FIRST THINGS FIRST.

GOOD MORNING CAT FANS

HOPE EVERYBODY MADE IT HOME SAFELY.

HOW ABOUT THEM CATS. DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. WAY TO STEP UP AND SHOW WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF. YOU CONTROLLED YOUR TEMPER WHEN SOU WAS PUSHING THE BUTTONS. THATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLAY FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME AND PLAYING FOR YOURSELF.

OLINE DID ASUME PICKING UP THE SOU BLITZES ON A REGULAR BASIS. SOU DEFENSE PLAYED HARD AND CAME FAST.

THANK GOD FOR TURNOVERS. THEY WERE IN OUR FAVOR LAST NIGHT.

HURT US IN THE 3RD QUATER BUT THE BOYS HUNG IN THEIR AND PLAYED HARD.

AS FOR THE NINETY YARD RUN. SOU WAS RIDING A HIGH RIGHT THEN AND THEY NEVER GAVE UP. IF SOU WAS MORE DISCIPLINE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT GAME. BUT WHEN YOU HAVE A BUNCH OF INDIVIDUALS PLAYING FOR THEMSELVES THEN THATS WHAT HAPPENS. YOU GET PERSONAL FOULS AND YOU LOSE GAMES.

Nice win for the 'Cats - always an accomplishment to get out of Ashland with a W, doesn't matter how.

Big break for the 'Cats with Willamette somehow falling to UPS. 'Cats need Willamette to lose another conference game (I think Whitworth or PLU will get them), since the Bearcats hold the head-to-head edge over Linfield. Willamette continues to amaze me with their up and down play the last few years. Seems like on some days they can play with almost anyone (beating the 'Cats this year and losing in OT on the road to UMHB the year the Crusaders made it to the Stagg) and some days will lose to teams who have nowhere near their talent.

The NWC title is up for grabs this year - who wants it most?

coco - yep

CATS just need to win out and let the chips fall where they fall. If we win out we will be the NWC Champs.

GO CATS

Foss....Willamette now has 2 in-region losses and 4 overall losses. I don't see how they could ever make the playoffs. But in order for Linfield to make the playoffs it's pretty simple...they have to win out. The same can be said about PLU or Whitworth. So this should really make the remaining games exciting to watch across the board. Linfield still plays top teams in PLU and Whitworth. PLU has to play Linfield and Willamette. And Whitworth has to play Willamette, UPS and Linfield (along with Azusa Pacific down there... which is a good team)

Did anyone happen to notice the front page story on the Sunday Oregonian sports page?  :P

I can't wait for Saturday. The Wife and I are flying up Sat. morning. Hope to get to Linfield in time for Tail Gate Party.

GO CATS

bluenote....I gotcha. Sorry, I should have been more clear in my post. I was referring to the (potential) NWC conference title ('Cats still need to win some tough conference games), not the playoffs. I would think Willamette would need to lose two CONFERENCE games for Linfield to win the NWC title, since they beat Linfield head-to-head. I agree with you that Willamette now has NO hope of making the playoffs and the 'Cats (or Whitworth or PLU) would probably get in IF they win out.

manuel, glad to hear you and the wife are making it to the game. Don't feel left out, just check out your karma to posts ratio - it's pretty impressive.

....my brain isn't working properly yet today but is there a chance that somehow the winner of the NWC could stay home and a second place NWC team go to the playoffs? For example what would happen if both Linfield and Willamette won out? Which team would most likely go to the playoffs? Linfield would end up 7-2 (5-1) and Willamette would end up 6-4 (5-1)...... ??? Wouldn't Willamette be the NWC Champ being the winner of the head to head? But they would have 2 in region losses along with 4 overall losses and Linfield would only have 1 in region loss and 2 over all losses.

Foss

Blue, my guess is since the NWC teams are in Pool B (no auto bid for the conference winner), they would take the team that best met the playoff selection criteria. Since Linfield would have a better in region winning percentage (not the only thing looked at but part of the criteria - for instance, in-region head to head competition is also looked at) I would think the 'Cats would be selected over Willamette. Starting next year, the conference winner will get the auto bid (Pool A) regardless of their record.

Pat, out of curiousity, do you know if there has ever been an instance where a Pool B team was selected OVER their conference's winner?
