I think I can elaborate for Pirate Pride - It appearantly was reported to John Tully by Joe Smith that Maynard had some interesting things to say about Whitworth during the regional committee call.  The most-reported remark was that UR would win 10 out of 10 between the two teams. ::)  The regional committee didn't buy what Maynard was selling and rated Whitworth 6th.  Unfortunately for the Pirates, he was one of the west region's reps on the national committee.

Is it Chapman?
If Chapman needs to be undefeated to get a Pool C, why would they pick Linfield?

I would guess it would be UMHB.

If true, I'd say that worked out rather well for Maynard. Much better to travel to Collegeville than host a team you've beaten.  :-\

I would like to see those final west region rankings just to know if UW-EC truly passed the Pirates there...or if it was a national committee 'override'.

That is awesome third-hand info. Oh wait ... it's third-hand scuttlebutt, not actually info.

Never implied it would hold up in court.  It's actually fourth hand because I heard it from a staff member who heard it from the Whitworth coaches...

But it is hard to imagine a situation that would motivate Smith to make up something like that for Tully?

Pineconefan,

Yeah that was it...Don't know why that would be made up or how it would appear out of nowhere.  Anyways, nice spelling by me on "allaborate."  Thank you Whitworth for the fine education, proud two time member of the academic all west region team somehow ;D

So...are Whitworth and Redlands lined up to play next year? That could be interesting.

The Redlands broadcasters said they were early in the season. Highly doubt Coach Maynard would say anything even remotely close to what was posted here. People can speculate all they want, but he never talked bad about a coach or program to us players in my four years. It's completely out of character for him to say something like that. I don't believe for a second that he did.

And before the flames fly just know that I believe that Whitworth got jobbed bigtime by the national commitee.

Maybe we could get Haskel to come up--The are a great resume builder

I see Bret Elliott is no longer on the Edmonton Eskimos roster.  Anybody know where he went from there? That has got to be frustrating for the guy.

That info about Maynard was reported by both coach Smith and Coach Johnson from Bethel...both are familiar with members of the Whitworth staff.  Whitworth finished the final West region rankings in the 6th posiition...UWEC was 8th.  But, nevermind all this, if Dr. Kaiser hasn't given anyone any answers by now, just realize that we'll never get 'em.

Ok, so Whitworth returns its offense minus Silva and has some reloading to do on defense (I think everyone will be surprised with the defense)...but with the success of the program as of late the Pirates should be able to pull a Linfield and reload with equally talented kids who are just waiting for these seniors to graduate.  IMO, both corners next year will be better than Ghilardi and should play better than Marshall did this season, Tully and Entel however will be very hard to replace.  What is the Linfield O gonna look like minus Scharer?  And who does the defense lose?  What about PLU...was this group of seniors the only reason they had a good season?  Will they be competitive again next year or drop off?  Since everyone else in the league has been chased off this board I think thats it for early, early, early outlooks for next year.

Safe travels, GHC, and everyone else, too.

Rat, we've got Boehme stepping into the QB position next year, and he looks good. He'll just be a junior.

(509) rat....may I suggest a holiday repent for the offensive rant after the 10-6 massacre. It has been stated by someone else your contributions were just that until the Saturday night garbage. Shallow as I am, I do not get past that post whenever I see your moniker.
