IMO there is a 0% chance they don't take the NWC Champion as a Pool B...especially if it's Linfield with wins against PLU, Hardin-Simmons and hopefully Whitworth...

There's been three teams not named Mount Union that have won the Stagg Bowl in the last 10 years and two of the three are from the NWC.  Their champ is getting in...

This doesn't really work that way, though. Past playoff performance isn't in the criteria.

Well...I was trying to give them some credit. I guess we lost to Willamette so we shouldn't jump the gun like you guys say.

MonroviaCat....I meant in the playoffs...do you think anybody in the SCIAC would beat Whitworth in the playoffs?

Yes, Redlands beat them in the opener and I'm confident they could do it again. I watched the whole game and their stud running back had 58 yards on 17 carries/2.8 average. Whitworth is a very good football team but give the SCIAC some credit they deserve.
Agreed.  A good Redlands team went North and came back with a big win.  Oxy has had to play tough this season, but has proven to be the better team in each contest when the final whistle blows.  I think either team could beat Whitworth in the playoffs.

I'd actually also give the nod to Cal Lutheran if they hadn't just recently lost their starting QB due to some broken ribs and a punctured lung.  They were on a 3-0 run -- and looking to challenge Oxy for the SCIAC Championship -- until this week with a tough loss to Chapman.
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Pat, I had a feeling you'd get me on that ;)...I maintain that when humans are involved in a decision, if it's a toss up, they use anything and everything that they have at their disposal...including past performance regardless of what it says in their trusty little handbook.  Let's be honest, they can't even get mileage correct, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that they would take other things into account.   :D

I think with some of the results in college football in general this season, it's pretty evident that if you don't bring your A game every week, you can get beat.  There's no way that Linfield should have lost to Willamette this season, but when you just go through the motions and make mistakes, you get beat.  No doubt, whoever comes to Oxy to play in the 1st round will have a tough task ahead of them.

Great to see many of you at the game. The Longies were nearly as dynmaic as Linfield's D.

I broke my personal 3 game losing streak and was quite impressed with our d's ability to get to the ball. These past 3 games give us reason to be excited. The offense still makes too many mistake, but Masters is a true weapon.

Overall, it was an outstanding day at the dome. I was shocked by no trickeration from the lutes, but I guess they were having issues above and beyond running complicated trick plays.

Great Game 'Cats!
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

d-train...thanks for the info on the Pool B. And I was going to mention also that the SCIAC runner up and WIAC runner up are Pool C. Linfield is Pool B.

I think we do have to worry about Redlands and/or some of the WIAC teams getting in ahead of us...

Not really the way it works. The Whitworth-Linfield winner will be a strong Pool B candidate. They'd only be aced out if there are 3 better Pool B candidates (which I doubt); in which case they'd still have a chance at a Pool C bid. Redlands and any WIAC or IIAC runner-ups would be Pool C candidates.

Actually, y'all ought to be Johnnie fans for a while ... as hard as that might be for NWCers to stomach.

If the J's don't win out, Bethel could get the MIAC AQ and SJU would be in the pool c mix.

Yeah, somewhat. But again that only applies if Pool B is too crowded for the NWC champ (which is why Case Western and Salisbury are the more relevant teams to watch). Redlands should be rooting for St. John's, Central, and for someone to trip up UW-Stevens Point.

D O.C.

Perhaps...but we have complete faith in you winning any squeakers.

....ya, SJU came from behind in the last minute to beat Carlton so I have faith in them too.

Hmm, Blue, I'll that that win over a loss to a sub-.500 team that lost to the Gustavus skunkbears  (and UPS) ... :)

D-Train,
Pool B is going to get crazy. Case hasn't beaten Washington for years and Wesley has a very good chance of beating Salisbury, unless the Gulls dress in purple with UWW logos. And pool C is where things can get very crazy.

It's gone!

Blue you spoon fed him that one.....if I wasn't a Cat fan I would have given the same response.   Ouch that loss to Willamette keeps hurting  :-\
Go Cats!

oh well....I guess you can give him that much credit if you want to at our/my expense.... so whatever. :P

d-train....did you ever find out if there were 3 or 4 Pool B teams this year?
