At least Redlands still has a chance to make a trip up North.

Predictable, but still doesn't change any history...win a meaningful game in December and you'll stop getting messed with...

It is one thing when a team scores 70+ points and most of those points come before halftime.  But Willamette scored almost half of the 77 points after the game was decided (42-10) at halftime.

The Bearcats use a lot of deception in their offense.  It is impossible to tell from the box score, but I really wonder if they kept that up, or went straight at L&C.

I compare the game to PLU's 39-0 win over L&C when the Lutes used a lot of different guys and ran the ball far more often than normal.  In Whitworth's 48-7 win the Bucs only scored seven after halftime, and that was with a limited travel roster.  Even in Whitworth's 70-3 win last year (which I wasn't that proud of), the Pirates only scored twice after halftime.

The main concern is the overall health of the L&C program.  This is a team that the NWC needs to get better.  The worst thing for this conference would be for the school to drop football.
While L&C has gotten beaten up this year, I hear from a lot of people that they have played hard and have not quit-  A lot of their guys are freshmen and Sophmores so I think that in a year or two with a lot of experience and some more guys coming up through the new system we may see a pretty healthy Pioneer program.  I'm actually more concerned abut Menlo because they have been having trouble keeping guys on the team and have a very small student population to pull from!
Go Cats!

Payback for last years loss. I guess little Ricky had a tough time getting to the quarterback.

You can't look at that play by play and think that leaving your QB in is A)smart and B)called for.  If he were to get hurt they got what they deserved.  Don't get me wrong Linfield left BE in the game WAY too long routinely...but at least I can admit it...

An example of "doing it right" when blowing out an opponent.....Mount always gets their first team out of there as quick as possible....runs the ball exclusively......and kicks field goals when and if they get down near the goal line in a blow out.

Another example of Larry Kehres and Mount Union showing the right way to get things done.   8)

Could go back and forth all day on this but it still doesn't change the fact that you've never ever won a playoff game...besides you better not get ahead of yourself with the enjoy the popcorn lines, you're no lock for the playoffs either. :-\

Could you imagine the score if Mount tried to run it up!  YIKES :)

Coach Maynard has been a head coach for 20+ years and he know's what he is doing. The offense has played 2.5-3 quarters the past four weeks as they have been blowouts. Our young guys are still getting plenty of experience including our second and third string quarterbacks.

Redlands has won many playoff football games including runner up in an NAIA National Championship game. I never said that Redlands was a lock for the playoffs. Just that they have a chance as Linfield is staying home.

Sorry, I left out "in the Northwest" and "in the last 25 years."

Linfield fans are always pounding their chest about their NAIA Championships from the 80's. I just corrected you about Redlands football history.

This conference runs through Spokane now and until you can beat Whitworth, you have no argument against it (even though I know GHC and co. will have plenty to say).

(509),

That's a good question that will be answered next year.  I think you can say a conference "runs" through a team when they lose a great class of players and if they can maintain that title.  Linfield was able to do this in 2002 to 2003.

The past two years the conference has been up for grabs.  If the Rats can maintain after losing just about 95% of their defense next year then yeah then you can claim that all you want.

In terms of the game yesterday....we had plenty of chances and didn't get it done.  You can second guess the the 4th and short but do remember we had FIVE chances in the 4th quarter to get it done.  We didn't and we lost.

On a personal note to 509...I think your first posts after the game were pretty revealing about some of your character.  It was very surprising because I think that Linfield fans have been pretty responsive to your contribution to the board over the past year.

I am curious if Whitworth lost if you still would have expressed your feelings that you’ve “bottled up” all year long?  Rather brave to put everyone on blast after Whitworth wins.  Linfield fans take a ton of heat but they have the stones to put their neck out before big games and they don’t shrink when it gets shoved back in their face.

When it comes to things like running up the score, leaving his starters in during a blowout, and repeatedly throwing long when up by 35 at halftime, Mike Maynard certainly knows what he's doing.

OxyBob

So I guess Coach Maynard should have cleared the benches and let Whittier score possibly three-four touchdowns and let the final score be 35-28 possibly? Redlands is fighting for a playoff berth and they need the wins to be big. I believe that deep down the playoff commitee will take the final score into consideration. Redlands backups still got a quarter and a half to get some game experience as they have for the last four weeks.
