bluenote -- I asked why Whitworth was out and Eau Claire was in. If you remember how the selection process works that is the only question that matters, since the top candidate from each region is compared simultaneously.

I was under the impression that the 10 at large bids could come from any conference. And they would pick the top 10 based on some criteria (that nobody seems to know).

They can. But the mechanics of how they are picked is that one team is on the board from each region at a time. Read our predictions from Saturday night.

Blue,

Even if nobody else on here can admit it...there are politics involved in this process without any doubt in mind.  That said, the potential to get screwed will always be there if you don't win your conference and get the auto bid...I've resigned myself to that fact.  Therefore, Linfield just needs to get the auto-bid...if they don't, all bets are off, there is no fighting the machine that is the NCAA...especially when at the end of the day they really could care less about the D3 football tourney and who got screwed way out in Tinytown USA.  Whoever the donkey is that everybody is emailing is just placating you, so you go away...he doesn't care.

THat's "could NOT care less", ;D, sorry, one of my pet peeves.

good catch...I meant to put couldn't

Good question, impossible to answer, but I'll take a stab at it.

THis is all one man's opinion backed by limited research!

We, the NWC, doesn't even have ONE team good enough to be in the playoffs, much less TWO like the mighty MIAC.  ;)

Seriously, I believe our top teams would play good games against their top, historically that's the case.  We have two teams that are really struggling right now, L & C and Menlo, so our bottom end is not good.  On the other hand they have two Carleton and Hamline that are also not good, but Carleton nearly knocked of SJU this year.

Our 4th place team, Willamette lost an early season game to their 5th/6th place team, at Gustavus Adolphus.  On the other hand they have 9 teams and we have 7.

SO the two questions relevant to you are

1. IF Redlands played in the NWC how would they have finished this year? -  since you beat our undefeated (but not good enough for the playoffs) conference champ on the road I would surmise that you could have won the NWC.
2. If Redlands played in the MIAC, how would they have finished this year? - I'll let you know on Sunday! ;D

Most years I'd say a toss up, this year, I'd lean towards the MIAC.

Unfortunately, it's tough to argue this point...but keep in mind, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in while! ;D

I meant that they could have won the NWC but only if the beat the team that beat the team that beat them and that the the #4 team in the conference (with a losing recored) pulled an upset to knock of the team that beat them late at night on the last weekend of the season.

Oh wait.......... That's how they won the SCIAC.

I'm done for the night.

In tonight's local paper Joe Smith was quoted as saying that Whitman got snubbed. That sentiment seems to be universal.

Except in Wisconsin, I'm guessing.

I suppose you mean Whitworth....or else you're referring to a snubbing in the NCAA D3 Poetry Reading playoffs..... ;)

Here's what the whitworth snub says to me:

It restates the negativeness of the universe. The hideous lonely emptiness of existence. Nothingness. The predicament of man forced to live in a barren, godless eternity like a tiny flame flickering in an immense void with nothing but waste, horror and degradation, forming a useless bleak straitjacket in a black absurd cosmos.  :)

That reminds me of how I feel on the Saturday when the playoffs start and Linfield isn't in the playoffs.... :)

Geez man, you're bitter. You can't even root for Redlands to do well in the playoffs. The NWC & SCIAC are lumped together due to their proximity. The SCIAC doing well only further proves that the NWC is a great conference. Your blind squirrel comment is way off base, Redlands DOMINATED!!!!!! Whitworth. They were able to score on their vaunted defense and their offense was punched in the mouth all day. Give the Dawgs some damn respect!!!!

Go ahead and insert your beaten to death Redlands ducking Linfield comment here!

Well, good luck getting objective responses here or on their board. I think the bottom of both conferences are pretty weak. But even with the snub this year, the NWC has advanced four different teams to the D3 playoffs in the last eight years and two different NWC members have won national titles. The MIAC has advanced three different teams and won a title as well. Overall, I'd say they are very even conferences. The NWC might have a bit more balance, but (and I hate saying this) SJU has been able to handle our champ more often than not. I think Redlands will have their hands full.
