That was a good win for the 'Cats yesterday, and we needed that after last year, and the loss last week. We're on track now.

The tailgating was great and Olinemom enjoyed meeting everyone. We took her to PDX this morning.

My thoughts on the game are that the offense is looking good, and the defense will gel with time and a bit more experience. The coaches will take care of it. Remember that in the past Joe Smith could concentrate solely on the D and he is the master. Now he's having to spread himself around as the head coach. We need to be patient.

No worries about the kicking game, however.

Coco,

How were Olinemom's "nationwide famous brownies"?  I suspect with that group of hungry vultures they didn't last very long!   Needless to say Olinemom, Pat and Keith could not have picked a better game to attend than Saturday (unless they had been at the Catdome for the Whitewater show stopper game of two years ago).  8)

Good thoughts all....whoever said Hardin-Simmons was not a slouch is right. They were a great team. it will be interesting to see how they do in league. They had some big quick players out there. Their qb #7 was really wild. If they can beat MHB they may do some damage. They had a very good running back  ...#5.

I thought our O-line did great on pass protection but didn't really do much on run blocking. I thought all the running backs did pretty well...I'd like to see more of #27 because he has some size, speed and seems to run forward up the hole rather that sideways.

What can you say about our kicker..the guy's a monster. Plus Trevor and the receivers are bringing back memories of the Brett Elliot Days!

I can't believe how great it was to see both Pat and Keith at the game from d3football.com.......how cool is that! I asked Pat if he was coming to the PLU game and he said he would consider it! So let's all chip in and get him a ticket!

Good luck on the principles on coming back out to anything short of a semi-final game.

I'll chip in on the band...they were fine when they were allowed to play. There appear to be many restrictions on them,
The new PA system was fine except for a few loud squeaks.

Congrats to the Cats and especially PLU!  Like I've said, the non-conference wins that keep on coming are great for the NWC.  I would love to see two NWC teams back in the playoffs and wins against HSU and UW-River Falls help.

A few notes on the Pirates game...
1.  The offensive line showed up to play, fixing the problems from the previous weeks.  284 rushing yards, two 100 yard rushers, and much better pass protection.

2.  The defense came to play.  After a good, but not great, outing against Redlands the defense dominated La Verne.  1 rushing yard was allowed, 3 int's, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 touchdown.

3.  Andy Largent still hasn't missed an extra point or field goal.  While this may not seem very impressive/important, losing an all-american kicker left a question mark at the position.  Field goals could very well be the difference when big conference games like PLU and Lifnield come around.

4.  Whitworth will continue to keep the ball on the ground (even against a very large, but slow, Stout team this week).  While previous Whitworth teams have put up points in rather large numbers, this years team won't necessarily have to.  Although after hearing about Jon Luke's game this last saturday I don't think the Pirates are in trouble if Kemp continues to struggle throwing the ball.

Disclaimer:  I realize that La Verne isn't a very good team and that much more will be learned about Whitworth's ability and consistency next week against Stout, but you can't ask for a better game from them than what they gave on Saturday (too bad it came 1 week late).

WC'64,

It was awesome to have Pat and Keith out here, and Olinemom was just talking about that Whitewater game.

The brownies were incredible. Mrs. C has a few of the world-famous recipes, and will bring some to the next tailgate you attend.

Good win for the Cats. The first big step toward the playoffs. The Linfield win effectively eliminated HSU from the playoffs. For those rooting for HSU to beat UMHB this year, it ain't gonna happen. The CRU owns a four game winning streak over the Cowboys and UMHB has won 6 out of the last 7 meetings. Last year's HSU team was one of their best in recent memory. Lat year the pair met twice - in the regular season and the first round of the playoffs. The first meeting was close for awhile, but the CRU pulled away in the 3rd quarter. The second meeting was all UMHB.

This year's CRU could be the best in the short history of the UMHB program. There is power and speed in the backfield - Quincy Daniels has to be one of the fastest players in DIII. A 6'7" wide-out that is athletic and agile will keep defenses honest, especially in the red-zone. And it seems that Coach Fredenburg is letting Josh Welch  throw the ball more this year. Add a fast, fast, fast defense to the offensive fire power and UMHB beats HSU by 21+ this year. To steal a line from GHC: Phone it in.

I expect the Cats to return to the post season this year. It would great to have a UMHB vs. Linfield match-up in the playoffs.

Oh man...am I glad we won that one....The Coco's and Tuxguy's, Wildcat11, Swede, O-linemom, Pat & Keith and even some weirdo from Mongolia were all there.  Rumor had it that even Bluenote was somewhere in the vicinity.  Even the cheerleaders showed up at the tailgate party....Thanks for all the eats and drinks there...I know that takes a lot of work.

I was really impressed with the opening introduction on the scoreboard video....good sound and great music to the intro...."4 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS...39 ALL-AMERICANS...52 CONSECUTIVE WINNING SEASONS...."  That was really cool....BTW Pat and Keith were really down to earth guys and took in the tailgate as well.  I would sure like to hear their comments on their overall experience at the Catdome...I agree with Bluenote...lets ante up for their return trip to the PLU game.

As for the game...It was one of the most entertaining that I've seen the Cats play...I have to give credit to Hardin Simmons...they could have folded early when the score was 26-7...but came back to take the lead and gave us all a good scare....more later...my battery is going dead....
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

No, I didn't. I said something else, which is not for public discussion at this time.

Thanks Cris..Kelly Bird and I collaborated on that clip and I think we came up with a cool introduction piece.  That will be running about at the 9-8 minute mark before kickoff of each home game this season.  I'll post that clip up during Catdomealumni.com's next video season.

BTW....the we have a few new posts up on the blog:  ADvantage Catdome.  Be sure to forward the blog onto your Linfield buddies.

Hello Gentleman,

It has been a year or two since I have been on the Post Patterns, but since I now live in the great state of Oregon, I will have to be more involved.

I was not healthy enough yet to attend Saturday's game, but I was thrilled to see the outcome.  Hopefully I will be healthy enough to attend the WU game in two weeks.

Go Cats!
GO CATS!!

My thoughts...Games like that one are hard to listen to for various reasons. I miss seeing all of the big plays, and it is also hard to get a real gauge on if the defenses have any shot. I am really happy with the effort though- scherer's performance was unreal. 10 different receivers getting the ball sounds real nice to me and like a potential headache in the making for many other coaches. All in all, a great week.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

There were a lot of receivers open in the middle of the field. However, Scharer only really missed on a handful of passes all day.

It was nice to see -- I've seen some inaccurate passing so far this season elsewhere. :)
