I wonder how the 2008 'CATS will stack up against Division II Western Oregon.
The game comes so late in the season compared to the rest of the 21st Century (4 games early - after the SCIAC started ducking us). Even though it is reported games like that do not count in the playoff picture....... I am curious.

For those of you waiting for the 2008 season, you might be interested in the NEW modifications to the operation of both the PLAY CLOCK, and the GAME CLOCK.  If I can post the URL here (courtesy of "Super T"), it should be interesting, especially in the early games.

Good luck following the chanrs.

I'm not sure how many "at large" (Pool B) playoff births there are this year, so the main goal would be to win the NWC for the auto bid. That seems like the most logical path for advancement. I just hope we don't come up with one of those crazy 3 way ties.....

wildcatter23...that was an interesting video about the game and play clock. I'm glad I don't have to remember all that! It will be interesting to see how it affects the flow of the game.

Pat Coleman

At-large is Pool C -- Linfield won't be in competition for a Pool B bid now that the NWC has an automatic bid.

Thank-you.

Bluenote and I are glad to finally be in that 'C' position.

Those three way ties have tripped us up before Pool C so we have to wonder.

Thanks D O.C. for the link to that blog.  That is great!  The more Wildcat info and stories the better.

I don't have much to report on right now but I'm looking forward to seeing this team jump into the fire vs an explosive HSU and an improved SOU.  We have no gimmies in our non-conference (as usual).

More like RESURRECT from the dead GHC...

I can't remember the last time the Kitties made the playoffs...

Can you arrange a playoff showdown this Fall?  11 told me I'd be his featured guest of the week on Catdomealumni.com if we can square off in November/December...

If I remember correctly, the Johnnies weren't playing in December last year, either...  :-*

So basically the top 25 is a crapshoot after the first 5-7 teams. This is gonna be a fun season with an auto berth on the line.

Like how easy it was for Puget Sound to schedule Whitewater....at HOME!, yet we're playing the same non-DIII teams as usual.  It almost comes across as laziness for whoever makes the schedule by making the same phone calls every year.  The teams up in Washington have been able to fill out DIII schedules by NOT including SCIAC schools so it's hard to take the excuse that no one will schedule us except for WOU and SOU

UPS and Whitewater agreed to that game after the Linfield schedule was set.  Just be thankful we have 7 D3 games because Linfield was within days of finalizing a game with Azusa before HSU stepped up again for a 2-year deal.

I don't know what else I can say besides the program works very hard to schedule games with D3 schools and Linfield can't help it if teams in the western states either have their schedules set or will not play us.

.....would be nice to take a roady to the Midwest for a Sept game.

Can't wait for the CatDome Alumni t-shirts......

Just a follow-up thought on the new play clock use of both 40 second and 25 second settings: Linfield's new scoreboard has the ability to program both times, with separate buttons to bring up either as the case warrants.

I think some of the schools with older equipment (and only one setting) will be having a problem with this new rule.  It will be interesting to see if the equipment manufacturers put on a big push to sell new boards, or if someone can come up with a quick fix to modify the older boards to handle this.

I just wonder if the Rules Committee had surveyed the schools to know how many would have problems implementing this drastic change because of scoreboard equipment using only one setting for the play clock!

Should be something else to watch this year, especially early in the season.

Addendum for those who don't know: I have been the football play clock operator for Linfield football since it became mandatory for Linfield's playoff games, as well as basketball timer/scoreboard operator since WAY BACK!  (Some say before mud was invented.)

My question is why not schedule Azusa even after we got HSU?  I'd love for the Cats to play 10 games (D3 or not) like most of the rest of the D3 world.

I'm guessing that budget would be the answer they would give.  That's probably a $25,000-$30,000 decision.

I suppose that makes sense but it would be nice for us and the team to have another game.

I couldn't agree more.....it would help with recruiting also. Most D1 schools now have 12 games.
