D-Train,

congrats on your Pick 'em board lead.  What do you know about Chapman.

Thanks and right back at you. The Chapman game is a little dangerous. I don't know much about them, other than they beat us down there last fall. I've heard they get a handful of very talented kids on an otherwise average roster which some years gels into a decent team and some years doesn't. Sounds like this year they are a little ahead of their typical development and they handled Menlo with some ease. Second-year head coach appears to have some energy and buy-in from the players. Here's their season preview:

I think the Lutes will come out and play well in their home opener. But it will be a solid test.

Bob Owens has very good juco connections. When he coached a Whittier they won a SCIAC title with some very good talent. Most of them were juco transfers. I would expect him to have some on the roster and even more in years to come. When Chapman started up their program in 1994 they had some shady transfer/admission policies in place that allowed them to get some crazy athletes. I heard Chapman cracked down on those policies but count on Coach Owens having some talent. He is a very good recruiter.

Thanks for the link.  I was thinking Menlo didn't do that bad but looking at the stats of the Chapman game the Menlo offense was brutal, or the Chapman defense was very good.  1 of 14 on 3rd down and under 150 total yards, ouch!  Even with that though they didn't get blown out.

Looks like we can put up the points in bunches, BIG 5 style (was that still in use when you played?).  I'm excited about the Lutes possibilities this year but worried that so far we've been living off the other teams turnovers and our quick strikes.  Of course if one can sustain that, then no worries.

RFB, thanks for the input.  Looks to be a good game.  Hope to listen in on the Internet but it overlaps the local high school game so I may miss the 2nd half.

Hi Team,

Great win this weekend Cats.  I am quietly excited about the Lutes start this year.  Obviously, we haven't played the cream of the NWC crop yet, but hope is brewing in Parkland.  Looking forward to this weekend and going to battle with the monsters from Chapman....

Sounds like you get a bye Saturday like the 'cats. Don't pour it on.......oh well what the heck, shoot for 60. :)

According to the Linfield Roster he's a running back.  ;)
The wildcats have some very good frehman running backs.

Big thank you to swede for his hospitality this weekend...His guest room is a Wildcat museum in the making.  I slept in purple and red blankets with a Wildcat pillow beneath the Wildcat logo adorning the wall.

I am in Omaha today....people around here moaning about some game they lost to some team from California...what is that all about...don't they know the best game in college football this weekend was played at the Catdome :o

It was a real pleasure Cris. I'm glad you enjoyed the stay.

If we shoot for 60 it's because we gave up 50. but after the River-Falls game I suppose that's a possibility.

Bye week blahs....hmmm.....not much to talk about when the Cats are on a bye.  Nice feature on the Lutes and their facial hair.  Should be interesting to see how the Lutes play as the competition stiffens up.  Same arguement being throw around on the SCIAC board about Oxy.  At least the Lutes played UW-RF which is certainly a bigger challenge than L&C or Menlo (in my opinion).  Still, the LUTE vs. CAT game could be a barn burner if both D's continue to allow pts like they have in the first two games AND the O's continue to score as they have.  Against Whitworth, it's shaping up to be a classic Offense vs. Defense game...but then again, I'm getting ahead of myself...damn bye weeks.....Maybe we should offer to play somebody twice...I noticed that Eastern Oregon plays everybody twice.....who would be willing to play the Cats twice...maybe UPS since their coach says they're the best team in the NWC or.....Lewis and Clark---what else do they have to lose?  Just some thoughts......man can the next week and half go any slower...... :P
Go Cats!

No kidding, the bye week is especially tough to sit through after such an exciting win. Bluenote's idea of going to the Willamette/Southern Oregon game might be a good one.

Speaking of Eastern Oregon (MonroviaCat), does anyone know if we are going to end up playing them next year in order to get a 9th game? Haven't heard anything about a different D3 opponent taking the spot of the Hardin-Simmons game in '08/'09. I remember WC11 saying we might have to play another NAIA team if we can't get a game. Eastern Oregon and Asuza Pacific come to mind. Man, I hope we can get another home and home with a D3 team.

Whitworth/UW-Stout might be kind of interesting. Remember the Pirates dramatic 14-13 2OT win last year when the Stout kicker kept blowing it? That win was the first in a line of close victories for Whitworth until they lost to SJU.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Proud Papa Joe

Thanks to all you CATS fans for welcoming my Wife and I. We are very proud to have a son in the Linfield Family. Hope to meet some of you at the games.

GO CATS

Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.

Foss,

I hope it doesn't come to that for you 'Cat fans, but Azusa and Humboldt have a lot more room on their schedule than EOU. The double round-robin schedule of the Frontier leaves the Mountianeers only needing to fill one non-conference slot. NAIA-member SOU is their obvious choice for that game.

Hey d-train....I like the front page story. Have you grown yo 'stash yet?  :-*

What's next?  Are the Lutes all going to get Perms when they the Cats for the added unity factor?

How does he keep his hair so 80's curly?
