That was a poopy 1st half but the second half was GREAT! Very smart performance by the Wildcat Defense today! When was the last time PLU got snuffed?

MonroviaCat....or anyone...do you know when the last time PLU has been snuffed by anyone else, I was thinking it was over 10 years ago?

I couldn't find anything---I looked on PLU's site but didn't find an archive of scores.  It has been at least 7 years I think...

The cats offense really struggled in the first half today. They were never able to string more than a couple of plays together. 2 more turnovers, both in the red zone, after long, sustained drives. The cats cannot continue to make mistakes at critical junctures. There were way too many penalties on the offensive side as well. The block in the back on the screen pass was a questionable call but not a horrible one.
On the flip side, the defense looked outstanding. I understand PLU was without their #1 receiver but they could get absolutely nothing going. Their outside run game had no chance. The cornerbacks did an OUTSTANDING job in run defense; avoiding cuts, keeping outside leverage and squeezing after turning the play inside. The option had no chance. There were numerous times Bean and others were just waiting for the pitch so they could light up the tailback. Eventually PLU switched to the shovel option so they would quit losing yards. Besides the inside counter on 3rd and 27 that went for about 15 yards in the 1st quarter, PLU backs never got loose.

The bright side on the offensive side was Travis Masters and the running game again. He had a couple of solid runs. Nothing amazing, just good running both inside and out in the second half. Although I'm biased, I think a lot of the credit goes to the offensive line on those. There were numerous times were there were big holes and he was through to the secondary without getting touched. The o-line got a bit of a push up front, got off onto the backers and covered guys up. This is where Masters has stepped up compared to the other backs. There was maybe only one time where I thought he made a bad read on a block. Everything else was textbook.

Overall a good win. As usual, lots of things that will be addressed in the film rooms and hopefully improved upon.

"It marked the first time PLU had been shutout on the football field since 1979, ending a streak of scoring games at 293." (from the linfield game summary)

N0body expected that shutout. 41 years in the making?

Gonna love La Boehme.

APU 21 Rats 14 in the 2nd Quarter---Rats running the ball well against APU;  APU passing well against the Rats---could be a barn burner.
Go Cats!

MonroviaCat

APU 21 Whitworth 21 at the half:  Rats have rushed for 174 yds and APU has pashed for 228.  Rats have the turnover advantage +2 (one an INT that set up a short TD another a fumble recovery when APU was approaching the redzone <at the rats 24>).  Wish I had gone to this one---sounds like a good game!
Go Cats!

APU takes first drive of 2nd half down a short field (following a 50 + yd kick off retun) and scores a TD 28-21 APU
