At one point you had a saying that covered that ...

....yes, and we've added a new one... "DON'T SNUB!"       ;)

You should stick to things you can control, like winning games.

That's true but it does help if committee members use what is called a brain when there is an analysis process involved in selecting teams.

It has taken over a week, the shock has past, the dissapointment is still there.  I have read/heard some interesting things since Whitworth's snubbery, but there really is nothing anyone can do to change it.

The worst thing:  The Pirate seniors who truly expected (like many others) that they were going to be playing last weekend.

The best thing:  As long as the conference stays where it is at, there will never again be a time (atleast in the near future) when a Conference Champion will not be going to the playoffs.

A few questions:  should Whitworth/any other D-III team ever schedule a game against a team that gives scholarships (Azusa), because there is no benefit to playing a team where a loss (like in this case) hurts you way more than a win can help you.  All I know is that if Whitworth schedules the Mexican School of the Blind instead of Azusa they go to the playoffs.

Heard an interesting story about the Redlands coach, before I allaborate was wondering if Coach Maynard and Coach Smith were on a committee together at some point this year (West Region Coach's or something along those lines)?

BTW:
I think it took Whitworth awhile to find its identity after losing Allan and Clark and realizing what it had in Anderson and Frosh DB Derek Stottlemyer (future 1st teamer for sure, but since they take 8 1st teamers at every position, I'd say my chances are high) which led them to putting in their Dime package that Whitworth used towards the end of the season.  I know the point is moot, but would have liked to see the BullDogs and Pirates really play again.

It was truly a pleasue watching those seniors on that defense the past two years absolutely dominate the NWC, it seems the staff has done a very solid job of reloading some kids in there who were able to contribute on that side of the ball as well.  To lose possibly the two most talented players in the league (Clark and Allan) and repeat as NWC Champs is one hell of an accomplishment.

Next year should be pretty interesting...we do know that A NWC team will be in the playoffs FOR SURE, which is atleast something to not have to worry about.

Question:  Is it bad a bad thing that my karma is creeping up to my # of post?   ;D

Is George Carlin the head coach for the OXY Tigers, becuase that seems to be what he does when he schedules non-conference opponents?

Linfield fans learned that lesson in 2001.  Welcome to the club.

Yet Linfield still plays Western Oregon and Southern Oregon, is it that difficult to make a schedule without playing these teams?

ummm...yes.  Linfield would love to play 9 D3 schools but we need to be able to find the takers and we're very lucky to have found a d3 non-conference game for the next two years...very lucky.  So we'll be playing WOU and SOU for at least next season and probably 2009.

We can only hope that Pacific is still trying to bring back football and help with our issue along with Willamette who has had to play WOU and SOU too.

I heard something interesting about Paris Hilton and Britney Spears....

Give us a break here. By all means, elaborate.

Pat Coleman

Yes, Joe Smith is on the West Region advisory committee, along with coaches from Bethel, Coe, UW-La Crosse, Grinnell and Occidental, with co-chairs Maynard and Central AD Al Dorenkamp, recently the national chair as well.

D O.C.,

That information is located on the on the NCAA.org web site in the championship handbook:  LOCATED HERE  Page 7 breaks down the committees.

From what I understand the Regional Advisory board makes their suggestions/rankings but of course the national board has the final say.

So have you or are you going to tell us who this d3 school is for the next two years?  Is it Chapman?
