It was a while back. I'm sure someone with a better memory or the stats can tell you. It definitely made the news at the time. The kid was embarrassed afterwards, and said he was frustrated at losing and his emotions got the better of him.

Coco,

Of course Catdomealumni.com has the video of this play!  1989's sideline surprise

The video is slightly wrong in the information.  It was a starting Pacific LB that came off the sideline to make the hit.  I've actually been in contact with him and I'm going to try to line up an interview for our blog.

nice video 11,

As a kid I had a book with strange football stories (wrong way run, etc.) and an episode like that was in it.  Couldn't remember what schools.  Thought maybe your story was the same one but it would have happened in the 60's or earlier.
It was in the 1954 Cotton Bowl between Rice and Alabama.

Great interview, 11. That's encouraging.

In regards to L&C:
Yes, I have a contact there. I don't know a ton of details - and some things that I do know, I shouldn't share. But I can share a few things. They have a new head coach, AD, and President since things were hitting bottom in terms of numbers (for most sports, really). Recruiting budgets were very low and have nearly doubled for each sport. I think football's budget saw even more of an increase. They still battle a bit with the admissions folks who have a hard time seeing value in anything besides getting the highest SAT-scoring class possible.

Last years' recruiting class was decent sized and very productive on the field. But the NWC (besides L&C and Menlo) is pretty solid, so the young guys took their lumps a little bit. But with another year of two, L&C should have their numbers up and be able to nab a win here and there. I'm not going to predict a Whitworth-style turn around, but maybe a UPS kind of thing. (Hopefully without all the totally unearned cockiness displayed up in North Tacoma.) I don't think money is really the issue at L&C, which might also explain why they were a bit better during the NAIA years (compared to say Whitworth).

I always hate to follow children and dogs....

Lewis and Clark had best watch out for a Title IX zealot ( for you johns, that is a federal law where for any penny spent on a man's sport, an equal amount has to be spent on women's sports, and here's the kicker THERE"S NO WOMEN'S FOOTBALL YET!!)

Wonderful Knight/Lute HIStory sharing but the key there was you went on to the Championship game that season!!!!

That was an outstanding interview, WC11.
I sincerely hope they can come up with the funds to get their program going.

I haven't bothered to look it up, but didn't you say that Albertson had changed their name back to College of Idaho? Why was that? Did the Albertson family take back their money or did the school decide they didn't want to be named after a grocery store or what?

Great interview 11. Always nice to see people building a program. Any addition will strengthin the DIII programs on the west coast.

As for L&C. Last year I went to the Occidental game. Got to speak with the AD a little bit. He had spent time in the the Nor Cal. He was very excited about everything that was going on at L&C and said he had allot of backing to get the program turned around. I think L&C will get better over time.

Just for the exposure I'd vote for the Keck Wing of Athletic Underwriting to help in scheduling home-home games with

Alfred

Union

Wesley

Washington and Lee

Widener

Seems any of the Wisconsin schools would be tougher AND an in-region game though...

No doubt in my mind that W&L (ODAC) is one school which could definitely afford the $$ to make the trip out to McMinnville.   Then you could thump them and I would be very, very happy. ;D ;D

Thanks again for all you do in keeping us informed of whats going on with the Boxers. Didn't you post somewhere that play between Trinity and Milsaps?  I think I saw the post where they received the Pontiac play of the year. Where can I find it.

Thanks

I think a flag was thrown against the 'cats, Coach Langsdorff went running onto the field pointing to the Boxers sidelines as did just about everyone else . The refs huddled up and went to the Pacific player and then to their coach. Wasn't it on Monday night football halftime show? After veiwing it on the local news the national affiliate picked it up.

Some people probably want them thumped for choosing Hillary in their poll this week.
