I wasn't at the game last year but in 2004 he was brutal.  So if you've got a new guy, my apologies.  Linfield isn't the only place that has a good PA guy, in fact most are very good.  The quality that they share is that they understand what they are there for.  They aren't there to pump up the crowd, they aren't there to give you the play by play, they aren't the reason you came out to the game.  They give you information.  "Time out Willamette", "Starting at number 5, Quarterback Brett Elliott", Pass Complete to Casey Allen gain of 12, first down Linfield...etc. etc.  Not "great run off the right end by Billy Walker for ANOTHER Looooggggeeerrr Firrrrrrrst Dowwwwwwwn!!!"  or "GREAT RUN BY RORY LEE CHOPPING DOWN DEFENDERS FOR A GAIN OF 25!"

Not a huge deal by the way...just annoying to me
Couldn't agree with you more.  I hadn't noticed the UPS announcer as a player, I'm not sure how long he has been around.  We have our own version of a colorful PA guy in the SCIAC.  Every game at Pomona, it's the same crap announcing.  The majority of the game is marred by "Another first down for YOOUURR SAGEHENS!!!!" or "GET OUT OF YOUR SEATS B/C HERE COMES THE KICKOFF TO YOOOOUUURRR SAGEHENS!"  The latter usually comes after he has conveniently forgotten to announce that the visiting team has just scored.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Downtown,

I don't know if you've ever been to Mile High or if it ever comes over the TV but when I went to a couple of Broncos games every time, and I mean EVERY time the opponent throws an incompletion the PA announcer says "pass was (...long pause as the crowd chimes in...) IN-COM-PLETE.

speedybigboy

Downtown, when did you change your "signature" line?  :)

Wow, that PA guy does sound bad.  That must be before my time in Loggerland.  I think that Puget Sound's recent experience of hosting NCAA events (not in football, I know) has probably calmed down their game ops a bit and made them a little more professional.  As a fan, I enjoy going to games, minus the obnoxious fans but those can come from both sides!

As for Kavin, I don't know if he is coming back this week but I hope so.  Spencer Crace is a good quarterback but heading into NWC play, I think the Logs need some experience leading the offense.  I don't have any real connection to the athletic department, minus a few friendly conversations on game day, so I don't really know who will be taking snaps this week.

On another note, I heard that Isaac Blum didn't play last week because he was observing Yom Kippur.  I don't know if he would have made a huge difference on offense or special teams but I thought it was interesting that one of the better players in the conference took a game day off for personal reasons.  Not an excuse at all, just an interesting factioid.

When all the "Redlands is back" talk got to me after their win over Whitworth... ;)

QuoteI can cut the kids some slack because unlike a pac-10 player, they  don't have reporters asking them questions everyday of the week.

Nor do they take 'speech classes' where the focus is on athletes interviewing each other in prep for the real thing.

Since the wild wolv meer beerkats are missing let's all say something nice about them since they won't be reading anything. I'll start...

Willamette has                    pretty gold on their helmets.

Willamette was the one school that actually gave me a recruiting call when I was applying to colleges.... (no I didn't end up playing at Linfield)...
Go Cats!

Willamette................is a convenient word for me to claim I said after I utter a certain curse word it rhymes with and someone tells me they don't like to hear cussing.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

QuoteQuick question on Williams...Can he really accurately throw the football?  He missed some guys last year against Linfield that would have made that game a bit interesting.  Obviously he's improved but is he a force slingin' it this year?

I noticed the same thing when the loggers played the Pirates last year...but according to early season reports Williams has the arm strength of Brett Favre, the accuracy Tom Brady, and Payton Manning's game management skills  ;D

Reports I got was that Williams seperated his shoulder against La Verne...I would say three weeks is pushing it for a return date, but I didn't get a report on the severity and to which shoulder it was.

I think the UPS backup did just fine...277 passing yards?  thats gotta be an all-time record for a logger QB  :D

coco

Talking Willamette, are we?

I nominate them for the worst PA guy. "And it's ANOTHER....WILLAMETTE....FIRST.....
DOWN!!!!"

The last time we played over there Little Coco had the tires slashed on his truck -- right there in the parking lot. I'm sure it couldn't have been because of the Linfield sticker on it.

I do miss Brig, though. He was fun.
Two words:  THE STREAK

Gig Harbor Cat

Not to mention the Punkass drunk student that was railing on the two elder Linfield fans as they were leaving the game.  That was the night that 11 and I almost went to jail for upholding the Cats honor.  Anyway the complete story is good for a couple of laughs at this weeks tailgate.  Also I am bringing down some special music for this weeks game.  Its only fitting.  Ha you will love this one !!!!

See ya

While we are chiming in on annoying PA announcers, the guy at Boise State has to rank right up there. Shrill is a good word....

Interesting stuff on ups. I find it hard to take them seriously, especially when their conduct is so laughable. Their coach has been exchanging emails with Cale Gundy from Oklahoma state I bet.

Willamette this weekend? I am sure a win is in the cards, and the cats need to punish them for scheduling the game at 3pm (5pm my time). Very inconvenient.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.
