I guess I'm strange, but Seaman was the first thing I though of when I saw 11's post and the new logo. OK, I've read the journals, visited Forst Clatsop several times and have traveled most of the Corps of Discovery's route from the Rockies to the Pacific.

No, you're not strange. Some of us just have a Beavis and Butthead maturity level at times (regarding the name). I actually think the connection to the Corps of Discovery companion is a pretty cool idea. I heard some talk about an actual Newfie possibly roaming the sidelines; that'd be unique.

It's just that most people will require at least some amount of clarification* before a dog and L&C make sense together. I'd think that very few others will pick up on the reference as quickly as you did.

*But I guess that's no different from a Lute, EMAL, or the Catdome - eh?

Hey Gang!  Just checking in after a bit of a hiatus from posting (still been lurking though).  Seems like this off season is dragging........slow.....even without having much time to be bored.   Like the Pioneer's new logo--hopefully they can produce a new outcome to their games.  Be nice to see them beat a SCIAC team this year at least.  O.K.  checking out.....
Go Cats!

All the talk about the new logo compelled me to post this from the MIAC board. :P

This just in from FOXNews.com ...

QuoteStudy: Masturbation May Prevent Prostate Cancer

Men who frequently masturbate appear to have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer, Australian researchers reported.

Researchers from the Cancer Council of Victoria found that men who masturbated more than five times each week were one-third less likely to develop the cancer.

The study surveyed 1,000 men who developed prostate cancer and 1,250 who did not, and all were between the ages of 20 and 50, according to a report on Monday on the gay and lesbian news site PlanetOut.

Researchers told the BBC last week that the prostate produces one of the fluids involved in ejaculation and that frequent masturbation appears to flush out carcinogens.

Sexual intercourse may not have the same effect because it increases the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease, which could raise the risk of cancer, the Web site reported.

The results of my last PSA test was 0. I knew all of my hard work would finally pay off.

So Lewis and Clark just rolled out a new logo and it's a.........dog.

Meet Pio

I like their choice. I have a children's book, written in journal form, about the Lewis and Clark expedition from their dog's point of view. It's an enjoyable way for students to read about historical events.

More mascots from Fox Sports.

1. Colorado - Ralphie
Some mascots are cute, some mascots are funny, and some symbols get the crowd roaring. Colorado's Ralphie the Buffalo is the most intimidating and the one that inspires the most awe from fans and foes alike.

2. Georgia - UGA
Georgia fans will certainly dispute UGA's number two ranking to any mascot in any sport anywhere, but it gets beaten out here simply because of the presentation of Ralphie, the Colorado Buffalo. UGA is an English bulldog (although the first UGA was a goat) and is certainly the most beloved and well-known mascot in college football, past UGAs have flowers laid on their graves before every home game.

3. Texas - Bevo
From the nickname to the Hook 'em Horns hand gesture, no symbol is more associated with a team than Bevo the longhorn steer is with Texas.

4. Auburn - Tiger the eagle
Auburn's nickname is the Tigers, but the battle cry is "War Eagle" as a majestic eagle soars onto the field before each home game. To make things even more confusing, the actual eagle that's used is War Eagle VI, but its name is Tiger.

*Fixed  (thanks Dee)

Well since the Pio's are going to have a new mascot can we start posting up guesses what their new football motto will be for 2008.  I'll throw out my first guess:

2008 L&C football "Here we come?"

Sabretooth Tiger

I like the new L&C logo except I think that the "C" kind of disappears within the graphic, especially compared to the "L."

I think adopting the Newfie mascot and naming it Pio works pretty well.

No self-respecting mascot is complete without a jaunty sailor cap...

Of course, it could have been worse...

OxyBob

I know I'm giving the Pio's a hard time but being a big dog person myself I do have to give L&C a nod of approval.  They really haven't had a logo you could identify with in a log time so we'll see if Seaman sticks*.

*did I just type that?

The Turnaround at Seaside, Oregon, is designed as the official end of the Lewis and Clark Trail. In 1990, a bronze statue of Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and  Seaman,  was installed facing the ocean at the west end of Broadway at the Turnaround on the center of the Prom. The monument commemorates the 18 month, 4,000 journey from Saint Louis to the Oregon Coast ( by sculptor  Stanley Wanlass).

One of the nice things about traveling to Linfield to watch our son play was driving to the coast on Sunday after Saturday's game.
If you are new to the Wildcat family, take advantage of being in Oregon and visit as many places as you are able to. The vineyards, the rivers, and especially the Oregon Coast.

And yet Spirit Mountain Casino is the biggest tourist draw in Oregon. Not Haystack Rock, Mult. Falls, Crater Lake, or Timberline Lodge. Nope, Spirit Mountain...crazy.  :(

Reminds me of Ben Stiller's ear in Something About Mary. Funny, yes, but not the most realistic of scenarios.

Can you imagine that, D-train? The casino now beats out Multnomah Falls as the #1 attraction in the state. Crazy is right.

A few other places we recommend besides the Gorge are Mt. Hood (the loop is a good day trip) and the Bend/Sunriver area. It's lots different from the valley.

WC11 is on fire today.

According to the Lewis and Clarks press release the new mascots name is Pio.

"On Tuesday evening, April 22, 2008, the Lewis & Clark Physical Education and Athletics unveiled the new look of Pioneer Athletics. The new athletics logo, featuring a Newfoundland dog named Pio, was officially rolled out at the annual Student-Athlete Recognition ceremony."

All the banter over the name reminds me of Band Camp.  :D

Tuxguy

Hi Guys!!!!!!

My first post in over 4 months ( after a face lift of sorts) comes because my
good friends Mr. and Mrs. Coco brought me a gift, a get well gift I thought????
After getting home, I took some time to read the card and open up the gift............ I just got back home from the emergence room. The  trauma the gift caused me was to much at this point  ;D....... And I'm now back at OHSU!! ;) ;) It's O.K. I'm Home :D

A gift that has never been used, passed down 3 times is so much more than I could have imagined. Thank You so much!!

My question is coco.....would it be to much if I keep it as a dart board?

This is the off season....
What did coco give me as a gift?

It was nice to see you today!!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Wildcat'64

Tux Guy,

Welcome Back....you have been conspicuous by your absence...no one to keep us in line!  Hope all is well.
