That's a shame about the Old Oak, but something that the college knew was coming. I think it's cool that they have used the wood for awards in the past and hope to save what wood they can.

It's amazing that the senior bench appears undamaged.

I feel so lucky to have taken my trip last fall and gotten some really good pictures of the Old Oak and the senior bench!!  I thought that part of the campus was so beautiful!!!  Keep us posted on the plans for that area svp.

Since oaks are falling, I guess Menlo should just "phone it in" next year. ;)

That would probably be the easiest plan for them. They could save not only the humiliation, but the travel costs, too.

We'd miss their haka, however.

I believe there is a ncca rule about banning artificial noise makers during games. Seems like it was overlooked by the coaching staff/officials.

Only in the postseason. The NCAA doesn't have rules like this governing regular season games and leaves it up to the conferences.

That makes me curious as to whether it's a conference thing or what because I think I remember hearing something before every regular season game at the CatDome that says something like the NCAA prohibits any type of noisemakers, etc. So I'm thinking they say that just to legitify the policy? I'd sure like to bring my electric kazoo to the games!

Schools can also set policy if the conference declines, I should mention. However, the NCAA has no rule prohibiting such noisemakers at regular-season games.

Pat:
Thanks for information concerning the ncaa "noise rule", don't know what else to call it.
Making noise for your team is part of the game, but what happend at hsu when we played there was ridiculous.
I remember attending my son's high school games and the person behind me kept ringing a cow bell! DUDE!
Those types of intrusions can ruin a game for the rest of the fans in attendance.

it's good to hear from you again Olinemom.

R&P,

I hear you on the cowbells. There was a cowbell family in our area a few years ago, and that was miserable, on nearly every play.  We were so glad for the playoffs, when we knew they wouldn't be able to use the damn things. They'd try, but would eventually be told to shut up. We always felt sorry for the people in front of them during the regular season games. They gave new meaning to the word "obnoxious."

Wasn't the Westering family was it?  :D
Frosty's wife and daughters have been doing the cowbell thing for years.

Thanks for the assist, 11. The gif you found is perfect. Here's a 'group shot' as well:
