What is the Linfield O gonna look like minus Scharer?

Better...

Since everyone else in the league has been chased off this board...

You're still here, I think some people need to get thicker skin...

What is the Linfield O gonna look like minus Scharer?  And who does the defense lose?

I think Linfield's offense is going to be very solid.  We'll have our entire offensive line back (minus Kemper) along with Smedley at TE.  Running back wise we should be in good shape with a selection of Masters, Montalvo (med-redshirt), Lever (short yardage), and Lamson should be on the rise.  Like everyone else, I really like Boehme and think he could be the best QB in the NWC next season.  He has to prove it but I think he has the skill to go along with the brains.

The big question is replacing the WR corp.  We'll see how that develops in the spring.

Defense: Linfield will have the best Linebacking corp in the NWC and I don't think it's even close.  Tkachuk, Jackson, and Partlow are outstanding.  Defensive line will be very good again with getting both Olsen and Nishizaki back from medical redshirts to add to the returners .  Our spots to fill are in the backfield but our front 6/7 are going to be very good.

Linfield is going to have a big say in the conference's first auto bid next year.

I know that the Whitworth coaches really wanted Boehme, I remember following the all-state game his senior year.  Not always common for the 3A/4A state game MVP to go to D-III, so he obviously comes with some accolades, but you do have to get guys open for him to put up some stats (unless you get some transfers, this WR core could end up being one of the worst you've had in awhile).  With that being said, you've been pretty fortunate the past few years.  That kid is a great example of someone who would have really benefited from being able to redshirt.

Any chance that rule gets reversed any time soon, it is absolutely rediculous?

Just trying to change the subject to something else that we have no control over.

Cam Cat,
Didn't you hear the news, They are giving Elliott a 5th year medical redshirt exemption due to his broken wrist in 02.

Yeah we'll see how that shakes out...what I would love is to see is for Montalvo or Lamson or another RB to take control so we could move Masters back to the slot and find ways to get him the ball in space.  I wouldn't sleep on Paterson, Ellis, or Nelson at WR next season but I would like to see Linfield bring in a big body.

I'll be curious to see if Whitworth will have any play makers at WR next season.     It seemed that the Rats depended on Silva and Tully for big plays at that position and I didn't see anything waiting in the wings that would be a big play threat for the Rats at WR for 2008.

I too think the redshirt rule is a joke...but you're right pirate...no control over that. :-\

Not sure how good your WR's need to be if people put 8 in the box to try and stop him, I think having him will make our WR's better just from a scheme stand point.  We have some kids who have played significantly the last two years that haven't had a lot of balls thrown to them (Stockton/Hannon).  Good:  they know the game speed, very familiar with the sytem  Bad:  maybe balls haven't been thrown to them because they aren't open.  Don't sleep on Andy Largent, should be a good one for the next couple years.  When we get into our single back, 9 TE set you will see we have some depth their too :)

No doubt Anderson is good---but I think the Linfield Defense showed how to stop that style of offense this year.  Rats will need to balance things out more next season (e.g. more passing game) which should happen with a more experienced Kemp at QB---but like the Linfield offense---WR threats will need to emerge.  Can't wait to see how things develop.

By that you must mean not All-Americans.

Unlike our discussion of recruiting running backs to LINFIELD, I would guess receivers would jump at the chance to be a 'CAT.

    Holiday Tip!!!
Stay away from the Turkeys from China  ;D
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

In our game against you, Tully did what he does.  Got a lead and didn't risk turnovers.  He lined up in Double Tight-Double Wing, or just Double Tight and you put 9 guys in the box and continued to run (not effectively I mind you), said that once before.  When he spreads things out, he likes to mix up the run and pass game, you can't put 9 guys in the box when we run 4 WR's out there...well you could I guess, but then our WR's might look alittle better when they are running uncovered.

And yes, I did mean by them not being All-Americans...Any downgrade is a + for a Linfield opponent.

PP,

Let's not talk about the Rat turnover that "never happened" this past game.   ;)

Tully was conservitive and you're right that Whitworth didn't and wasn't going to run vs Linfield effectively.  I can't remember one game ever when Whitworth has run the ball well on a Linfield defense*.  Ahsing did have a couple of nice pick ups but Linfield bottled up that offense....again.

*I'm not talking about QB breaking down and scrambling for yards...I mean lining up your best RB and running downhill at a Linfield defense.

ADvantage Catdome just posted a very useful blog/video that you need to watch before tomorrow.  No need to thank me.

Holy crap, 11!

Stab him in the liver, stab, stab!

Now I'm going to have that last catchy little phrase, "Don't you eeeeever do thiiiiiis" running through my mind.

Maybe wives and girlfriends would want to check this guy out before they go shopping on Friday.
