team.......................and the Stiftungsfestivities.  ;)

Like the line says, they find a way to contend and I'm sure they will again.
I think It's time we meet again.
I'm ready for some Football!! ;D

GO WILDCATS
LEAVE NO DOUBT '07
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

I would think St. John's will be just fine.  Looking back on last year their runnning back was good, but I don't remember anything special about him.  With 180 kids turning out every year...and lets pretend their are 24 different positions (counting a K and a P) with each position having an equal number of kids at it...that mean they have at least 7 more guys waiting in line for this guy's spot.  St. John's is one of the most storied programs of DIII football and I kinda doubt this incident will affect anyone other than the individual involved.
