Thanks Pat...I sent him one.....  ;D

Pat Coleman

BTW, the school is spelled Ithaca, and since I'm sure you would jump all over someone who misspelled Linfield you might want to show the same respect to another school.

...did you ask why Ithaca was in? The 3rd Team from 1 conference??? When we didn't even get our league champ in who had a better DIII record? From one of the top 5 leagues in the country?

Not really I usually spell Linfiled ...like that because I can't type, then I have to correct it.   :)

Exactly what are we supposed to do, torture them? This isn't 24.

One of the better lines in recent memory...  A+     ;D :D

I don't get why it would be a travel consideration. One flight in the bracket whether Whitworth flies to Redlands or Redlands flies to St. John's.

Pat, Whitworth going to Redlands guarantees a second flight (in the next round), Redlands going to SJU sets up the likely hood of not needing any flights for that region the next round.

As you say, lets move on to the real games.

Pat Coleman

speedybigboy -- the NCAA has never cared one bit about flights in the second round. Why start now?

bluenote -- I asked why Whitworth was out and Eau Claire was in. If you remember how the selection process works that is the only question that matters, since the top candidate from each region is compared simultaneously.

.....seriously though, we need to respect the fact that d3football.com and the guys writing for it have better things to do than chase the dead-end that they will run into by trying to unveil the decision making process that resulted in the Rat snub.

So to tell you the selfish truth...at the end of the day I'd be a lot more pissed and probably wouldn't let it go until the playoffs were over if it was Linfield that got bent over...but...it wasn't, so I've moved on and next year I'll accept the fact that you need to win your conference and get the auto-bid to be guarenteed anything.  In the meantime, it really doesn't break my heart that Whitworth didn't get in.  I'm just sad we're going to have to hear all the "we lose in the playoffs because we beat eachother up" excuse that will be coming from UWEC when they drop one in the first round...AGAIN.  So even without Whitworth in the dance, who i would've been rooting against anyway, there is plenty to cheer for in the playoffs like a UWEC 1st round loss and a Redlands ass kicking handed out by the Johnnies!!!

I didn't know that.  Just pointing out that the setup has the appearance of being a money saving tactic.

I gotta go spend some time on the Playoff Pick'em.   ;D

I was under the impression that the 10 at large bids could come from any conference. And they would pick the top 10 based on some criteria (that nobody seems to know).

Linfield could be a Pool C team next year if they don't win the conference so we'd better not let them screw us over like they screwed Whitworth this year. That's a big concern we can't forget!

Blue,

Even if nobody else on here can admit it...there are politics involved in this process without any doubt in mind.  That said, the potential to get screwed will always be there if you don't win your conference and get the auto bid...I've resigned myself to that fact.  Therefore, Linfield just needs to get the auto-bid...if they don't, all bets are off, there is no fighting the machine that is the NCAA...especially when at the end of the day they really could care less about the D3 football tourney and who got screwed way out in Tinytown USA.  Whoever the donkey is that everybody is emailing is just placating you, so you go away...he doesn't care.

I don't think it's a matter flush and move on...Because as in the past, present and future it will happen again....My issue is that the selection was extremely poor based on faulty criteria and or people's judgement.  What I am saying is that there needs to be a criteria change and maybe even rule changes that allow border line schools to provide part of the funding for their participation.   I do not put any trust in the AQ...not until Menlo and L&C establish themselves in the football playing of our conference...until they do that AQ is very tenous....
