With the post that said the Redlands loss was a big factor that was the only thing I thought of.  To have a matchup of two teams that already played each other in the first round was what they were thinking.  I would have voted for the rematch rather than UWEC but I didn't get a vote.

Cmon boys, you REALLY didn't figure that they would give us an honest answer as to why the Rats are staying home.
We all know it comes down to ECB-- Then the one rep that the West coast gets has to travel to SJU, when in fact SJU should come west.  That my friends is home cookin at its best.  They have the rep and facility so its just like the old days when you can bid the game, only this bid is not public--  They also know that the NWC is a VERY tough conference.  Just ask the powerhouse Rowan team that came out here only to get distroyed.
The NWC has earned respect around the country--This just plain sucks.  It blows chowder !!!! No way of getting around it.  Our conference champ should be packing for a trip to the dance.  Personally I am glad that this is the last year we have to deal with this.

Redlands in a romp--SJU goes down

Phone it in--Its in the bank boys

Coco,
You know you are a travel vet when you get a Christmas card every year from the frickin Safari Inn like we do.

Wildcat'64

Whitworth earned the right to the "dance" ..... and the Cats would probably be in the same position even if we had won the NWC.  Using Mr. Burrow's logic both Linfield and Whitworth should have gone this year before UW Eau Claire.  Linfield was the runnerup but only lost it's other DIII game to a 4-6 team rather than a 3-7 team like UW Eau Claire.  Politics at it's finest hour---ugh!!!

I feel for the Whitworth players, coaches and fans.....Linfield was in the same position about 5 years ago and got passed over....it just doesn't feel good when you know you could whip half of the teams on the way to the "dance".

11,

Whitworth did get hosed. No doubt about it ...

But I disagree that Redlands should host. Redlands has a much worse loss to Oxy than SJU's defeat was to Bethel.

Sure, there are scheduling issues on the coast, but only 9 games and they bring in horrible NAIA Haskell Indian Nation (1-9)? Perhaps they should have made another trip up to the NWC ...

SJU played OAC and WIAC NCs and its only loss was to a soon-to-be top 15 team that has won nine straight. A conference AQ is no guarantee for a home playoff.

That said, I think this is a rough matchup for SJU because the Johnnies seem to expose a flaw per week.

Go Cats!

Very unfair of the NCAA to leave the NWC representative home....The NCAA committee certainly isn't about putting the best 32 teams on the field....I guess it's just about participation these days....if not...then what is it's agenda?

Pat....what is the reasoning behind UWEC going ahead of Whitworth? There has to be some type of explanation.....if you could find that out we would all be greatfull. This might mean that if Linfield would have beat Whitworth...they may not have gone either so I guess we all have a special interest in knowing what happened and the basis for the snub.

They both had 2 overall losses but Whitworth had 1 DIII loss where as UWEC had 2 DIII losses....what were the deciding factors??? It would seem that same division win/loss % would be primary criteria?

Still waiting for an answer on this......Pat? ???

Its not about the best anything.  Just read the MIAC board--Its about a great gate for the NCAA at a SJU home game.  Sad but True

Cracks me up

Thanks, George. Did he say anything about UW-Eau Claire's 2nd D3 loss to a 3-7 UW-River Falls and how that might play a "major factor"?

Foss,

Not one word about it.

Wow...I didn't realize that's who their other D3 loss was to...that makes it 1,000 times worse in my opinion!!!  AMAZING!  Can you imagine if this was Linfield??  I'm sticking up for Whitworth here and I hate them!!  What a joke...lose to a 3-7 team, don't win your conference and you get in over a team that loses to a playoff team and wins their conference...AMAZING!

Somehow, I personally believe the NWC schools need to avoid Division II and NAIA schools.    It can only hurt us.     It never seems to help us.

George,

Linfield has been and is currently trying to get those teams off of their schedule.  We can't fly to Texas or Minnesota or Ohio every other week and the pansies in the SCIAC won't schedule us despite sweetheart deals.  So it makes it difficult to get those D2 and NAIA games off of the slate.  Thankfully it sounds like we've gotten somebody in D3 that has some testicular fortitude to schedule us...

Downtown48,

Yes, I know; you are absolutely right.   I only wish the NCAA Playoff Selection Committee would recognize our problems in the NWC.

I'm jealous GHC. I have sent a few dollars at the Safari and I never get a Christmas card. ::)

I notice Linfield and St. John's have the same open dates in 09...Oxy is a lost cause, they probably have Linfield's number blocked...Lewis and Clark is on speed dial though! ;)

Downtown48,

That is very good humor!!!

AQ aside...maybe it's time for NWC teams to start scheduling each other twice to fill in our schedule with D3 competition only...BTW I am concerned that Menlo is not going to last in the conference for long...Who wants to play for a team that has to travel all over the countryside by bus just so they can lose.  That program is in trouble unless they start winning.

Does the NCAA publish an annual report listing there income and costs....if so I'd sure like to see it.

Linfield and SJU in 2009....win or lose....that would make my season.
